Midweek change for Celtic

940

Busy article today, watch out for notes at the bottom on:

Magners ticket competition for 27 December
Mary’s Meals Malawi school kitchen appeal
CQN Annual, final few posting days before…..
CQN Christmas Raffle – winners have been drawn

One of the resources Ronny Deila has been short of since taking over is training days.  Players have stamina, fitness and speed training work to do every week, while there’s rest time before and after games, so time to work on technical aspects are a premium.

Believe it or not, this is the first midweek Celtic haven’t had a game, or players away on international duty, since the second week of July.  The manager has spoken of how difficult it has been to carry out the extensive tactical changes he has introduced spending only stolen minutes working on them.  The January break will give him another opportunity to spend hours with the players on tactical work.

Apparently newco are keeping McCoist as some kind of blubber human shield for Monday’s AGM!  Nice one.  There’s nothing degrading about that, very classy in fact.  Really disappointed for Ally, I’m sure he could almost taste the £400k he’s counting on – to go quietly.  Let’s hope he puts on a show on Monday and they sort him out thereafter.

It’s almost worth buying a newco share to get along on Monday.  Almost.

It’s been a while since I’ve paid any attention to the man who’s apparently lined-up to replace McCoist next week, Billy Davies.  After his interesting second stint at Nottingham Forest ended earlier this year, The Guardian wrote:

“[Davies] has paid the price for failing to control a personality which latterly seemed to have crossed the border into downright paranoia.

“[He] could never quite escape his self-destructive insecurities.”

It’s not often you read a national newspaper liberally speculating on the mental health, or lack thereof, of an individual.

Failing to control his personality, downright paranoia, self-destructive insecurities!  He’s perfect.  Is there a job in the land this guy is more suited for than newco’s manager?

Our pals at Magners have kindly offered a pair of premium seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand at the home game on 27 December in support of our Mary’s Meals appeal.  You can win the tickets by email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com the answer to the question:

Who do Celtic play on 27 December?

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight (Thursday) so get your entry in.

If you’re entering the competition please consider donating £1 to Mary’s Meals here, where we are hoping to build a kitchen at a school in Chibwata, Dowa, Malawi, for their 909 children.

I’d a look at John Guidetti’s interview with Magners this week, he looks like he’s enjoying himself……..

We’ve drawn the CQN Christmas Raffle, winner of the Special Whisky and CQN Package is ticket number 976, from a lucky reader based in Lythm, we’ll be in touch.

The four runners up all win CQN Packages with ticket numbers 1072, 974, 1190 and 1051, check your tickets, we’ll be in touch soon.

Still time to order your 2015 CQN Annual for Christmas.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – oh, and there’s tons of photos, fresh stories and comment on the first time Inter faced the green and white hoops.

  1. Joe Miller is a Marist Brother educated Celtic supporter from the heart of the east end. He is entitled to his opinions about Celtic without necessarily being a soup taker. I’d bet 100% of players of both teams past and present would want a CFC v RIFC game / final. Surely this isn’t unexpected? They play 100,000+ hours of football in their career- to play in an old firm game was the ultimate achievement for a lot of these players – a story to tell for the rest of their lives to an eager audience.

The break has been nice hasn’t it, for almost 3 years. Maybe it will be different in a year or two when they are in the Premiership. Fan websites and blogs have become more powerful. They are setting the news agenda half the time rather than responding to it. I think everyone is super vigilant now. The Tonev decision-making process really doesn’t bode well however.

Best all round if we leave the Scottish league now. Try get a breakaway league going asap.

Our league doesn’t even have a sponsor – half wits are in charge – what do we have to lose? Make concrete proposals to the Feyenoords, Red Bulls, etc. Form the world’s number 1 league,,show some ambition. I want us to win CL again before i croak.

  2. Regarding bringing ex Celtic players with views. I don’t agree with.

If we only allowed posters with views I agreed with, totally, then I’d be talking to myself all day everyday.

  3. Captain Beefheart on

Certainly not Neganon. However we should be careful not to equate Scotland’s sectarian problems to the far more serious problems which black people faced in the US. Frankly we look ridiculous otherwise.

  4. A Ceiler Gonof Rust on

TGBS, you are probably correct in you’re response to my 23.24 post. I just don’t understand what the players, ex players, management and custodians of Celtic see as the attraction in having this vile outfit who have caused us so much grief anywhere near Celtic.

We’ve had a chance to cut loose from them and the “old firm badge” but every current and ex Celt has tried their damn hardest to keep this myth going. I’ve been to enough “old firm” games to last me a lifetime. I never want to go to a reincarnation of one.

I’m getting a bit sick of it.

    Thanks again.

If I may, I would like to offer my experience of CQN from decades ago….

I was in the Celtic end of a now deid clubs stadium for a day of music culminating in the Simple Minds. It was the beginning of a love affair with Mike Scott’s music (which was the highlight for me that day). Anyways, between support bands three young fellas wander over the pitch and perform a series of dances and acrobatic tricks for our end of the ground. They were lauded and applauded. So much so that hundreds on the pitch swarmed over and joined them… They, well some of them, continued along the same entertainment lines, but to less effect.

My friends and I realized that in the crowds we lost sight of our original entertaining trio….

Then out by the corner flag we saw them again in splendid isolation…

That was a hint about the power of the internet that was!!! We just didnae realize at the time….

    Winning Captains 2346-

Its your call who you use to sell books.

I am entitled to my opinion – that there is an inconsistency in calling Rangers cheats, in calling the MSM and its journalism lazy, in saying we are all better off without Rangers, all whilst using ex-players to sell books carrying the CQN badge when these ex-players use the platform of the MSM and its lazy journalism to say how much we all miss Rangers.

I have expressed this opinion politely, without namecalling and without denigrating the achievements of any of these ex-players (and managers).

Bear in mind the crux of my argument – the real losers of Rangers cheating are the fans who paid money and spent time in good faith following Celtic home and away to watch games of football that were bent by Rangers and their cheating. This is not dogma as you put it, this is honest hard-working people being robbed of money and time that they`ll never get back, wasted on a charade that was bent.

The current incarnation of Rangers are still cheating, employing players they can`t afford to try and get an advantage over their rivals.

But we are told just to ignore this and it`ll all be better for Scottish football when they are challenging for trophies again. I think not.

Our ex-players are to be respected for what they did for the club in their heyday. But so are our fans who invested all that time and money to watch a bent sport. Without fans football is nothing.

  10. Hate to see ex Celts working for the MSM.Hated Caesar and BBJ working for the Sun,a rag who,s laptop loyalists went out of their way to demonise our previous manager,to such an extent IMO hampered his job prospects when heading South.Rembering Everton fans lambasting Kenwright for even thinking about interviewing him after Moyes left. All because of an unfair public image of him ,created by,amongst others but predominately ,by the Sun.

The Bauer corporation are no different from the rags,ET,DR and Sun.They play the demographics game, and it saddens me when ex Celts take their coin and join in with lies and garbage constantly on offer. If you go on their show and tell the truth as to what actually happened, you will not be there very long.Hence you won’t be hearing Tommy Boyds voice on SSB anytime soon.

It sickened me ,when,RD who had just arrived got a constant kicking off MacAvennie, just the kinda stuff that keeps you in a shift up in North Avenue.

    Where do you begin ?

Cowiebhoy / Doc . The suggested break and adjusted season. Perfect.

    Joe Miller.

Ex players will always regard playing the huns ,especially beating them as important and to the overall benefit of the game with sell out crowds TV etc.

Having had a taste of life without them after financing a bent sport for a decade or

so I miss them like the toothache.

    Fans think differently from players.

    Scotland needs a strong Celtic?

    Armageddon without Celtic?

No sponsorship without Celtic in the top league………..aye ok?

Without Celtic Scottish football will die?

No, neither do I. The sooner the huns find their level in the lower leagues or die off completely then we can all get on with focussing on Celtic without this constant sideshow.

I’d love to see a hun free Scottish football environment. Then again, it wouldn’t be first time I’ve been branded as being mad.

Much as I dislike “them” there is no way that they would stop me loving Celtic. You make your own decisions – as you say you are entitled.

  14. PS. In case anyone doesn’t know. I want the FOD to be gone forever ASAP. And forever. It’s been great to take my wee Bhoy (and I don’t mean doc, Weefra or an tearmann) to the football in their absence.

I don’t remember any of that back in the bad old 90’s either mate. But, probably like you and others, I remember the eagerness with which the huns gloated and wanted us to die. Now the boot’s on the other foot and I’m loving every minute of their pain.

Does this mean there will never be huns in Scottish football? No – I think there will always be huns and a hun team for them to support. I’ happy with their baws in a mangle for the time being.

Natknow, I’m under no illusion that there will always be a hun team for their right wing uber followers to support, but as long we, and I mean supporters (and guys like Turnbul Hutton) keep our foot on their close to death throat, that’s as good as I expect to see in my lifetime. I’m not seeing enough of that from Celtic, in fact I’m not seeing any of it.
