MacLennan safe but look for a face-saver

300

To be fair to the media hacks, the close season can be a bit dry for news, so it is no great surprise to see them continue to a nefarious campaign on inappropriateness where it was established in clear legal terms that inappropriateness did not exist.

I anticipate they will soon be flabbergasted at Steven Gerrard’s general magnificence and move on.  Just like the SPFL already have.  Murdoch MacLennan, a newspaperman, will have to suck it up until then.

Newco and their acolytes now know there is no issue with MacLennan, but they are looking for a face-saver elsewhere.  Keep your eyes open for this.

I’ve lobbied Celtic to give them the same as Hearts, Sheep etc at CP. And take nothing for Poundland. Move away from Old Firmism. Comical Dave had given us an opportunity, I hope we take the higher ground.

but, the con job isn’t across the clyde … . both sets of fans are played by the money men …. fans are set up to hate each other because it keeps the rich guys rich…

honestly, do you think most Sevconians even know what consubstantiation is about?

there isn’t much of a rivalry on the pitch, so the powers that be will have to create one in the stands ….

will we see an Orange top for the zombies this year? and a celtic jersey with a Celtic cross on it for us?

No, taking the high ground means treat them like the other Clubs. Not like Rangers (7000).

Those seats are sold out. There is a waiting list.

  15. BMCUW @ 7:44 PM,

Yes, I-Tox, interesting the vice President to SFA President Peat, who socialised at Ibrox by jumping wildly up when Rangers scored and alsi SFA President “Heavily conflicted” – Alan McRea who went on to be President in his own right – was not conflicted when he said we need a “good, strong Rangers”. The oxymoron is only the beginning of what’s wrong with that phrase.

I read your comments this morning… that article by Jackson is atrocious. Yet you expect that from someone whose facts on Scottish Football are off the radar.

I’m still concerned about the sleeker Graham Spiers – here’s his attitude to a possible relationship between Messers Desmond & O’Brien and Mr MacLennan…

The question here, given these overlapping business roles of MacLennan, Desmond and O’Brien, is whether this raises a conflict of interest for MacLennan. Does his INM role bring him into contact with either Desmond or O’Brien? Do these men have business or social relationships? Is there a natural empathy between MacLennan and Desmond, via INM, which a club like Rangers might feel is unhealthy in terms of a strictly impartial running of Scottish football?

He feels Mr MacLennan has traditionally being weighed as more Celtic and smelled something suspicious. Of course Mr Spiers’ suspicious nature might develop from the way he operates – an insight into G Spiers and the other succulent lamb journalists ways…

    https://www.channel4.com/news/by/alex-thomson/blogs/succulent-lamb-menu-questions

There duly appeared copy praising the “succulent lamb” that was eaten – the “fine red” that was drunk.

The food and drink were taken – so was this man’s dream of Rangers – all without much question in some quarters.

I make and imply no criticism at all of the reporters present – what intrigues as an outsider is how many people years later around Glasgow happily talk about “succulent lamb” journalism.

Let Graham explain – he was actually there, after all: “Succulent lamb journalism means a culture – and I hold my hand up here too – a culture of sycophantic, unquestioning, puff journalism that went on around Rangers generally and Sir David Murray particularly.”

Of course you’ll see it to some degree across sport, across football. But it was, many Glasgow journalists say, more damaging here.

“Look,” says Graham Spiers, “you are making a pact with the devil if you like. You get thrown the best scraps. You get something for the back page or whatever. But there’s a tacit deal. You don’t dig too deep. You don’t cause any trouble.”

Well I think we can all see where Graham Spiers mind set comes from… straight from the horses mouth, so to speak. Is this why Murdoch MacLennan failed the Graham Spiers’ sniff test?

When Graham has business and social relationships it’s based on tacit deals and pacts with the devil.

Could I suggest most of us and the rest of humanity are quite capable of having social relationships and business relationships that are above board, open and cordial.

Another insight into Graham Spiers comes from the Twitter reply you posted this morning…

“C Ogilivie is a very decent guy who got dragged into a mess at RFC. It can happen to good people. I’ve got no RFC or CFC dog in this dispute, though I know some of you guys pour over all this.

Now where to start with this… the guy obviously has no self awareness.

Firstly Campbell Ogilvie as a VERY decent guy? We could look at the stuff Auldheid posted about him earlier and there is plenty more that suggests a disrepute charge would be approprate.

But let’s take something we know, that isn’t denied. When St R C Ogilvie went to Hearts he was a part owner of Rangers. To avoid a conflict of interest he should have sold his shares, he didn’t, he transferred them to his wife. A small thing but shows how this man operates and is way beyond anything that is proven against Mr MacLennan.

“…I’ve got no RFC or CFC dog in this dispute, though I know some of you guys pour over all this.

Now then what has this got to do with Celtic!?! This dispute is between Sevco Rangers and the SPFL. Celtic have not disputed anything. Why bring us into this Mr Spiers if you have no “dog” why drag us?

If you have no “dog”, why did you headline your article “King right to raise concerns about SPFL post”.

Something else Mr Spiers – do you know what your job is?

Let me tell you… it’s to pour over this!!

Is that what Bernstein and Woodward said to deepthroat… enuff of the Watergate stuff already you guys just want to pour all over this…

If you did your job properly and poured over the detail you would not be producing nonsense articles for the London Times – embarrassing yourself and them.

I don’t see a link to Sevco with the new white shirt. Many clubs across the world design replica shirts to reflect their identity, history and culture.

I do agree to some extent that Celtic exploit the rivalry for money. The social media platforms and ticket pricing confirm that. You only need to look at the Scottish Cup semi final, tickets sold out in hours. The demand is there whether we like it or not. Celtic are not going to ignore that.
