Market for sportwashing could wane quickly

175

The long season comes to an end this week when the final international games, most of which are firmly in the meaningless category, or the Nations League, as Uefa prefer to call them.  Those in the Scotland squad, like Callum McGregor, have to make their way home from Armenia tonight.  There will hopefully be time for the captain to rest mind and limbs before he is recalled for preseason training.

It is a small mercy that we don’t have European qualifiers this summer, our Scotland players missing out on the World Cup is also welcome, although our Japanese contingent will be affected.

2022 could be the year Fifa is finally forced to pull back.  Confirmation of the corruption behind the decision to award the World Cup to Qatar did nothing to prevent the tournament going ahead as planned.  Instead, the world will watch the efforts of a tiny state hosting the world’s greatest sporting event (it is) in stadiums built and destined for obsolescence before the year is out.

The is also a strange calculus underway in the sportwashing sector.  Whatever the Saudi motivation for LIV Golf, it surely was not to put the human rights record of the kingdom front and centre of news broadcasts.  ‘You are blatantly trying to get us to ignore the thing we are all going to talk about.”

Google Trends show the word “Khashoggi” has rocketed since golfers gathered for the LIV tournament.  The market for sportwashing may be set to turn.

  1. Why Clarke didn’t take off Callum, never mind rest him, I can only surmise he reckons Callum is the 1 player in midfield that is essential to the team.

Let’s hope he now gets a proper rest. Thank Ghod, for Celtic’s sake, we are not going to Qatar. (I don’t really follow Scotland but I like them do well and, most importantly, none of the Celtic players gets injured.)

Don’t know where the ref fir the last World Cup play Off was from ( VAR officials were Qatari ), but he was dreadful.

I think we all know why Callum wasn’t named captain tonight.

    We weren’t paranoid enough.

Their placing of stories,is fun to watch,’you can see that look from Keith as tho ‘it’s ran by David’ as we found out during court proceedings..

They do not write freely, always kackin it and it easier to go down the 2 cheeks of same arse routine.

He says the American press and public are not happy at all with the LIV tour.

On radio5 live last night there was a breakdown of the eye-watering sums and changes to the game hoping to be introduced. The sums dwarfed the current tour,I am not a golfer but get the impression with that level investment will alter golf in future.

  7. When a world class Hungary side defeated England 6:3 at Wembley in 1954 (and followed it up with a 7:1 win in Budapest) it forced a major re-think of English football and their position in the world of football.

They have now lost 4:0 to a much less stellar Magyar side- what will they do?

  8. SFTB I was sitting in the company of an ‘Englandur’ watching the Euros Final last year. He was gutted at losing to Italy on pens but was utterly convinced that this was just a prelude to winning the Big One.

I chanced a wee suggestion that maybe getting to the finals of the Euros, with all the home draws, might be an outlier and that things just might go mammaries north sometime soon.

I must admit I didn’t see this particular level of collapse, mind you.😊

  9. Why were England playing at Molineux? Surely (we) as in the Union, should have been at Wembley? Could Earnest Lynch care to explain – in his role as the most erudite contributor to this site.

Sometimes England play at other grounds so supporters from the region’s can attend without having to travel to londinium.

This was one of those occasions.

Nearly felt a bit of sympathy for Harry McGuire when he got boo ‘d on as a sub.

  12. I’ve just scrolled through umpteen You Tube alleged highlight videos of the Eng- Hun game. ALL of them were these irritating moving subbuteo player simulations. Why would anyone want to watch that crap, far less subscribe to them? Some of them, although purporting to be highlights, show ONE still photo, plus statistics, while playing computer generated music. Where has this pernicious trend come from? Turns the beautiful game ( quite literally ) to a video game charade. I have no idea how anyone who posts these on YouTube hopes to earn any money, but somehow they do, ss they are proliferating like wildfire.

  13. I will say it again as I believe some people are a bit naive, anyone who thinks Scottish football is not CORRUPT should open their eyes and not be brainwashed by what they read the SMSM. Infact you should stop reading the drivel in the rags. No oxygen and all that.

Happy to hear anyones views on how Scottish football is not CORRUPT but I wont hold my breathe for that.

    CORRUPT to the core.

Dim Tim 50+ year old never done whining aboot OO parades.

Same Dim Tim hands season ticket monies to a so-called Celtic PLC who not only pulled dead RFC out of their coffin in 2012 but sneakily agrees to retain RFC v CFC 2012 old firm ticket price of £49(more than CL?) when RFC ‘returned’ to same league as Celtic, in 2016!!!!

Dim Tim has nothing, zero, zilch, nada, to say about corrupt CFC PLC retaining old firm ticket price in 2016, ie the PLC view RFC 2016 as the same club as RFC 2012?

    Nothing!

    Not a single question?

Celtic are metaphorically dead in honest eyes until this chapter is remedied.

Celtic’s Integrity is trapped in a moment in 2016 where the grubby old firm ticket price fixing went on enabling corrupt Celtic fc to AGREE that same club tricky ticket price £49 had to be FIXED.

All done behind the Brendan Rodgers welcome parties EYE.

    Then we had….

The PLC view RFC 2012 as the same club as RFC in 2016.

That’s what the PLC pulled off behind the squirrel street parties serenading the PLC squirrel recruitment of Brendan Rodgers, who AFTER 2 successive years of old firm games cemented back onto the fixture list without Celtic PLC being asked one question about are RFC 2016 the same as RFC in 2012, not a single question, not even from Phil, BR was used to bring back the old firm fixture without a single peep, from anyone, and when his using was over, Brendan endured the PLC transfer window calamities which hastened his departure.

    Astonishing!

BR was ended, left, quit, etc, but but but, was BR used to smooth over the return of the old firm fixture?

Not a single question about “are RFC 2016 the same as RFC in 2012?”

    Absolutely astonishing.

No MSM, players, or even Celtic supporters invited to the BR interviews, dared to ask the “REAL” questions?

    Not a single question!

Questions left the stage in 2008 when Gerald McNee retired.

    Utterly Astonishing!

Celtic supporters didn’t ask WHY are old firm tickets the same £49 price in 2016, as that was the price in 2012 as well, but RFC are “supposed” to have died in 2012?

    Not a single question?

    Not one?

    Not even from forensic Phil?

    Nothing?

Sing along with Brendan whilst the PLC sell Celtic’s soul out the back door, under the table, whatever, so long as the old firm game was back, and Celtic’s supposed “IRISH REBEL” supporters were outsmarted by a pro old firm, Dublin masonic golfing cartel fueled Celtic PLC.

    That is unacceptable.

    That is unforgivable.

    That is rank dumbfkery.

That is spitting on the graves of the real Tims who didn’t get the chance to furnish themselves with wall to wall evidence that most Celtic supporters should be aware of in this day and age.

That is transferring the title of “ZOMBIES” to 2012 onward Celtic supporters, they should be called a lot worse than that but “ZOMBIES” seems to fit.

What a shameful family the Celtic supporters have become.

From “BEST FANS IN THE WORLD” 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s.

    To “NOBODIES MUGS” in 1994.

To the MON, Henrik, etc, inspired award for Seville 2003.

To the Green Zombie Tims who souled out to the old firm fixture in 2016, and subsequent souled out events, Res12, 5WA, Trophy Stripping, Lawwell hiding from Ch4’s shouty Alex Thompson regarding peado questions hiding and making Celtic fc look hideous, and anyone associated with CFC placed into the “DODGY” category, Celtic supporters voting for a local govt who spits at Tim’s.

Celtic supporters either being ruthlessly outplayed, or they can’t be bothered anymore about, ETHICS, MORAL’S, PRINCIPLE’S, or most important of all, protecting Celtic fc’s INTEGRITY.

Celtic’s INTEGRITY is far more important than someone losing their seat.

Losing seats is auld wifies at the bingo patter!

All of that and so much more.

And as yet…..not a single question about CFC old firm ticket “FIXING” of 2016.

    Astonishing!

All of that 👆 “SNUBBED” by Dim Tim.

Yet 50+ year old Dim Tim gets all hot and bothered about OO parades?

    Joke fc.
