Malky, Craig, redundancies

1217

I got it wrong on Malky MacKay.  In August I wrote, “Malky’s unforgivable sin is not racism, homophobia or anti-Semitism, these matters are often overlooked as ‘banter’, after all.  He’ll not get another job because he blew millions on players who were useless to Cardiff.  That’s the only kind of offence football really tales notice of.”

Then up stepped Dave Whelan, a man who is widely respected in the sports retail and football, largely for not being Mike Ashley, but who has watched his club slip from the Premier League and now sit in a relegation spot in the Championship.

Football is harsh enough without clubs creating their own distractions.  Wigan and Malky are unlikely to prosper.

So Craig Whyte faces up to four weeks in jail if/when he is arrested.  You have to wonder what his police interviews will reveal.  Craig doesn’t strike me as someone to take a fall for anyone.

Redundancies are sometimes necessary for a company losing money and without the resources to pay bills, but Newco Rangers cutting the payroll by 10, none of them from the well paid football department, is pointless tokenism.  Savings made will keep the lights on for only a few days more, so why do it?

I have some sympathy for their new management.  They need to make significant cuts into football costs, but those costs are contracted to the end of the season, or beyond, these cuts are perhaps a gesture towards what’s ahead.

Management have a problem, how do they meet commitments to creditors and protect shareholder value?  No bank has ever extended credit to this club, and I suspect HMRC have them on a short leash.  There will be some trade creditors, but they are likely to be of the face painter variety.  By far the biggest creditor, and therefore most influential after an insolvency event, is Mike Ashley.  He would be in a position to appoint an administrator, and to approve any settlement.

Dave King continues to play an important role, encouraging fans not to support or spend with the club.  I fully endorse his views.

King still thinks he is playing poker but his hand has been called and we all know he’s all out of aces.  His rantings are not part of a coherent plan.  His calls could precipitate the end, but he has no way of transforming this into a new dawn.

Remember to keep an eye on the long-term fundamentals, you cannot operate a large football club with the size of Newco’s infrastructure without regular Champions League income.  Nothing that has happened in the last three years has changed this.

I’m only relaying his conversation mate. I ain’t siding with political parties, simply highlighting the ridiculous nature of this Act.

Ps I don’t see the same level of anti Catholicism that Neganon claims is still prevalent though.

    Really? She said that.

That says more about Roseanna Cunnigham’s inability to think outside of what she’s been told to say than anything else.

Do you in all honesty see any court convicting somebody in the circumstances you’ve described? If so, at what stage of appeal do you think it would fail, because it’s against laws on religious freedom.

I know it’s been done because it’s an easy thing to latch on to to point out the ridiculousness of the law but it’s not the blessing that would attract the attention of the law, it’s the aggressiveness.

Shocking. I have a similar stance. Only time I cross myself in public is when a funeral cortege passes or there is a minutes silence.

I had a full blown argument with a Jambo at work after a minutes silence for 11/11 rememberance day a few years ago. He said he was offended by my making the sign of the cross.

The same clown was out shouting obscenities to the pop when he passed nearby my office a few years ago and I was standing right behind him. He turned to head back to work with a snear on his face which was instantly wiped off it when he spotted me and he tried to be my pal the rest of the day out of fear I would shop him. He said that he didn;t agree with the non use of condoms in Africa and the homosexual stance of the church. I have drabk at many work events with this clown and he is a homophobic racist. The guy is a bigot. A sly bigot who will try and be your pal but ultimately he is a hater of all things Catholic and Irish. This guy is a university graduate who makes good money and a former public school boy. His parents are both loaded and he makes very good money. He is not a man though. He is an imbicile and I take great pride in making him squirm when our paths cross at work events with his thoughts on the situation in Africa or his gay rights stance. His freinds at work and other colleagues look bemused as I push the agenda and watch him squirm and squirm because I know what he is and so do his work mates now. The guy has lost all credibility from a lot of people because he is a bigot and there was no need to call him out for it in a crass way like he did with me. Ultimately he was wrong to shout me out for crossing myself and people know that. I let him fall on his own sword through his own blind bitterness and stupidity. He departed the company last year and not holding with tradition he had no night out. His reputation was in tatters. I have met him once since and his face still flushes with a redness of embarrassment that a wee Tim with a limited education out smarted him and managed to lead him to destroy his own reputation through his bitterness of Catholics, Irishness and Celtic. Mrs LB said I should have just punhced his lights out after the sign of the cross incident but then she is a Hibee.

  11. How many fans have been arrested for giving the opposition fans the finger or 2 fingers, or various other “get it right up you” type gestures?

How many thousands of times are such gestures made during the average game?

Yet, bless yourself and it’s offensive!?

I am convinced the OB act played a significant role in Scots voting against giving that group of politicians more power.

The guy is not worth it. When I do meet him on a bus or the street he can;t wait to get away. I love watching this guy squirm. Such a smarmy bassa. So many people did not like him but he held a lot of sway and was respected. Once he was gone word went round and a lot of people shed some light on him and his racism could have got him the sack alone.

In theory it’s been offensive since the law was introduced so it’s not a ‘now’ thing. Nobody to the best of anybody’s knowledge has been arrested under the Act for blessing.

It’s a theoretical proposition that has never, and is unlikely to take place. Unless, I would suggest somebody goes out of their way to get pulled for it, in which case they probably deserve what they get.
