Loving an ugly win

258

I love an ugly win, especially at this time of the season.  Steven Gerrard said Celtic are “relentless”, it is ugly wins, when you can scarcely string two passes together away to the team third top of the table, that convinces the manager of another team you are uncatchable.

Despite some generous reports, yesterday’s win at Pittodrie was not achieved against the better team, Aberdeen scored with their only genuine chance of the game, at no other time were Celtic in danger of conceding.  It is a feature of this Celtic team that even when it is not performing well, you know they will defend solidly and Fraser Forster is a formidable last line.

Winning nine games since the break, seven of them away from home, is astonishing consistency.  You almost feel sorry for the others.  Almost.

  1. I like Michael Stewart too but it really is none of our business.

Indeed banner support from celtic fans would equate to career suicide for him in scotland.

Perhaps he will make a living between sky and bt.

He is definately good enough. It was great to see Big Sutton on the big boy match of the day on bbc1 the other day with linekar.

Another heading for the top of the pundit world.

Was driving up from Preston last week and was listening to Talk Sport.

  6. I would be all for any demo at Parkhead in support of Michael Stewart. Imo, the BBC are obviously making up rules and policy on the hoof, as they seem to have no problem employing a sizable number of those who benefited from EBTs and even bankrupts.

I used to be annoyed at the huge differential between what was allocated to Match of the Day alone and the BBC Scottish sports department. Now, I hope it disappears down the nearest drain, along with the reptiles that work there. Not one seems to have supported Michael Stewart. Worse than pathetic.

    ‘Editorial guidelines’??

    What would they be, then?

    Only Hun propaganda allowed?

  8. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

    Very good point, PCS.

They’re happy to employ people who screwed the taxpayer at the, er, taxpayers expense, but say something negative about Jim Traynor?

Can’t have that, it falls below acceptable standards.

    Talk about misguided priorities.

” Indeed banner support from celtic fans would equate to career suicide for him in scotland.”

I had thought of that and it is a sad comment on the prevailing attitude in Scotland that I agree with you.

The other guys are also correct though, in their comments re tax cheats being employed.

  10. I have just watched the first five minutes of Chelsea v Man Utd. No one is allowed a second on the ball ! The modern game is so quick, it looks like eleven-a-side in a gym !

  11. credit to st johnston.

At last a club is looking to the past to survive in the future.

Big crowds against us and our ugly sister used to keep the wee clubs going.

These days we are faced week in week out of the site of empty stands yet celtic supporters not being able to get a ticket.

    Sheer lunacy.

Seemingly an ongoing desperate need from the talking heads to discredit VAR.

You have to wonder why .

    VAR in Scotland soon .

    Please.

  14. Hello again all you young rebels.

From what will be an expected stormy few days in Melbourne, with

Lots of rain expected, hopefully it will extinguish the last of those

    horrendous fires still burning.

Don’t know the answer to the strange weather patterns this year what

with record breaking 40 odd degs in spring and cold spells in summer

but if the human race are even responsible for any part of it then it’s

our duty to address the situation for our childrens future, imo of course.

Anyways it’s time this aul yin got oot o bed, got nets to mend down at

our soccer club before the heavens open.

Couldn’y be the ragers comin could it?

    Naw thats just too funny.

The same talking heads who had earlier criticised VAR , accepted that VAR got it right in regard to the most recent ” goal ” .

Without VAR the ” non goal ” would have stood.

Make up your minds , lads .

  16. Great work again JOBO.

Watched the game again this morn. and i reckon i could

change a couple of my top 3 choices.

Shows how difficult it is, but very entertaining.

RESULTS FROM GAME #36 – ABERDEEN 1 CELTIC 2 (McGREGOR, AJER)

What a very important victory that was yesterday. Despite getting an early lead I felt that we were fortunate to go in level at half time. And as the 2nd half wore on there weren’t too many signs that we’d get the 3 points. But Neil’s changes brought the reward we were all looking for, removing any glimmer of hope for the mob that were kicking off an hour or so after we finished.

And a difficult one to judge the best performing players although 2 of our defenders received most of your plaudits.

Yet again, a great response (the next game may well see me receiving my 2,000th email since starting this!) and a big thank you to the 64 who registered their opinions. Nice, too that someone gave one of their votes to Neil Lennon!
