McGregor and managing form of young players

913

If you’ve not been following the work being done in your name in Malawi this week, do so here.  20 people arrived from Scotland early this week on behalf of the Celtic Foundation to renovate six centres which feed children ages five and under.  They are also building a latrine (pretty sure this is a toilet) at one of the centres.

It’s another remarkable testament to the ethos of Celtic 127 years after the project started.

The Foundation are in Malawi with Mary’s Meals, the remarkable Scottish charity which is feeding hundreds of thousands of the world’s poorest children each day.  By careful management of costs, utilisation of volunteers and ‘vocational’ staff, a remarkably high 93% of their revenue reaches those in need on the ground.

Really good to read Callum McGregor speaking to Celtic media.  Not that he had anything particularly illuminating to say, but he was speaking after putting in a training session, confirming his return to fitness.

With the injury to James Forrest, Callum was one of the few bright lights in our early season form, opening the scoring in three consecutive European away games.  He even shone in the inept Murryfield performance against Legia.

At the Hearts game last month I overheard someone suggest Callum needed a rest.  His form had definitely dipped, which is not uncommon after young players sparkly when first breaking into the team.  If he stayed fit there’s little chance he would have been rested for any of the recent games, such has been the form of those around him, so maybe his recent illness came at the right time.

I hope you don’t think I’m going to vote for UKIP?

The misguided comment I can handle, easily.

  2. What Is The Stars memorably posted six winning tips on the nags on one day a couple of summers ago….bet we’d all swap them for six SPFL wins on the bounce :)

UKIP’s resonant USP is that you can’t put a fag paper between the 2 main parties, the both of them are ignoring the angst that globalisation has brought us….

They will always have a looncore support, but unless the body politic re-engages with oikish anxieties expect more of this – and respect it for what it is….the only alternative presently available.

For Ed to trumpet a half a groat rise in the minimum wage by the year 2525 as his Big Idea illustrated perfectly the disconnect between electorate and Westminster Villagers….

What is the easiest way to make a one off share purchase please? Hargreaves Lansdowne or iii? That living wage AGM vote is upcoming and I want to put my tuppence in :)

the appointment of a manager is the job of the million pound Pete. As supporters we can only decide from what we see and it is obvious Ronny isny the wan for the job IMO, whether million pound Pete picks the right man. It’s his job to get it right. Not opurs.

Asking those of us who criticise and pick someone to replace the current failed choice is moot.

He’s one of us. Always has been.

Happen to very much disagree with his opinion on this but everyone is entitled to an opinion and to express it (within reason).

Personally I AM disappointed in the (lack of) progress. I had expected his philosophy to take effect after just a few games. My opinion is that it is the players who are unable to act out his instructions (or score goals!).

However, I also don’t like some of Ronny’s team selections or subs. All we know is that he works with the players every day and must therefore be in a better position to make those decisions that we are.

Heck, a player becomes better on here the longer he doesn’t play.

So, I’m prepared to give Ronny the January transfer window to make his move. Though I do expect we should be near the top before the window opens. If we’re not, I will begin to get worried…

I don’t see why you are so upset about PL installing a manager who does what he’s told.

Bob Kelly used to pick the team, and we won the European Cup under his leadership.

  9. Ronny’s a pillock but, he’s only a symptom

    of what is wrong.

We need a Paddy McCourt with an engine.

Not a Paddy McCourt who couldn’t get himself

fit enough to complete even ‘one’ game in 5 years

and walked away with £1.5mill in wages of Celtic

    supporters money. Pathetic management.

Ranger FC is what the Celtic ‘official’ website described

Rangers FC as, when Celtic FC played them in the Glasgow

    BTW

Any Southside/ EK / Lanarkshire tims will be welcomed to the football at K Park tomorrow, where EKFC take on Spartans in the Scottish Cup 2nd replay, 3pm.

The tie finished 3-3 at Ainslie Park last week, a cracking match at every level, and I would expect the same again tomorrow.

EK and Spartans have met 4 times in the past year. It stands at 3 draws and a win for Kilby.

No predicting the outcome tomorrow, but keep an eye on the fixed odds, with EK available at 5-1 before last week’s game, a bonkers price considering recent results.

    Anyway, K Park, 3pm.

Winner gets Clyde in the next round.

  20. SELF DOUBT AND SELFISM on

I dont know if Ronny is the best thing since sliced bread and brings an exciting energetic fast style of football or whether he is the poor mans copy of a manager and a complete yes man for the board who accepted the job knowing he would be completely out of his depth. We might never know unless he gets to sign some players in his image and to do that he needs money.

One for the unrepentant Existentialists amongst us, from Ted Hughes

The apes yawn and adore their fleas in the sun.

The parrots shriek as if they were on fire, or strut

Like cheap tarts to attract the stroller with the nut.

Fatigued with indolence, tiger and lion

Lie still as the sun. The boa-constrictor’s coil

Is a fossil. Cage after cage seems empty, or

Stinks of sleepers from the breathing straw.

It might be painted on a nursery wall.

But who runs like the rest past these arrives

At a cage where the crowd stands, stares, mesmerized,

As a child at a dream, at a jaguar hurrying enraged

Through prison darkness after the drills of his eyes

On a short fierce fuse. Not in boredom—

The eye satisfied to be blind in fire,

By the bang of blood in the brain deaf the ear—

He spins from the bars, but there’s no cage to him

More than to the visionary his cell:

His stride is wildernesses of freedom:

The world rolls under the long thrust of his heel.

Over the cage floor the horizons come.
