McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

I was in the camp of when stripped titles removed

Leave UNAWARDED DUE TO CHEATING BY RFC next to them as an eternal stain on them.

Now I think not only of us but about Ayr utd, QOS and others who were cheated out of maybe the only day of glory in their history and feel sick at what that mob done to not only us but other clubs.

SOOOOOOOOOOO im now in the camp of award them to the runners up

Fans of all clubs deserve to have in their history books Cup winners 19??

    RFC are eternaly stained anyway.

Some realities for Ally McCoist to try to assimilate.

The penalties RFC suffered so far resulted from RFC going into administration and then liquidation.

RFC has history but it no longer exists. Specifically It is not Sevco Scotland.

Sevco Scotland has applied for the transfer of the SFA share previously owned by RFC to be transferred to it.

The SFA can ascribe whatever conditions to that transfer it chooses. That includes a transfer ban because of the misdemeanours of the previous share owners.

If the current investigation into dual contracts concludes RFC fielded ineligible players the SFA has no choice but to overturn the results of all matches concerned.

If that results in an outcome that titles and cups were ‘won’ unfairly they must be stripped from RFC.

This will not impact Sevco Scotland which is a different organisation.

Sevco Scotland will not be eligible to play in Europe for 3 years even if it did qualify because it has no history financial or otherwise.

Your or other Sevco Scotland officials attempts to influence or resist the SFA’s investigation and any prospective sanctions or penalties based on the previous RFC’s behaviour are wholly inappropriate and can only negatively influence the prospects of Sevco Scotland gaining the share transfer.

    Now have you got that.

Thought McFadden was outstanding and what I noticed was the fitness of Donegal in the last 15 minutes. They ran Down ragged. Now it begs the obvious question.Do you think they can win The All Ireland?

Personally I’d have kept Wilson and either Dan or Loovens for another season.

I’m not blinkered mate I probably have many of the same concerns that you have please believe me.

For me CL qualification or Europa League qualification would be sufficient progress for this season.

  10. For the fans the purpose of pre season friendlies, particularly abroad, should be to enjoy the craic.

For the players and management it should be to help the players get back in the groove.

Results and performances really don’t matter.

These games are to the football season what a pre match warm up is to a game.

    Ernie,

In relation to the first paragraph of your post, people on KDS were saying that Celtic did not acknowledge their fans after the game and that some of our fans were attacked on the train after the match by Ajax fans.

    HT

I honestly cannot see it happening. This is not based on yesterdays performance but since last year we have lost the above guys none of whom I rated except for Wilson when fit. They do however have lots of experience.

The SPL teams and Scottish football in general has plummeted even more due to trying to keep the huns in medals and then alive. See the USA Scotland match see how poor the Czech Republic are etc.

After yesterday and the previous meaningless friendlies against German 3rd division outfits and SFTB´s sterling advice; I dont expect us to qualify for Europe and I will never spend a penny on watching Celtic in a friendly now that I know that the club actively discourages us from attending or at least exepecting ANYTHING in return.

Which for a European based Celtic fan is about 80% of your chance of actually seeing Celtic. Summer tours and summer holidays etc.

Even the wife said to me yesterday and you wanted to stay in Amsterdam for an extra week to watch this ??? and she knows nothing about fitba.

  15. I wonder how the comments on the match would have been if this had been how the match went?

The players should always acknowledge the fans, particularly when they have been crap. Neil Lennon should have made them do so.

Being attacked by other fans is a risk you take in Europe. It’s part of the package.

Watched our county team destroy Down today. Our fitness and high performance levels in the 2nd half of games makes the difference. Despite a very average first half, I was very confident at half time. Roll on the quarters…..I’ll be in Donegal for them, game will be at Croker I assume.

My cousin was interviewed at HT on BBC2 and he referred to Michael Murphy as a “horse of a man” – I can’t disagree with that…..

Will try and make Sean Og’s, despite the added extra trek from the Rosses (what is wrong with that fine establishment in Annagry where I can once again admire the Charles Patrick portrait……)

Aye but you said the purpose of being abroad for the fans should be to enjoy the craic and I agree, seems these lads had their jaws and skulls CRACKED.

  22. For those that say results pre season dont matter — rubbish!!

Big Jock always said pre season established confidence patterns of play and winning mentality

Personnally i will take his word rather than happy campers who seem to think anyone wanting us to get better players or get winning results are not true Celtic men

Well ive supported Celtic for over 50 years and i will continue to critisice my manager my board etc if i believe they are shortchanging me And as our manager stated clearly at end of last season that he wanted centre half and striker before CL qualifiers and as of this moment we havent then i believe our Club are shortchanging not just the Manager but the fans also

This does not make me any less of a Celtic man than those who see getting into the Europa league as progress!!!

  23. Tricoloured Ribbon on

Was there anything sinister in Mark Sidebottom saying prior to todays Ulster Final-“Thousands here today in the BIG HOUSE.”

  24. I’m going to start a rammy I know, but I’d like to ask what the signifiers were/are that make us think we are at Ajax’s level?

There’s optimism, sure, but it has to be blended with realism.

And as for MON’s pre-seasons – we’re talking about a manager who inherited Lubo and Henrik and Stan to name a few. Inherited.

    That’s some benchmarks there…

Not only did I not see yesterday’s game, I haven’t seen any of our pre season games.

Consequently I’m not qualified to say whether we’ve progressed from last season.

However, I wouldn’t be basing my judgement on these games in any case mate.

Really you were expecting Celtic to not get into Ajaxs box, have a shot on goal or be unable to keep possession against an Ajax second team for more than a minute ?

    Hail Hail

  27. Philbhoy , personally speaking….you sound like a complete prick of a man. I know this is the internet and we’ve got to expect keyboard idiots, but you really take the biscuit. I stand over everything I said about that pathetic performance last night – does that make me any less a supporter ??? I stood and supported the team 100% last night with everything I had, just the same as I have done all my life (including 2 years when I had a season ticket and travelled over from Ireland to support the team every fortnight (puttin myself in debt in the process)). You really are a class a idiot – nothin more, nothin less.

I got Noel’s text message on my house phone. I am trying to arrange things to get across for that time. I have to be back here for the 10th August to go down to London for the Olympics but I may manage a few days over if all goes well.

We can watch the away game against HJK seemingly secure in the expectation that I do not want better players or better results. Who knew? Thank god we have the miserable to enlighten some of us :-)
