Lots to do before September

186

After two significant departures in the form of Aaron Mooy and Jota, Celtic’s incoming transfers rose to four yesterday with confirmation of five-year deals for Koreans Kwon Hyeok-kyu (22) and Yang Hyun-jun (21).  Marco Tilio (21) and Odin Thiago Holm (20) arrived earlier this month.  German-born Polish defender Maik Nawrocki (22) is in town and will hopefully be confirmed soon.

That’s two nailed-on starters out the door and soon-to-be five players whom none of us can vouch for in.  Anyone outside of Celtic who tells you we are either stronger or weaker than last season is betraying their secret desires.  Those involved in the transfer decision making process will have at least a modicum of doubt.  Most of us just trust the process and hope.

The most I’ll say is that we are in good shape for next month’s home games against Ross County and St Johnstone and the trip to Aberdeen.  September brings three away games and our first Champions League group stage match.  We have a lot of work to do between now and then, not necessarily in the transfer market.  All of the new arrivals have a significant amount of settling into Celtic to get through between now and then.

Thanks, the match report from the club webpage doesn’t detail last night’s skipper. Very young team, the two centre backs are biggish at least. I’m redirected to twitter login when I’ve tried the official twitter links.

Strangely though, I’ve been able to read Maestro’s update this morning about the latest signing, Nawrocki.

  6. Twitter abuzz with the Croatian keeper deal being back on. Would be great if it happens.

Also great to see another Polish player joining. Always been a good market for us.

Thanks very much for that information. My card has a SIX digit number in that part of my card. It starts `034`.

No night shift last night ?

    Yip. Missed Sionnagh’s offerings too.

Back in the day, the nightshift had a few contributors and there was always AT LEAST one song that caught my eye.

Mary Wallopers’ God Bless England posted recently – I always have a chuckle listening to that song.

    Maik confirmed?

    Good.

Hopefully that means genuine 3 for 2 competition at CB and takes some of the heavy lifting away from Cameron and Carl who, as a pairing, have had it far too long.

If we can confirm the fourth man in that position I’ll be happy.

    Turkeybhoy – stay safe !

I read that as a criticism of the manner in which opinions were /are offered ie as though they were facts.

  10. Uncle Jimmy

Thanks for your feedback. It is appreciated and I can see your point taking that post in isolation.

To try to answer the points you make . :

I am not sure if anyone on here who is critical of our signings has accountability. I doubt it though. Why would anyone who is accountable be personally critical of themselves on a blog ?

My knowledge is better than others ?

I am not sure where simply highlighting ‘folk who are not accountable for signings are being ridiculously critical of players they have not seen’ is suggesting I have better knowledge ?

The point is that just as with Larson and Ange and Cal Mac and Mooy and Wim and many others, folk will be negative and destructive from a position of almost total ignorance often based on shit they read in a tabloid, or indeed their own personal bias against those who are responsible.

Surely that’s not what opinions should be based on ? Surely real evidence and proper assessment would be more useful in shaping opinion.

When we sign a player I always look on YouTube at their “profile”

A video usually done by their agent to make the player look good

But even with my cynical view on these shop window videos Nowrocki looks like a proper player

He seems to do the lot defend tackle he is quick and he scores goals

    I need to calm myself

Delighted with the window so far, Centre Back challenger gives us strength in depth with CCV and Starfelt.

The squad is a lot more interesting than the side that finished the season ( at IBrokes ) and we have money to spend in the next five weeks to further strengthen.

  15. ST TAMS @ 10:50 AM,

Read this on click bait but think but looks right…

Young Celtic defender, Dane Murray has taken to Instagram today to tell of his recent surgery success. Murray returned from injury back in April after a 12-month layoff.

Murray picked up a serious injury back in April 2022 and made his return to action against Rangers in a 3-1 away win at Ibrox in the Lowland League on the 3rd of April this year. He only made one more appearance before the season ended in the 2-1 win over East Stirling.

However, it seems that Murray still needed to have surgery and this afternoon he posted on Instagram to tell us that the operation was a success and that he is now on the road to recovery from what looks like knee surgery.

    Hail Hail

  16. St Tams

I only have limited knowledge on Dane.

As far as I can see he was thrown into some pre-season games and a Champions League qualifier and seems to have unduly impressed some people on the basis of that limited viewing.

Prior to that, he and his age group missed a whole season of competition due to Covid. Subsequent to that Dane has appeared in one Challenge Cup tie and 2 Lowland League fixtures for the B team ( I would assume injury) and he hasn’t appeared at all this season in the first two B team fixtures. He is contracted to June 2024 but he has missed two whole development years so I would not be expecting him to be challenging for the first team until he has established himself as a B team player.

I hope the lad has better luck in the future.
