Midfield protection

930

While Neil Lennon’s mind will be more engaged with preparations for next season than SPL results between now and then he will be a bit alarmed at how porous his midfield has been recently. Celtic have been leaking goals at the back in an alarming manner but the cover from midfield has contributed most to the problem.

Injuries have been disruptive but it’s surprising that the team shape has not been maintained, irrespective of who is playing.

You a fan of Owen’s or do you imagine that MON is pining to come back?

For clarity again, I do not think criticism of the manager should be forbidden; in fact, I think, it is vital that there is a climate for constructive criticism and improvement.

Without sounding too whiny and passive-agressive, I would, however, reserve the right to critique the critical and evaluate the judgemental. Hell, I’d even reserve the right to ridicule the ranting.

So, have a go at whoever you want! Only a delusional numpty would think that you could stop a Celtic fan with a grievance from having it aired. But expect feedback too. I find a lot of the judgemental and critical are surprised and hurt when fire is turned back at them. In short, they can give it out but….

To re-visit our original point, I would say that if an opposing team manager was unusually candid and told our manager that he hates to face a high defensive line as his team does best against a deep line, and then our manager ignored this insight and lost a game by failing to take advantage, you would rightly steam into him.

However, time and time again, opposing managers and players tell us, the Celtic fans, that nothing invigorates them more than hearing the CP crowd grumble and moan at their own players. And time and time again we insist that we are entitled to do so because we pays our money, and to hell with any positive effect it has for our enemies and any negative effect it has on our own.

I am not superhuman, I have tutted, I have moaned and I have grumbled. I have, even, uttered FFS on more than one occasion. However, I do not proclaim this as virtuous behaviour nor do I advocate it in others. I recognise it as self indulgence and I am regretful for indulging and try to get back to cheering as quickly as possible.

    Hope that clears it up.

What is deficient in our set up is the Emperors New Clothes Syndrome,if you know the story then the deficiency is evident.

Let me emphasise not pushing Owen Coyle.

Example, we have been run close by St Mirren and beaten,by what effectively is a poorer set of players, but who have played and were organised to their strengths.

Who does Danny Lennon have whispering in his ear………….Tommy Craig, that’s the sort of guy we need, not cut out for direct in your face Management, but an excellent No 2.

Even Brian Clough had Peter Taylor and dare I say it MON has not done as well without John Robertson.

As for setting the bar high, yes always,we should be wiping the floor with every team in the SPL not giving people in outposts like Dingwall the ability to laugh at me after a 450 mile round trip.

I was once invited to join the masons by a guy I was working with. Lovely fellow. A real gentlemen.

    Still. I was taken aback.

I asked why I might want to join. He explained the economic benefits of being in the know. I enquired as to the secrecy and he explained that you wouldn’t want anyone thinking you’d had a leg up. He then confided that how he had landed this job was through his friend, a masonic agent.

    How could I resist?

I told this guy he was the lower paid contractor on the site. £14 an hour his agent was doing him for. And his wife. Times 35 per week, 44 weeks per year for 2 years. Less 40% for tax.

The company operated a system whereby you could look at the contract between them and your agent. I had availed myself of this, and taken the opportunity to have a wee peek at everyone else’s contracts.

This co-worker and mason thought I was joking when I told him this.

So there you have it. So effective is the secrecy of the masons he the only guy who didn’t know he was the lowest paid guy in the office. £52k after tax c.1994. Ouch!

Der Zobies are a wee bit upset by someone (64 people) questioning their ‘history’

James Traynor, director of communications for Rangers was in no doubt of the club’s stance when he responded to The Drum’s request for a reaction to the investigation.

Jaba States: “Rangers Football Club can confirm they have responded in full to this ridiculous claim and we know the Advertising Standards Authority will take the same view as the football authorities, the European Club Association (ECA), Lord Nimmo Smith and the panel of the London Stock Exchange. For the avoidance of doubt we stress again Rangers FC is Scotland’s most successful football club.”

Do you want Tommy Craig? Or someone like him? Or someone as old as him?

Tommy has advised a manager who has lost 13 and drew 10, winning only 8 of their 31 league games, shipping 48 goals, which was only surpassed by both Dundee teams.

Now, Tommy may be a better coach than all of Lenny or Johann or Gary, but, until such times as he gets the reins, there will be no proof to the assertion.

I was hoping that you might have had inside info ( I have none) which backed up your view that the existing coaches were yes men and Neil brooks no alternative view. However, it seems that was just guess work, an attribution made to fit the facts.

My view is that, I’d wait for clear signs of failure before sacking a manager. We moped and grumbled and hampered WGS’s attempts to improve our squad through 4 of the more successful years in our history until we finally forced him out. The judgemental assured us that anyone could manage Celtic better, even the hapless Tony Mowbray. Well, I have learned to distrust the judgemental. Listen to them and we’d be changing horses every 2nd furlong in a vain belief that change is always for the good.

Even if we appointed Mourinho or Swalex tomorrow, we would still lose in Dingwall and Kirkaldy and places in where we are, as yet, awaiting our first defeat. That is the nature of sport. It allowed us to beat the much more heavily advantaged Barcelona and Spartak etc; But, of course, that was just blind luck, whereas our defeats in the SPL were all down to the management.

It was an unconvincing argument during WGS’s time and it remains unconvincing now.

Constant change is the surest way to self destruct.
