Manager and team must show stoic unity

1148

You can train to be a football player for years, hone your skills and work on your fitness, but there are situations you can never prepare for until you are in the spotlight.  Yesterday Mark Wilson had to field questions about his team-mates’ performance and his manager’s position, after another abject performance which drew criticisms from Neil Lennon towards the players.

Mark gave a textbook response to the BBC, “I don’t like slagging my team-mates off but we have to do better.

“Football is a result-driven game but we don’t want that [Neil Lennon sacked].  We are firmly behind the manager and we love working with him and the coaching staff.”

We should be in no doubt that harsh words are being spoken in the dressing room and team spirit must be awful, but the outside world need to see stoic unity.

  1. Oh well another R&R in Bonnie Scotland flies in.

I hope Lenny can turn it around and the other teams in the SPL can take points off the other mob.

This could be a very interesting January for our Board.

4 in a row should not be allowed to happen, over to you DD & PL…..Let’s see how much winning trophies means to you.

And also lets see how the other mob deal with 2 or 3 injuries to their squad over the next few weeks.

Will now have to rely on the good Torontony to keep me upto date with CQN

Keep up the good work, everyone! HH.

  2. Snake Plissken

That may be so but he used to enjoy a beer as much as the next guy. Did he give it up? I don’t know, but I never saw him the worse for it. Now big McQueen, now that is another story altogether.

  3. Philbhoy – It’s just the beginning! – …….or Celtic significant dates in their ndb’s.

You can just imagine the brains trust on Follow Follow trying to think of good hundercover identities.

Generic Permarager 1: “So whit ur feenyuns called, brother bears?”

Generic Permarager 2: “Maist o’ thum ur called Micky, Declan or Kevin. FACT!”

Generic Permarager 1: “Thanking you, brother bear. Timmy won’t know what hit him. Hurrr hurr hurr. Radio silence. WATP!”

  4. Guys,

as I said in my first line, I never wrote that, I got it in an e-mail. The one that Pablo once sent me is much better and if I can dig it out I’ll post it too.

Stange but I still can’t bring myself to delete his old e-mails. He was a Tim to the very core.

    Thanks for the info.

Lets go with a timmy sounding name that doubles as a derogatory term for Irish, add to that Celtic’s nickname and then a date that is important to the Celtic cause:

    PaddyTim1967

    That’ll never be suspected.

  7. Does dallasnomore so hate our manager because his namesake was outed as a cheat by the legitimate inquiries by our manager? No Celtic supporter would make the libellous (and seriously wrong) allegations about our manager. (And certainly not try to fob us off with the most infantile “proof”.) dallasnomore strikes me as a rabid Lennon hating hun (God forgive me, I promised myself I wouldn’t use that word) who is trying to make our manager’s life that bit more difficult.

  8. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

I was musing on our predicament today as usual..

Given PL is so focussed on the ‘business performance’ why doesn’t he make the link between on field failure and impact on business?

Does he not feel accountable for on field failure in any way?

Does he ever reflect on the Euro monies lost to Celtic and gained by the Huns?

From a purely business perspective things are bad.. There’ll be no open top bus for years that he can wave his balance sheet from if he’s not careful.. Unless we get conditioned to drop our expectations on that front as well.

He’ll be holding Hun balance sheet in one hand and our balance sheet in the other shouting.’ look ours isn’t as bad..’

  9. fritzsong,

if only their fans knew that on more than one occasion their team travelled on chartered Aer Lingus planes. No damage was done.

Jesus mate you are like the McCarthy communist witch hunt. That was a delusional campaign also. Some other chap mickbhoy getting it today. You seem to accuse so many of being Rangers supporters because they challenge current crisis. Dare say you will remind me you think I am a Gers supporter again which is so much tosh. Your one man crusade is hilarious but seriously unhelpful in so many ways. Respond to comments by counter debate much more mature that playground like ‘hun’ outing :-)

  11. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

It will almost be 25 year ago to the day I wrote to Jim’ll Fix It and asked If he would kill of the huns for me.

He wrote back saying “over my dead body!”

  12. stephenpollock – Jesus mate you are like the McCarthy communist witch hunt. That was a delusional campaign also

Actually, it later turned out that Joe McCarthy was right all along.

So following that historical lesson, mickbhoy1888 is definitely a hun. (thumbsup)

Stick to writing about Davie Cooper.

  14. I believe we have the nucleus of a good young squad. What I believe we do NOT have however is a real experienced leader ON the park.

On top of that we have an inexperienced backroom staff having to learn on the job.

Both of those situations could and should have been rectified by a proactive Board. That is another thing we don’t have.

The up side is that it will not take that huge an adjustment to get us on the right road. My fear is that the Board have not grasped this and will continue to sit on their hands.

Should we start going in the right direction from here on in, and the Hunz get a 10-point penalty which results in us being Champions, I for one will feel no guilt whatsoever.

How much guilt have THEY exhibited in winning cups and trophies with a squad of players funded and paid out of our taxes?

  15. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

After our uninspired win over Aberdeen, I posted that Lenny was under too much pressure as every game was ‘must win’ or his job would be questioned. In fairness Lenny more or less set winning the SPL as the make or break barometer at the beginning of the season. In my opinion (shared by many others) we are very unlikely to win the SPL now and if anything the gap is widening month on month.

So I feel a longer term replacement should be being identified. Personally I’d keep Lenny till next summer. If he performs a miracle he proves many wrong and can stake his claim. If we are 2nd again ( or worse!) the new guy should be ready to roll in.

Lenny should be asked to identify departures for January. No purchases.

New guy should be working on permanent Goalie CB and striker behind the scenes.

I love Lenny- he is a genuine Celtic Legend but I love Celtic more.

Lots of good Celtic people feel the same.

  17. Honest mistake 1202 – that is hilarious. Write about Davie Cooper :-). Actually I had nothing against the man. I feared him playing against us he was deadly with penalties i recall. I remember watching him as Bankie fan wishing we signed him before Rangers. I never checked the link you sent from rangers media but whatever the article it was not me. Maybe another stephenpollock or you cheekily ghostwriting for me:-) ?.? Why you on there anyway? Lastly I don’t hide my name I’m easily researchable. Enjoy Sherlock :-)

Ah could gie gie ye at least A few examples of why Ah am Criticizing Lenny,in the m anner in which Ah am..

But..Here is the Latest example of Lenny.. showing Me.. mebbe no You.. But ..

    Me..

That He Has A BIG Mooth!

It is being reported in Today’s Newsie..

That Lenny has Threatened tae Name Names ..concerning whom he believes is

“Swinging the Leg”.and in doing so.. is Letting the side doon..

If he has actually said that.. and Ah do not actually know if he did.. as the Newsies ,Being the Newsies… can be maist Unreliable

Howevahhhhh.. Be that as it may..

If he has actually said that.

Then it Proves, behond a Shadow of a doot.. that Ah am Right..

    In Saying

    “Lenny, has a Big,Mooth.”

Whit Lenny should be daeing is..

    Quietly going aboot his Business..

And let his ACTIONS speak. Louder than His Woids..

His Next Team Selection . Should tell the world.

Whom he believes is Responisble for shirking their Duties.. and in doin so.. are dragging the Guid Name of Celtic, in the Mud.

Frankly, Lenny has bin conducting himsel, in his Joab.. as being. wan of the Gang.

And.. that kinda stuff, wull woik for a wee while.. but… Fitba’ Players are Like Children..they hiv never Held a Proper Joab in their Lives..so

They, wull behave like Kiddies, if ye let them.. and Gradually, they wull tak over the Classroom and start throwing Paper Airyplanes.. and Pitting Tacks in the Manager’s Seat..

If he disane Keep them in Check.. and Start tae Act like a Leader ,instead of

    ONE O THE LADS.

    A Manager must be Ruthless..

If a Player disnae show that spark of Enthusiasm that awe guid Player’s Wull show.

    Then..

The Manager must Tak .. IMMEDIATE ACTION..

EEther by.. Subbing the Player.. .. Right there and then… even after . Ten Minutes of Play.. if he notices that the Player shirked a Fifty Fifty.. FOR INSTANCE..

A Strong Manager.. a Manager who is FEARED. wid . Yank that Guy Aff so Quick. that his Pants wid Burst intae Flames!!

And ..THAT’S the PANTS OF THE MANAGER!!

    or

Drapping that Player fur the Next TWO GAMES.. Nae maitter Who is the culprit!

Like the Famous Line in the Movie…

the Manager should speak tae the Player under Review.. like this..

“It Seems that whit we hiv here.. is a Breakdoon in Communications.

    .

    So..

Whit we hiv tae dae FIRST…

IS GET YER HEID RIGHT, Son.. so whit Ah am goinna dae..

Wull Hoit Me Mair that iit Hoits YOU!”

    Anyway.

Ah suppose by noo, My Readers are Beginning tae Get whit Ah intimating.. so’
