Lots to do before September

186

After two significant departures in the form of Aaron Mooy and Jota, Celtic’s incoming transfers rose to four yesterday with confirmation of five-year deals for Koreans Kwon Hyeok-kyu (22) and Yang Hyun-jun (21).  Marco Tilio (21) and Odin Thiago Holm (20) arrived earlier this month.  German-born Polish defender Maik Nawrocki (22) is in town and will hopefully be confirmed soon.

That’s two nailed-on starters out the door and soon-to-be five players whom none of us can vouch for in.  Anyone outside of Celtic who tells you we are either stronger or weaker than last season is betraying their secret desires.  Those involved in the transfer decision making process will have at least a modicum of doubt.  Most of us just trust the process and hope.

The most I’ll say is that we are in good shape for next month’s home games against Ross County and St Johnstone and the trip to Aberdeen.  September brings three away games and our first Champions League group stage match.  We have a lot of work to do between now and then, not necessarily in the transfer market.  All of the new arrivals have a significant amount of settling into Celtic to get through between now and then.

“My thoughts are what this window is showing us, is for the past two seasons the heavy lifting in the transfer windows was done by Ange”

    It’s certainly looking that way.

  3. Really funny reading back, all the experts on the new signings, who they have no clue about. They had no clue about,Hatate,Kyogo,Jota,CCV,Maeda,AJ,Thats long forgotten, but keep banging that drum..Already wanting players in for positions we have signed players for.Obviously ,not expensive enough, unheard of,must be some reason for it.Disrespect for the recruitment team ?No idea.

The other main topic,is getting rid of players.Lists made up,as if its that easy.”Get the deadwood out”.Problem is,not a big queue for deadwood,on Celtic wages.Another drum to keep banging.

Going by their great success in the last few windows,I am content to leave it to the guys who’s job it is to get it right.

    Transfer windows.A curse.

    Re transfer windows

I think you are correct on this matter.

It won’t stop people with no accountability spouting their view as if it were expert of course.

  5. Re Ange and transfer heavy lifting

So we have folk here suggesting Ange identified Jota and CCV and O Riley and JJ and GG and A Johnston and Abada.

To be fair he did Re Mooy and will have had some say in Kyogo Reo and Maeda plus Iwata. But what manager does not look to environment he knows well when recruiting.

To suggest the others were his prior knowledge or understanding is total crap.

Some folk make shit up as they go along just to suit their bitter wee anti agendas.

    That is for sure.

  6. At this moment in time we still have a weaker squad than we did when the season ended.

A lot needs to be done if we’re to improve on last year’s CL results.

  7. BURNLEY78 @ 10:40 PM,

No one said that, why do you put lies in people’s mouth, what is up with you?

My point on the heavy lifting was how smooth and successful the transfer windows were under Ange.

He identified many of our successful players, those he didn’t identify like Alister Johnston he ran the rule over.

It was his choice to buy CCV and Jota after their loan period.

He wasn’t bowled over by many of the players that were identified by others, he was happy to sell JJ and GG, and didn’t buy Abildgaard or Jenz and let them go.

He didn’t fancy Liam Shaw, Jamed McCarthy, Osaze Urhoghide, Alexandro Bernabei etc

So it’s a very reasonable observation and you folk ITK are the ones with the agendas aren’t you?

  8. Well, just back from an evening at Palmerston with one utterly thrilled and buzzing grandson who now is the proud owner of a shirt with Efe Ambrose’s autograph on it. The big man couldn’t have been kinder as he took the time to sign shirts for all 5 or 6 boys – all Celtic fans – who called him over after the game…. the only one to do so. Always played with a smile – and still does. Thank you Efe.

    BIG OAFS vs WEE WAIFS.

Over on SevcoQuickNews they’re scoffing about how we’ve recently bought a consignment of short-arses (Kwon excepted) whereas they’ve largely gone for larger specimens (which is their custom and wont).

I dont write-off any players that’ve managed to do a few seasons in Serie A; it’s a decent, physical level. I know nothing about Korean football to say whether that level’s comparable to Serie A or SPFL.

Methodology wise, this is what the huns prefer – big lumps of boys who rummel them up, even if only to partial success versus us.

It should make for decent box office again this year.

I can’t see Carl leaving us just cos his squeeze is off to Portugal; his wages must dwarf hers and, anyway, Bolingoli has the inside word on some cheap flight deals to the Med when he needs to hookup with Jacynta.

  16. I think the time to judge the success or otherwise of this Window is months away.

The Window normally closes on 1st September, presumably it’s the same this year, there is plenty of time for buying and selling but as ever we won’t know for sure what we have until we see them in Competitive Action,

The Huns have tooled up but the same applies to them, Last Year their signing of Ramsey was heralded as the game changer, well it was OK but not the way they envisaged.

It is a nervous time but we need to stay calm,

I saw a clip of the Bernabei goal in Japan for the first time last night. Rocco Vata’s stretch in height between his fleeting cameos in 2022 and now is noteworthy. He’ll be eyeball to eyeball with Matt O’Reilly soon, from all appearances, so maybe Vata on the wing isn’t going to be his future place.

I don’t have access to the club’s twitter feed or the B team’s twitter match updates this season so far. I’d appreciate a note of who took captain’s armband last night, just for my own interest.

  18. vinniethedog on

Only time will tell if the Huns big bad boys will be better than our signings, it’s certainly a type of philosophy that has been successful in the past in our league. I just think the plook got annoyed when his team were out muscled at Aberdeen The Mibs will also have a part to play in his new look team and no doubt will be right up for it.

As for us, many speaking as if the incomings are all done. I think we’ll get another 3 !!

  19. A Champions league exit, early league points dropped and us beating them at the Bigotdome over the next six weeks, are all real possibilities to their newly formed team.

    Watch the mood music then.

Trust the process. Take out the knowledge of Japan and it’s the same. Scouts identify key young talent on a global scale and the manager signs it off.

  22. I see that Reider and the Croatian keeper,Liverandonions, are both back on the market.Maybe only temporary, but a window to buy has appeared. No idea if we have serious intentions of taking us a few steps forward in CL,or indeed, spending a fair chunk of the dosh available, but these two would make some statement.

Have we got the Cohones.I will leave it in the hands of our excellent recruitment team.We will know soon enough.
