McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

    Paul,

Only last week, Charles Green stated Sevco were ‘sometines Newco, Sometimes Oldco’, intimating this suited the authorities, not Sevco. Quite simply, if this is a transfer of membership then Sevco are liable for penalties of the Oldco. This is the price they must pay to be fast-tracked into the SFL, the only mechanism which will allow them to leap-frog Spartans et al.

I am increasingly believing they will not play at all. Let us not forget it took Oldco 3 MOLNTHS to pass over the required information for a prima facie case to be established. This is not the action of an innocent party, but let’s follow the old ‘innocent until proved guilty’ line for now. Even if they had passed over all the required information when initially requested, there is no guarantee the shambles holding this particular investigation would have reached a decision before today.

We now await a ruling on their guilt or innocence regarding EBTs/dual contracts. If this is not concluded quickly, Sevco will not agree to penalties which may not arise, but should they be found guilty then the punishment could be expulsion, termination of Oldco membership or suspension. Something has to give soon, and I hope it is not the authorities sweeping it all under the carpet for the….ahem…’good of the game’.

And many more that paid the money to go and see Celtic went and had a good time regardless. Watch the crowd scenes! I think you’ll find that the majority of the moaners are those who watched it in a bar without any money being paid apart for that spent on their own pleasure.

Okay , like the idea of winding them up,however that will not be necessary. They will be spitting feathers, the backlash in ludges and Div 3 grounds will be the predictable bile being belted out with even greater venom.

I prefer if we earned the titles , we are good enough to catch them on our own. I am not comfortable with being handed them years later.

    Thanks for the long post.

A lot of hot air me thinks due to your inability to read a whole thread in an attempt to capture what a CQN poster actually thinks but to isolate just the one post. When you are capable of that I will respond to anything pertitent you may have to counter with. Your assumptions of which there are many are your assumptions/presumptions and are wildly innaccurate and as always reveal more about you than the poster. Nothing new there either.

Agreed but what exactly are the individual areas of responsibilities?

Who protects sporting integrity for example? Surely that should be the SFA’s prime role. Instead they have become ad commercially minded as the SPL and as such are comprimised as an organisation. An SFA doing its job to protect football would have told The SPL that any clause to include 4 OF games was unacceptable or at least made sure a get out clause to protect integrity was included.

A complete review of roles and responsibilities is required to ensure adequate checks and balances are built in and that processes, like club licencing that if conducted properly, will protect all clubs, are in fact done with diligence.

The SFA, SPL and SFL need to take steps to restructure their governance systems before they start messing around with new league structures.

They have destroyed any notion that Scottish football can govern itself, as constituted, in an equitable manner.

Without that governamce change it is more deck chair arranging.

I think that’s the point – we did earn them, we were good enough and we would have won them if it weren’t for cheating. The global principle for cheating seems to be title stripped, awarded to next place. I’m happy with that.

The club sold him his ticket, but presumably no one was holding a gun to Tiny Tim’s head when he bought it. I had the chance to go to Amsterdam with a couple of mates for last night’s game, but I decided not to waste my money with the start of the season just around the corner.

People who attend pre-season friendlies expecting competitive football are kidding themselves. These games are meaningless – the results count for nothing.

  12. SFTB

Do you not agree that any CFC fan is entitled to be unhappy and moan about such a woefully inept performance …..most who are moaning are more concerned by the bigger picture …..our appalling pre-season form

  13. if helsinki knock us out we still get a crack at the europa dont we?

disappointed but not entirely surprised by the result last night.

think we’ll see a vast improvement over the next fortnight. just about every decent player we’ve got wants out of the SPL and they know europe is their meal ticket into a better league.

if we dont get back up to speed soon most of these players will be stuck in SPL and at best, if they’re lucky, some domestic glory and will be there lot this season. if that isnt enough of an incentive for them to raise their game, it’s going to be a long dull season for them and us.

The group stages of the Europa League are a must. It’s up to Lenny to get them all to raise their game now.

    Auldheid,

It’s never been clearer that the sfa’s main agenda is the protection of their club.

I see a lot of people telling them to grow a pair, IMO they don’t need to grow a pair. They are standing up Staunchly for their club, in the face of every right thinking individual they are doing the job.

They will not be deflected from this course, the members must interviene and call for an independent judicial inquirer if we want integrity restored.

  18. Ball retention in European football is essential. It’s widely accepted that Ki is the most effective player we have in that regard.

He is also our most valued asset presently.

If we were to sell him for between £5-8m it would allow us to purchase a much needed centre half and an additional striker. These additions would be seen as necessary for us to progress in Europe.

However, we would then be without the very player who could be key to progress.

    Decisions, decisions.

  21. Celtic supporters are not stupid, they see the bigger picture ,and what they are saying on here ,is that helsinki will be no push over ,then they say oh well europa league, before a ball is kicked they know the outcome, lenny comes away away with the same excuses not good enough , well fix it then, but like a lot on here im still not sure of him being celtics first team coach, as somebody posted earlier he was the cheap option .that my friends is what celtic football club is all about , cheap options , no this board have no ambition both inside and outside celtic park

  22. Any governing authorities in sport, when presented with evidence of cheating has an obligation to FULLY investigate the case, publish its findings and apply appropriate sanctions if case is proven.

To that end, the SFA (not just the SPL) MUST investigate RFC (corpus delicti), going back through every year until they have uncovered the full extent of their cheating.

Even fielding 1 player not legally registered results in an AUTOMATIC 0-3 result.

RFC (cd) have fielded almost entired teams of illegally registered players, in almost every game they have played, in a wide range of competitions.

When fully uncovered, this will be the biggest scandal in world sport ever.

I certainly cannot recall any other scandal to compare with it.

Has there ever been any club/person who has been given protection by the authorities of the sport and not only permitted to continue cheating but have been actively assisted?

The scandal is not simply about RFC (cd) but about the authorities running the game.

The downfall of RFC (cd) is simply the first step in the downfall of the corrupt officials at the SFA.

    Bring it on….

I truely despair at the mindset of fans wishing Ki out the door.

For years,we have complained about the prevalence of hammer-throwers and box-to-box midfielders with a great engine, getting games ahead of genuinely skilled footballers.

Look at the deification on here of Victor Wanyama as an example. In footballing terms,he is never on a par with Ki,but I know who most fans would rather have in the team.

A strange development from fans who bemoan the death of the beautiful game.
