McGregor and managing form of young players

913

If you’ve not been following the work being done in your name in Malawi this week, do so here.  20 people arrived from Scotland early this week on behalf of the Celtic Foundation to renovate six centres which feed children ages five and under.  They are also building a latrine (pretty sure this is a toilet) at one of the centres.

It’s another remarkable testament to the ethos of Celtic 127 years after the project started.

The Foundation are in Malawi with Mary’s Meals, the remarkable Scottish charity which is feeding hundreds of thousands of the world’s poorest children each day.  By careful management of costs, utilisation of volunteers and ‘vocational’ staff, a remarkably high 93% of their revenue reaches those in need on the ground.

Really good to read Callum McGregor speaking to Celtic media.  Not that he had anything particularly illuminating to say, but he was speaking after putting in a training session, confirming his return to fitness.

With the injury to James Forrest, Callum was one of the few bright lights in our early season form, opening the scoring in three consecutive European away games.  He even shone in the inept Murryfield performance against Legia.

At the Hearts game last month I overheard someone suggest Callum needed a rest.  His form had definitely dipped, which is not uncommon after young players sparkly when first breaking into the team.  If he stayed fit there’s little chance he would have been rested for any of the recent games, such has been the form of those around him, so maybe his recent illness came at the right time.

Jobo, hopefully the only cauld thing in your holiday is the cervezas. Have a great time. I hope your wife is feeling better.

Blantyre, that was very good of your dad to bring you a fish supper, it is Friday after all. Did you get a pickled onion with it?

I hope your recovery goes well.

Jamesgang, sorry I never got back to you last night when you replied to my post that we should try out a diamond formation again. When we used it v the diets and the mothers last season, the joy of the aggregate score of twelve nil would only have been surpassed if we got into double figures in each game. Both clubs were overdue a real skelping from us.

As far as the EPL is concerned, they’re not permitted to broadcast outside of the UK under the terms of their rights deal.

    Ditto Scottish Football.

The £60M pa is strictly a UK geographic deal.

Sales of MoTD to overseas territories, for example Setanta’s show in Ireland (Rep of), are complex. The ‘home’ broadcaster requires to purchase both the broadcast rights from the EPL, and then the BBC packaging of them from the Beeb. Otherwise they would simply have the punditry, not the football.

From that respect, BBC gets a contribution towards their production costs for the programme, and the EPL gets its broadcasting rights royalty. You’ll need to ask Setanta what the split is with their current deal.

    Trust that’s helpful.

The budget for MOTD is more than that for the whole of BBC Scotland(TV, radio, Gaelic, on-line) the whole lot.

I would have thot that if the club were unhappy with the way things are being run, they could talk to the other clubs, get together and actually hold the sfa to account.

From the lack of any action whatsoever, it seems the club and the rest are happy with the status quo.

    ===============================

Yes you would think so, but other clubs have supporters who are not happy with the situation and would be as unhappy about an unreconstructed return of an unreconstructed club to an unreconstructed system of governance that demonstrates daily its incompetence.

As is being shown at Ibrox, supporters are being taken for mugs by clubs with no protection from anyone in a position of authority. When Rangers supporters send a well written request to the SFA for help and asks them to apply the rules (if Carlsberg did irony eh?) then the mood for change is picking up.

  8. Auldheid

The irony of them is a joke tho, they want rules applied when they think it might not be to their benefit.

All the other rules are made for them.

Prob with your argument re the other clubs, their attendances are all up, supporters are going back, it may change when the hun are back, but I doubt it till they are challenging again, it may well be too late then mi amigo, if fact, it will be to late then, for us as well, especially us, we have blown the chance.

Petec, my son plays under 16 in the Lanarkshire Football ‘Developement’ League.

For the past three years, its not been an enjoyable experience. The behaviour of other teams’ coaches and parents, takes away any enjoyment of watching youth football.

It should be changed to the Lanarkshire Football Winning League.

My son’s team aren’t the best. There are very good teams in the league but their attitude could be better in relation to their player’s behaviour.

I was told one team had 25 players on their books but did not release the registrations of some players who wanted to leave in order to play. A sad state of affairs.

Winning is important but not as important as learning.

    TET

Yes, Celtic created several chances, notably Stokes (2) easy headers from crosses on the right; Guidetti, who was unlucky; Denayer’s second half shot, which wasn’t hit properly; and Griffith’s who wasn’t supple enough to convert. I’m sure there were others too.

Most you’ll recall came late in the second period. Ambrose in particular seems loathe to cross the ball, despite taking up good positions. Why do we play the ball wide when we don’t deliver ?

Against Hamilton, in that second period Efe ended up hitting the ball in and created at least one of the aforementioned. But he doesn’t want to. It’s apparent and why are we playing the ball there ?

But until late in the second ( and in previous matches) Celtic channelled an endless stream of passes to our wide players only to have them naturally gravitate inside, or to our seemingly reticent right back, or Emelio who needs some coaching in crossing the ball.

The tactics are wrong for the set-up. These mistakes are repeated.

And of course the semi redundant wide players leave us light in midfield.
