Loving an ugly win

258

I love an ugly win, especially at this time of the season.  Steven Gerrard said Celtic are “relentless”, it is ugly wins, when you can scarcely string two passes together away to the team third top of the table, that convinces the manager of another team you are uncatchable.

Despite some generous reports, yesterday’s win at Pittodrie was not achieved against the better team, Aberdeen scored with their only genuine chance of the game, at no other time were Celtic in danger of conceding.  It is a feature of this Celtic team that even when it is not performing well, you know they will defend solidly and Fraser Forster is a formidable last line.

Winning nine games since the break, seven of them away from home, is astonishing consistency.  You almost feel sorry for the others.  Almost.

  1. Went out for a run this evening, found it very tough in that wind. Can only imagine how tough it was to try and play football on that pitch yesterday under those conditions. An almightily huge 3 points.

  2. Just watched the highlights. Even knowing the score it’s difficult to not to let out a cheer when we score.

    And Ajer’s goal….!!!

What a run and what a classy finish. Unbelievable!

    VAR.

It takes the final decision away from the hun in black on the field and makes it extremely difficult for the hun refs in the studio to deny the bleeding obvious .

What`s not to support that ?

What`s not to celebrate that ?

If you ever want your musical horizons expanded you could do a lot worse than listen to one of his mixes.

He had impeccable taste, in my ears

My biggest beef with VAR is the way offside is interpreted . It used to be if you were level with the defender you were onside . Now you can be level or even slightly behind but if a hand or even a big toe is past the defender you are off side . I’ve seen a few good goals chopped off because of this. Other than that , some decisions seem to take far too long to reach which spoils the flow of the game .

For decades of years we have been complaining about the SFA refereeing mafia. Justifiably so .

Right now we have the possibility of taking decisions out of the hands of the hun in black on the field .

    It`s not perfect but , by God , it`s an improvement .

A hand can never be offside.

A toe and any part of the body , chest , head , thigh which can legitimately be used to strike the ball may be called offside.

The point is that the VAR officials would be and are accountable.

The hun on the field is not .

He can , however , apologise after the damage has been done.

Fat lot of use that is .

We`re still out of the Cup .

  8. From what I have seen, the way VAR is interpreted in the EPL is causing a disassociation between the fans and the game.

For the paying public there is a lack of Information and the stoppages are draining emotion and muting celebration.

It maybe ok for watching a match on the TV, but it certainly not suitable for a live audience .

It will need to be modified or it will kill football as a spectator sport.

    Imo of course.

  9. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

I thought VAR was only used for ambiguous events, never realised that every goal would be subject to scrutiny, I suppose once we get to 6 or 6 it will become a bit tedious for some, me personally when we get to 4 or 5 I usually don’t want the game to end 😁

Anything that destabilses their malign influence or acts as a bulwark that they be modernised and straightened oooot , is a good thing.

  13. Being presently located in London I mix with English football fans. They hate VAR. Hate how many tiny, ambiguous details are now used to controversially disallow decent goals. Hate that the joy of the ball hitting the net has gone, replaced by the nervous wait to see if it’ll be reviewed.

I’m a big fan of how the equivalent systems have added to rugby, cricket and tennis. But football seems to have rather screwed up the implementation.

So VAR for Scotland? Where three anonymous, but undoubtedly hun, judges decided Ryan Christie brutally assaulted Morelos? We’d lose double the penalties, be awarded half as many and the betting would be WHEN Broonie would get a red, not IF.

I saw an interesting stat in yesterday’s papers. Apparently Copenhagen have set a new European record. They have gone 26 Euro games without conceding more than one goal per game. Previous record holders were AC Milan. So, as noted above, they don’t score many but neither do the concede many.

    =======================

They’ve conceded 23 in 21 domestic games, nothing to write home about.

Do they set up differently in Europe? Possibly.

Either way we shouldnt have too many problems but in football you just never know.

I’m living out west in Kew (Total spam valley existence!!!) and work in the centre of town. The things we do for wummin, eh!

I’m home every few weekends for family and fitba. London’s a very fine city. But I’d choose Glasgow every time!

  16. I haven’t read Caldwell’s comments from yesterday, if he is of the opinion that Sevco have a stronger starting 11 than us then I’m beginning to understand why his managerial career hasn’t taken off.

  17. An Dun

Your post was the first I have heard anything of this.Even so, I would be surprised if Caldwell actuall said that. Not because I thing Caldwell is an uber Tim or anything but just because I don`t think ANYONE in football would say that.

  18. VAR is ruining the spontaneity of celebrations when a goal is scored, it was bad enough when the ” Buzz bomd” scored you automatically looked at the linesman for the flag.

Someone suggested giving the team captain 3 calls limiting the number imo this could be the way forward and we would not have so much time twiddling thumbs.

Could end up like AFL. Show an advert while we’re waiting on decisions. OOPS don’t give the Huns an idea for increasing revenue.

Watch how many red shirts attacked the “invisible Man” before he laid off to big Kris for the winning goal

How far back is the build up’ to a goal – what if it comes from a corner that shouldn’t have been a corner, for example?
