McAllister shows how far aspirations have fallen

330

Newco assistant, Gary McAllister, this week told the media “to finish the season with a flourish would be a big positive going into the summer.”  On hearing this, I thought back to the 3-0 win in a meaningless game against Rangers in May 1995.  We left Hampden (our temporary home) with a child-like joy: we had a great day out but the ‘adults’ knew nothing of significant had occurred.

It is demeaning for an aspirational club to talk about the prospect of feeling positive at winning a meaningless fixture.  Especially when they cannot even reach a cup final.  To the outsider, this looks the opposite of aspirational.  It looks needy and desperate.

Of considerably greater importance to Celtic in May 1995 was the Scottish Cup Final win over that other soon-to-be-liquidated team, Airdrie.  We brought a trophy home for the first time in six years, in actual positive.

Win, lose or draw on Sunday, anyone who leaves Ibrox feeling positive or negative about the summer on the back of what happened that day is a fool.  Gary, it’s not a good look.

  1. Auldheid,

    Thanks for your reply.

    The finer details of the who, what ,wheres confuse me.

    My simple understanding is that the SFA and UEFA kick the ball around between themselves, with neither doing what was required.

    I understood that UEFA told Celtic to take it up with the SFA.

    =/=====/=

    No. I refer you to Traverso reply of 8th June 2016 on Res12 Timeline at https://www.res12.uk where he says Celtic can pursue the matter with UEFA. They haven’t . They were against involving UEFA from the beginning and were prepared to vote Res12 down as unnecessary until on line info that they were aware of months before Res12 surfaced, suggested an investigation was needed.

    =/=====/

    Can you, therefore explain to me, in the simplest of terms, what Celtic could/should do to effectively right the many wrongs that have been done?

    ======

    The answer lies in the above. Now that the investigation Res12 asked for has done what Res12 asked , showing possible fraud/corruption which means no time bar, take the case to UEFA as the SFA route has proven functus as a result of a clause in the 5 Way Agreement requiring CAS adjudicate on matters relating to Rangers.

    Or justify not doing so to Celtic shareholders with assurances the SFA licensing system, that should have caught details of overdue tax from 2008 if Rangers presented what the rules required, has been overhauled to ensure Celtic will never again lose out on a UEFA place if the process is applied equitably to all clubs.

    2011 is when doubts surfaced but there are other areas of UEFA rules that required full disclosure prior to 2011, not something Rangers excelled at.

    Questions regarding what was being referred to CAS were asked at the AGM as there are concerns a key period was being excluded from scrutiny. The same point was made to SFA in June 2018.

    6 months later no reply from Celtic, 11 months later no reply from SFA to Res12 lawyers. To rely on a dysfunctional judicial process to produce justice when there is strong evidence of wrong doing asks questions of Celtic as much as the SFA.

    I’ve just watched Celtic tribute to Cesar and Stevie on BBC Scotland, isn’t it wonderful just to be a tim and we should all be proud to be a part of this wonderful family.

    Guess what managers , players and board members come and go but we as fans remain the fact Celtic are ☘️☘️??

    Treat it as a game v Motherwell and be sensible with team selection with the cup final in mind – and still beat them.

  5. Aberdeen v Hearts, one of the worst games I’ve ever seen.

So whether it’s conscious or not, the sub-conscious of many of their players, will be packing their sun screen, flip-flops, and Asda George shades…. thinking about their dream vacations to Benidorm.

  20. Thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers for my aunt and uncle.

    Sadly, my uncle Colm passed this morning and his funeral will be at St Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny on Sunday at 12.00. All welcome if based there. I had a wee tour of the cathedral last year and love the place. He was a good man and had a long and happy life. Well, as much as any man can.

    Gutted I can’t make funeral at short notice but my bro and sis will step in.

    My aunt is still fighting but the clock is running.

    Connaire and CosyCornerBhoy, a simple thanks gents.

    That question was never put to Celtic from a Res12 angle.

    The significance of the 5 Way in terms of it being the reason the JPDT deferred to CAS only emerged gradually after last July and only in terms of SFA knowledge from 2012.

    However it does raise serious issues in respect of how Celtic shareholders representatives have been handled.

  22. This game on Sunday means more than some people think, it’s a battle of young and old in midfield can our old guard hack it, and take us into next season with some confidence, or does slippy get some confidence noing our guys are finished and living on past glories

    Hello again all you young rebels.

    Another big Sunday coming up for our youth team here in Oz.

    No game last week so our nearest rivals are level at the top with us

    but a win will see us go clear again.

    Been into their heads all week about the upcoming fixture against

    the Brighton huns and why we must pump them so a solid victory

    this week will have them worried.

    As usual some nasty tweets going on about what they/us new kids on

    the block can expect but our bhoys will handle it.

    After the game it’s straight down to rebel town and meet up with Paddy

    and the rest of the peninsula CSC.

    Doesn’t matter if it’s a meaningless fixture, it’s the stickies, and i know

    myself and the rest of our bhoys just exist to beat them.

    The game kicks off at 9.0 clock here and some of the ghuys and ghals

    meeting up for meals before the game so it’s bound to be a full house

    in the Re- Publican so all you Oz Tims get down early.

    See you all there.

    COYBIG.
