Lots to do before September

186

After two significant departures in the form of Aaron Mooy and Jota, Celtic’s incoming transfers rose to four yesterday with confirmation of five-year deals for Koreans Kwon Hyeok-kyu (22) and Yang Hyun-jun (21).  Marco Tilio (21) and Odin Thiago Holm (20) arrived earlier this month.  German-born Polish defender Maik Nawrocki (22) is in town and will hopefully be confirmed soon.

That’s two nailed-on starters out the door and soon-to-be five players whom none of us can vouch for in.  Anyone outside of Celtic who tells you we are either stronger or weaker than last season is betraying their secret desires.  Those involved in the transfer decision making process will have at least a modicum of doubt.  Most of us just trust the process and hope.

The most I’ll say is that we are in good shape for next month’s home games against Ross County and St Johnstone and the trip to Aberdeen.  September brings three away games and our first Champions League group stage match.  We have a lot of work to do between now and then, not necessarily in the transfer market.  All of the new arrivals have a significant amount of settling into Celtic to get through between now and then.

Cyrill Dessers- CF- Cremonese- £5m- 28

Sam Lammers- CF- Atalanta- £3.5m- 26

I think that’s DR prices, seem to remember Phil saying one of them, assume Lammers, was £1.5m

  2. Been banging on about ticket exchange for years now. There’s a model in use elsewhere – Spurs, Arsenal – which we were supposed to be adapting but Zilch. Last year we played 2 friendlies to a full/sold out house of about 20,000 – both on th ST book.

Within minutes of the general sale notice today I went on the site looking for two tickets to take my 11 year old grandson. The odd single ticket in the Lisbon Lion Upper and a few other single ticket scattered around the ground. Ok if I was on my own, but nae use if I want to bring the next generation.

As BIG JIMMY would say…. JUST DAE IT, CELTIC!

  3. According to Sky Sports, Feyenoord and them have agreed terms with Brazilian striker Danilo over a five-year deal that will see him move to Glasgow for £5m plus add-ons.Weekly salary of 39k.

Just received an email from Celtic advising me to check my season card against details listed.

Ahead of coming along to your first match of the season, please check your Season Ticket card to ensure that the Client Reference and unique Card UTID Number printed on the card match those at the top of this email to ensure that you are using the correct, active card to enter the stadium.

The unique Card UTID Number is the seven-digit number printed at the bottom-right of your card, opposite your seat details.

If the details on your Season Ticket card do not match those at the top of this email, please contact the Ticket Office for assistance as soon as you can by emailing tickets@celticfc.co.uk.

Please do not wait until matchday to resolve any issues to avoid any delays getting into the stadium.

That’s a comfort to know all is in order.

Anybody that believes SMSM Rainjurz transfer fees really isn’t paying attention.

  7. Tom, I wonder why they issued new cards this season.

    Updated turnstile technologies????

  8. Looks like both us and Sevco have made, Schrödinger’s signings. Schrodingers signing is a thought experiment that illustrates a paradox of quantum superposition in the SPFL. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical signing may be considered simultaneously both great and a dead loss, while it is unobserved in the close season.

The interpretation implies that, after a while, the signing is simultaneously great and rubbish. Yet, when o the season starts, one sees the signing as either great or rubbish, not both great and rubbish. This poses the question of when exactly quantum Daily Record superposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

Tom, I wonder why they issued new cards this season.

    ….

Pretty sure I got the same email last year , not sure what it’s about but don’t believe it’s new cards

  10. By what measurement are cantwell and raskin consideed successful?

    They wontheit team fruck all

  11. Just had the same email as Tom and like last year my unique card Id on the email has an extra leading zero , pretty sure when I checked with the ticket office last year this didn’t matter

Just adds to that split second of stress when you pop your card into turnstile machine thingy , as you know that just once it will not work and could it be today ?

Agree re rangers new signings. The only one I would sign is the one they have not yet signed. The Ecuadorean lad from LA.

  13. EKbhoy,

I got the E mail today.

A new gray colour card arrived unexpectedly a few weeks ago. Not had a chance to compare it with the original card.

Must check it out, there is obviously some sort of discrepancy been noted.

Regarding ticket exchange. I’m not so sure, I know it works elsewhere but I feel ( rightly or wrongly) that a Celtic ST has a more emotional attachment compared to some clubs.

Family and friends get mine when I can’t make it. I can’t really see me making money out of non attendance.

Personally, it just wouldn’t feel right, however I do see the merits that some posters mention.

    HH.

It’s not a new card. It’s the same card I’ve had for last 2 seasons.

I think the check is aimed at those ST holders who have received a new card, eg relocation, new age concession etc. Just to make sure the right card is used at the turnstiles.

  15. So in 2020/22 in Holland

Our GG scored 26 goals in 30 games at relegated Venlo

Their Denilo scored 17 goals in 33 games for CL qualifying Feyenoord.

Last year this Denilo scored 10 goals.

    Since January

We have signed a South Korean national team striker plus 2 other SK players.

We have signed the Japanese POTY

A top rated pole and a Norwegian POTY.

    A Canadian World Cup player.

An Aussie who is less tried.

We have lost 4 players in that time.

They have lost Davis, Tillman, McGregor, Kent, Morelos, Arfield and will lose another one or two in order to recoup cash.

The only player they are considering that I would have at Celtic is the LA Ecuador lad.

  18. Regarding ticket exchange. I’m not so sure, I know it works elsewhere but I feel ( rightly or wrongly) that a Celtic ST has a more emotional attachment compared to some clubs.

    —————-

on a matchday you can witness lots of cards held up for onward sale, particularly from supporters busses, why shouldnt they get some return.

when i am invited on someone elses spare i make sure and make a contribution to them, or the weans, or to a charity of choice.

when i was unwell for a full season, i gave the ticket to the guy in the next seat, his grown up bhoy got to enjoy the seat, no cost, at the end of the season he gave me an envelope with what they could afford, it got passed onto the famine memorial fund, and we all felt good, a virtuous circle if you like.

it felt the right celtic thing to do, and in the ethos of the club.

we posted up sold out signs last season, but official attendnaces are always below capacity, does my head in.

a kpi for the ticket office should be to have every seat occupied by someone on matchday,

    make it happen.

also season tickets i am sure i read are at a record high of 55,400

  19. Celtic have kept the core of a treble winning squad from last season and have added 1 top prospects from Norway, 1 from Australia from 2 from south Korea and 1 from Poland very likely to follow. All those players have been scouted extensively by a recruitment team that has shown itself very capable of finding very good players. I would suggest we are in a good place at the moment.

Now if we can add a quality leftback, left winger, box to box midfielďer and gk I will be very happy with our business

  20. FFS,

Well they certainly didn’t reduce the rate, that much I do know 🤣 The price class is definitely Adult, although many would contest that is apt.

Will definitely need to check it out now. Better idea, I’m away for the Ross Country game I’ll let a guinea pig ( sorry, family member ) suss it out.

Non football post but one about a singer who has touched my soul.

Chiwoniso Maraire was USA born and Zimbabwean raised. She died 10 years ago today not long after her husband and not long before one of her daughters took her own life.

None of the greast authors could have written better about beauty and tragedy better than Chiwoniso’s short life.

I first heard her singing this duet with Kris Kristefferson, a song about oppression, disappearance and murder of those who opposed the regime.

  24. Just to add every player we have signed this season appears to have good pace and a more physicality. I would suggest that is planned rather than some lucky coincidence.

Tolio is a young guy making his way in the game from his native Australia. Mooy and rogic also played in the a league before celtic and they done OK. Also a good argument, but not the negative one

`Ahead of coming along to your first match of the season, please check your Season Ticket card to ensure that the Client Reference and unique Card UTID Number printed on the card`

I cannot find any reference to UTID on my ST.

    Any help?

  27. AT,

Definitely still a sprightly Tim. Our holiday neighbours can testify to that.

Had a great chorus of the Celtic Symphony last night We all really enjoyed it, well apart from Mrs GP who was acting like the gringe

Need to clock her passport later to double check her age 🤣

I like all our summer signings so far. Great profiles in good emerging markets. I’ve been banging the drum for an upping of our game in the scouting space for a long time. Rodgers seems on board, and they all seem to have some power and pace about them.

Let’s go get those 4 in the next category up where we can really kick on in Europe.
