Maribor slight favourites

2143

Celtic will face Maribor from Slovenia in the Champions League play-off round.  Maribor, of course, played a critical part in the death of Rangers, when they eliminated Ally MsCoist’s team from Europe a few months after Craig Whyte took over from Sir David Murray.  Having heard the 6-1 aggregate result against Legia, they are already celebrating the draw.

Maribor gave Wigan two hard games in last season’s Europa League, winning their home tie and causing the FA Cup holders more trouble than expected in England.  They progressed to the knock out round before going out 4-3 on aggregate to Sevilla – a feat Celtic would not have been capable of. Right now, they should be slight favourites.

If you missed it, today’s earlier article on Lady Luck, HMRC and money is here.

Join the Celtic Graves Society, Fergus McCann and many more at Kilsyth Cemetery on Saturday, 18 August, to commemorate the final resting place of the great Jimmy Quinn. Full details below or at Celtic Graves.

  2. FRANK RYANS WHISKEY,

Since he became the highest priced goalkeeper in Britain. Not an easy act to do,considering at the time the bollocking Scots goalkeepers were getting.

    He is a class act.

But carry on with your hopes that he gets injured again.FFS,supposed to be Celtic fans.

  3. the long wait is over on

Enjoying the Rod Stewart stuff but disappointed that there was no recognition of the talent of Ronnie Lane in the early stuff. What a songwriter that guy was.

  4. Enjoying the Goalie posts, always wondered why big FF could hit Stevie W in the warm up but rarely a team mate when the whistle blew..

On Boruc, what a man, didn’t give a damn, was lucky enough to get a tour of Lennoxtown, each player had a DVD of the previous week’s game at their locker, Artur’s pile was 8 high…a real maverick….

  5. prestonpans bhoys dam justice for the 5 on

yentod (bore) with Rod Stewart (hero).

very interesting, brilliant last 3 mins with ex celts playing football on his essex pitch and his 80 year old brother refereeing.

    well done that bhoy.

and his kids were all magic as well

    might be on bbc4+1

  7. What I like about Rod is that he doesn’t give a stuff that he might alienate about 80% of the Scottish population.

What a great Celtic fan he is.

Darren bent, Jordan Rhodes, troy deeney. 3 proven goalscorers. Surely one of them is within our budget. Brede hangeland big experienced centre half. Darren fletcher on loan from Man U. The holy goalie to replace Forster. Think outside the usual young project Pish we have been doin and try get some experienced pros to help that squad.

    —————

We can’t afford any of those players, it’s hardly thinking outside the box, we just know they won’t take wage cuts.

And just a side, Fletcher has looked excellent on the Man U tour so might be going no where. Good on him, deserves some good luck.

  10. Forster best keeper I’ve seen as well, but happy to take the £10mill.

Gordon is good enough replacement though I doubt he’ll last a few months before injury.

  11. The Bottom Line is ............. on

10 mill for Herman ? Saints must be on drugs ! Have they seen him play ? They’ve certainly never seen him come for a cross. No one has.

Worst keeper I’ve ever seen at Parkhead.

    Hi folks

Haven’t posted for years and probably won’t post again.

Have continued to folow the articles, but not the comments, so not certain who is still posting from the old guard.

    Why post now?

—guess what i remember you posting them years ago

pull up a chair and post again.

that was a good return, close to my own toughts.

  13. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

The transfer will further weaken an already impoverished squad. Watched Aberdeen last night, they may just give us a run for our money. They had passion, energy and dig, all the things we miss. Last season they outfought Celtic in the cup-tie.

Wee McInnes is no mug either and he is building a reasonable team up there.

  14. mcdowellcelt- Watford knocked back 10mil for Deeney, Rhodes, you can start about 12 mil, Bent is on 70k a week……

You haven’t posted for years. No comment about all of the highs and lows of the past few years but you feel driven to demand the sacking of a guy who has been in the job for 2 months.

    Please go back to lurking.

Great shot stopper but won’t come for cross balls and for such a big unit, doesn’t command his box; so 10M is a good deal.

  17. Goodbye Big Fraz, got us 10 mill, go to London with your epentrise fiancé, with our best,

Totally agree, Thompson was a great player for Celtic, no question. He had a swagger that’s been missed and it was a shame the circumstances in which he left his coaching job. Does he get a bung for tipping NFL off, about FF?

Can’t remember when Mulgrew last hit a free kick, seems to have lost his confidence as any free kick, on the right should be for his left peg. I think the stick he’s getting on here is OTT, – picking him back up on a Bawsman was another bit of good business.

I was 6 and starstruck to see a man I knew play for Celtic. :))

  21. RABERTO67,

Yes I am angry.I am sick and tired on here of people coming on and telling us we cannot afford to buy decent players.I have watched the boy May.He is as good as any of our former Scottish buys were,eg,Wallace,mc Clair,,Deans,Walker etc.How will we ever know if we dont give these boys a chance.I am not saying for the CL,but in the SPL he could flourish with us,then who knows. If not the sell him to Sheffield.Whats to lose?.

No other keepers needed…Gordon has been brought in because good teams need three good keepers…..who is our new keeper

Or…have we been lied to ..again. !!!!

  23. Ok ghuys, back on again after some very important ferming things to do. My take, fwiw,, is, Lawell is putting all monies aside to assure next seasons CL qualification guaranteed. With £30m minimum as payment for just qualifying for the group stages, a no brainer for any PLC, accountant or anyone with profit in mind. Hey ho. :-)))

Weefra HH praying for Wee Oscar.

  24. The next edition of CQN Magazine is co-incidentally our goalkeeper edition and we talk to the Lisbon Lions about Celtic’s greatest ever goalie.
