McAllister shows how far aspirations have fallen

330

Newco assistant, Gary McAllister, this week told the media “to finish the season with a flourish would be a big positive going into the summer.”  On hearing this, I thought back to the 3-0 win in a meaningless game against Rangers in May 1995.  We left Hampden (our temporary home) with a child-like joy: we had a great day out but the ‘adults’ knew nothing of significant had occurred.

It is demeaning for an aspirational club to talk about the prospect of feeling positive at winning a meaningless fixture.  Especially when they cannot even reach a cup final.  To the outsider, this looks the opposite of aspirational.  It looks needy and desperate.

Of considerably greater importance to Celtic in May 1995 was the Scottish Cup Final win over that other soon-to-be-liquidated team, Airdrie.  We brought a trophy home for the first time in six years, in actual positive.

Win, lose or draw on Sunday, anyone who leaves Ibrox feeling positive or negative about the summer on the back of what happened that day is a fool.  Gary, it’s not a good look.

Lorentes might have produced the coup de gras but his introduction caused Ajax defensive problems. He won a lot of high ball and so won territory.

If Celtic do not have the silver bullet that information has not been stated to Res12 guys or in public.

I’m sure everyone would be all ears.

What they are saying is they have no support from other clubs or UEFA but if you read the Traverso response of 8 June 2016 to Res12 lawyer UEFA were open to an approach from a member club.

That put the ball in Celtic’s court but from the off they did not want UEFA involvement but were willing to deal with the SFA.

Now as it turns out after 4 years of questioning the SFA in 2017 instigated an investigation under their Judicial Panel Protocol that led in May 2018 to a JPDisciplinay Tribunal to investigate the licensing issue but limited to the monitoring period.

This was crucial as it removed the locus of shareholders to ask questions as any sanctions for breaches in that period would have been applied in following season so no loss of share value in 2011.

The exclusion of end of March 2011 from JPDT scrutiny was challenged by Res12 lawyers in June 2018 with supporting evidence a payable and not a potential liability existed at 31 March and no response to that challenge has been received.

Turns out the SFA in fact surrendered any right to investigate misdemeanors by RFC under a clause in the 5 Way Agreement that allocated that responsibility to Court of Arbitration on Sport.

The SFA and Celtic knew that from 2012 unless of course Celtic were never shown the 5 Way Agreement.

There are a crate of silver bullets in there but the problem is firing them without taking Celtic’s foot off.

  3. Mmm if Lenny did indeed tell Timo to ‘pack his things and go home’ rather than hang about for Sunday it seems a bit dicky imo

Would have been a great option to even come off the bench and he still has mates in the squad

    Why do it?

It is with great regret the Family of Maxi wish to let all his friends, especially from Club Celtic, that he has passed away today, to everyone who knew Maxi we all know what a character he was, in every sense of the word

The Celtic Family has lost another member today

    May he rest in peace

On Celticminded saying that he was given the option of staying for the cup final by the USA but chose to go with the under 20s. Lennon then told him to clear his locker.

  6. Bhoys if Celtic FC allows Sevco to even narrow the chasm that currently exists between the teams squad wise to a point where 10IAR is under threat those responsible will be reviled forever. The biggest threat to 10IAR is complacency. Not investing in quality 1st team ready players, not appointing the right manager, not standing up to blatant bias officiating. That is what will ensure we do not win 10IAR and beyond. They, Sevco, will not improve beyond their current level; they haven’t the finances to do so. However we as a team can regress, and it could be argued are in the process of doing so already. Does anyone really believe that we will spend any significant amount of money on a player this summer transfer window to improve the 1st team squad and I mean the equivalent of the, alleged, amount of money spent securing Eddy? We don’t have the right to win everything all the time but given our vastly superior financial advantage there should be no excuses. Unless of course Sevco can do a Leicester city defy the odds and win the SPFL. But 99.9 times out of 100 in modern football it is the clubs with the biggest wallets that invariably win league titles.

    Auldheid,

    Thanks for your reply.

The finer details of the who, what ,wheres confuse me.

My simple understanding is that the SFA and UEFA kick the ball around between themselves, with neither doing what was required.

I understood that UEFA told Celtic to take it up with the SFA.

Can you, therefore explain to me, in the simplest of terms, what Celtic could/should do to effectively right the many wrongs that have been done?

  10. Re. Weah

One story is that the USA were willing to let him stay until after the cup final but Weah wanted to join up before that

Apparently he wanted to stay until after Sunday then leave but Lenny said naw leave now if you are going to leave

From a purely footballing perspective i think it a really bad decision from Lenny as he would have come in useful for Sunday

Either way i loved the guy and think he was a massive reason for our winning run after Christmas and having him about the club really seemed to lift the place. Never seemed to complain and was always positive and upbeat. I would have liked to have seen him lift the trophy next Saturday as well

It’s clear he is close to Edouard and its a pity he will not be staying for another season

Anyway, i wish him well wherever he ends up

  11. Have to agree with Paul the title and the League Cup have been won and the game on Sunday is a nothing fixture. This will be far from an edge of the seat game for me and if Celtic were out of the title race I may have even given the game a miss. Celtic’s main task is to get through this match without any injuries to our players and get ready for the Cup final in a few weeks time. Then get the manager situation sorted and strengthen the team for the Champions Lge qualifiers.

Sorry to hear of AOWs losses. Prayers and candles will be offered up tomorrow.

SFTB’s post on MAH was superb. Stephen was indeed a gentleman.

    It was a privilege

  13. Celtic do not have the money that other clubs from bigger leagues have. we sign young guys with potential and move them on once/ if they outgrow the spfl. we try to produce players from the academy too. Some players stick around and offer good balance.

We generally lose our best players once they have proven themselves and replace with players looking to do the same. That means our standards regularly spike and drop off.

I feel Celtic can improve things by:

Reducing the squad size to 20 max.

Never signing squad fillers I.e. Gamboa, compper, izzy (second time), ddv, hayes, mulumba, etc…

Stop loans if no option to buy i.e weah, benkovic, toljan etc…

Scout youth kids throughtout the globe I.e 13, 14, 15, 16 for academy.

Show faith in the top kids we signed up.

Send our kids to clubs where they can develop as quick as possible from 18 years old if not ready for our first team.

We have about 15 first teamers collecting wages for nothing while. That would get you 4 quality players, 6 if you then move on the

4 guys you would lookimg to replace in the first team.

One thing about Neil Lennon is , he is no mug, Weah tried to play us like a flute ( if you’ll pardon the pun) I would rather have Lewis Morgan in the Cup Final team.

  21. He was a breath of fresh air initially.

But with change of Manager, and then a Celtic first team under the pressure of getting over the line… Timo Weah’s impact this last 5-6 weeks has been minimal.

Therefore I don’t foresee that that was about to change all of a sudden. So in fact as things currently stand, not a huge factor, him departing for U.S u20’s world cup squad.
