McGregor and managing form of young players

913

If you’ve not been following the work being done in your name in Malawi this week, do so here.  20 people arrived from Scotland early this week on behalf of the Celtic Foundation to renovate six centres which feed children ages five and under.  They are also building a latrine (pretty sure this is a toilet) at one of the centres.

It’s another remarkable testament to the ethos of Celtic 127 years after the project started.

The Foundation are in Malawi with Mary’s Meals, the remarkable Scottish charity which is feeding hundreds of thousands of the world’s poorest children each day.  By careful management of costs, utilisation of volunteers and ‘vocational’ staff, a remarkably high 93% of their revenue reaches those in need on the ground.

Really good to read Callum McGregor speaking to Celtic media.  Not that he had anything particularly illuminating to say, but he was speaking after putting in a training session, confirming his return to fitness.

With the injury to James Forrest, Callum was one of the few bright lights in our early season form, opening the scoring in three consecutive European away games.  He even shone in the inept Murryfield performance against Legia.

At the Hearts game last month I overheard someone suggest Callum needed a rest.  His form had definitely dipped, which is not uncommon after young players sparkly when first breaking into the team.  If he stayed fit there’s little chance he would have been rested for any of the recent games, such has been the form of those around him, so maybe his recent illness came at the right time.

    KevJungle,

The olde teams when the Maestro was entering the Celtic First team, were awesome, maybe that is just me being sentimental.

    ===============================

I think we were spoiled. I actually remember thinking when Choccy McClair and Le Petit Merde left us that we would have no problem getting a replacement because we’d always had great goalscorers – and that was true of Celtic throughout their entire history up to that point. We always seemed to have a really strong midfield too.

Stats would suggest we were poor in Europe but it seemed better than it does now. It was perhaps more ‘real’. Guys earning a wee bit more than their Jungle followers, playing their guts out for the ’cause’ (such as it was)

    Modern Nostalgic Memories is rubbish…..

The Celtic supporting (from the very early stages) Players will enhance our Club, you know that. Witness the Love when Paul scored a goal, and for Scotland too.

Noone knows when Christ will return, anyone who does predict that, is a FOOL.

We must carry on and, IMO, keep going the opposite way of Society, like Celtic are doing with driving down the PAY….. Bonuses – I’m all for that, reward actual endeavour.

Thats my lovely ghirls on route to Corfu, flight departed at 6.35pm…

They left home at 2pm and tbj came in to visit, he left at 5.40 and tohg brought me in a fish supper, I wonder if people are worried about me…..8-))

  3. Winning the SPFL with Celtic is the easiest league title to win any manager could hope to win, the fact that RD is making heavy weather of it against 11 other teams who have no budget at all says it all

    1. I’d choose Sally Magnusson over any of the male presenters for my team. They’re a bunch of wet wimps.

    2. Celtic job, wrong time wrong place for an ego with a ridiculous beard. But confident one say it’ll happen…..

    3. Next…..manager of the month….. ‘It’s not about me, it’s about the players.’ A Stubbs Esq. My kinda Bhoy!

    Manners cost nothing.

Neither does a wee dose of humility.

Don’t know what you mean alienating players, who, and for why ?

As far as I can see, he is trying to see who can do what, and if they will fit into his system, hence round pegs and square holes.

The game against HA, so you think making at least two handfulls of very decent chances is not giving the strikers supply, wow.

Gudetti was hobbling about before he was substituted, VvD was a striker before he was converted to a CB.

“”” We need to innovate, otherwise we regress.”””

    From what I see, RD is attempting to innovate, to stick with the same old, we will regress IMO, when all the rest are progressing, hence my stagnation comment >}

WGS is The Best possible Scottish Manager, IMO, he was trying to improve Scottish fitba when he was at Celtic.

I didn’t see Guidetti hobble at the game. The support mafe their feelings known at that.

I’m mystified by the repetition of the wingers mistake. We all see it.

Like I wrote earlier, I’m genuinely worried that the shortcomings are real and not just a guy trying things out.

I hope I’m wrong in this, but the issues are repeated.

The outmannng of our midfield is another.

I agree with those points, always said, win the mid, win the game.

Also agree re wingers, can’t see the point if there is nobody to cross the ball in for.

This is where I have a prob with JC and JK, what is their input, even if RD can’t see what’s wrong, and I believe he must, they must, are they not strong enough to voice their concerns, if not they shouldn’t be in post.

I still think you are wrong that we are not creating chances tho, we are, many, the strikers are not converting them, were we not, I would be asking for his head.

I’m going to Musselburgh tomorrow if Richie is going..PFAyr will go if we come back to Glasgow,I’ve been trying to book a room in a hotel but everything seems booked up, gave up the ghost, return home by train around ten.

Re Horses ,I’ll have to go and have a look at the Musselburgh form, for a while,There’s a horse running tomorrow and I think I told you that I was going to bet it next time it runs as I was impressed with it on it’s first run, there was a young jockey on board, he kept the horse about ten lengths behind all the way but started to run on from about two out and made up about nine lengths in two furlongs, I think we had a bet on the horse that day, but the way it made up the ground impressed me. so I’m going to have a few quid on her. at least I think it’s a filly.
