Midweek change for Celtic

Busy article today, watch out for notes at the bottom on:

Magners ticket competition for 27 December
Mary’s Meals Malawi school kitchen appeal
CQN Annual, final few posting days before…..
CQN Christmas Raffle – winners have been drawn

One of the resources Ronny Deila has been short of since taking over is training days.  Players have stamina, fitness and speed training work to do every week, while there’s rest time before and after games, so time to work on technical aspects are a premium.

Believe it or not, this is the first midweek Celtic haven’t had a game, or players away on international duty, since the second week of July.  The manager has spoken of how difficult it has been to carry out the extensive tactical changes he has introduced spending only stolen minutes working on them.  The January break will give him another opportunity to spend hours with the players on tactical work.

Apparently newco are keeping McCoist as some kind of blubber human shield for Monday’s AGM!  Nice one.  There’s nothing degrading about that, very classy in fact.  Really disappointed for Ally, I’m sure he could almost taste the £400k he’s counting on – to go quietly.  Let’s hope he puts on a show on Monday and they sort him out thereafter.

It’s almost worth buying a newco share to get along on Monday.  Almost.

It’s been a while since I’ve paid any attention to the man who’s apparently lined-up to replace McCoist next week, Billy Davies.  After his interesting second stint at Nottingham Forest ended earlier this year, The Guardian wrote:

“[Davies] has paid the price for failing to control a personality which latterly seemed to have crossed the border into downright paranoia.

“[He] could never quite escape his self-destructive insecurities.”

It’s not often you read a national newspaper liberally speculating on the mental health, or lack thereof, of an individual.

Failing to control his personality, downright paranoia, self-destructive insecurities!  He’s perfect.  Is there a job in the land this guy is more suited for than newco’s manager?

Our pals at Magners have kindly offered a pair of premium seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand at the home game on 27 December in support of our Mary’s Meals appeal.  You can win the tickets by email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com the answer to the question:

Who do Celtic play on 27 December?

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight (Thursday) so get your entry in.

If you’re entering the competition please consider donating £1 to Mary’s Meals here, where we are hoping to build a kitchen at a school in Chibwata, Dowa, Malawi, for their 909 children.

I’d a look at John Guidetti’s interview with Magners this week, he looks like he’s enjoying himself……..

We’ve drawn the CQN Christmas Raffle, winner of the Special Whisky and CQN Package is ticket number 976, from a lucky reader based in Lythm, we’ll be in touch.

The four runners up all win CQN Packages with ticket numbers 1072, 974, 1190 and 1051, check your tickets, we’ll be in touch soon.

Still time to order your 2015 CQN Annual for Christmas.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – oh, and there’s tons of photos, fresh stories and comment on the first time Inter faced the green and white hoops.

  1. I remember when MoN first arrived at CP he publicly talked up the team then known as Rangers, and said they were the benchmark team, would be hard to beat etc

Privately Martin told his dressing room a different story – don’t believe the stuff I say in the press, we can stuff them etc.

It has since been reported that at the famous 6:2 game, after Martin game his team talk, he privately said to a member of Celtic’s board that we would stuff them & we did .

I have no idea what DD meant when he eulogised about Rangers, but, I have seen enough spin doctoring to not be surprised if he was genuine in his words or merely playing a game.

  2. Just had a wee nip of a lovely Yamasaki malt whisky – nectar!!

That’s me on the acgr banned list :))

I have mentioned it several times now, that Airdrieonians were able to apply to register under that name because a previous club of that name had undergone liquidation and, with the process being completed after 11 or 12 years, there was no legal impediment to them doing so.

Exactly!. Regarding DD It was from here I read about the strategy of when DD knew Deadco were spending beyond their means, that we spent on MON and his budget more than was comfortable to push them over the edge. Look how that panned out :-)

As regards the recent statement from DD, this will only encourage them to think they can feel the same superiority they once artificially held. They live for it.

So, encourage them to flood money into Newcastle Mick’s pocket and the dodge contracts or even start up a third team. Either way we know we’re one hundred and twenty odd years ahead. Let them think what they want. Don’t get me wrong I’d love to hear the full truth in the press and media, but we won’t get that, so we may aswell take the p*ss and I think DD was doing just that.

  8. Oh yeah and the other reason The Great Desmondo said what he did was NOT because he was given his honest opinion, he said what he did because he knew that if he told the truth innocent Celtic fans would be murdered by marauding huns incandescent with anger because of what he has said.

He was thinking of us, that’s the only reason why he said what he did.

Oh and Santa’s very busy at the moment getting his sleigh ready.

Five good things that happened today:

    1. Leigh Griffith offering to by xmas pressies for a mini hun who was robbed.

    2. Leigh Griffith scoring two goals in a Celtic victory.

    3. Sipsini finally coming to terms with his sexuality and realising nobody on CQN cares that he’s gay.

    4. Ally McCoist, just because he is.

    5. The Bulgarian FA standing right behind Alex Tonev.

    A good day all round.

  10. Not long back from Spin Class in the Gym, and one of our regulars was sporting the Red 32 top. I didn’t feel the warmth when I enquired why he was not wearing the ‘semi-final top’!

The ‘back of the bus’ comments really do my head in. Victimhood crap.

Celtic aren’t victims anymore. Thanks to honest endeavours – unlike others, we had no choice – we have established ourselves as the most important club in Scotland (not a great title but…).

We now have prestigious figures on our board, appreciate them. The alternative would be much worse.

  13. the glorious balance sheet on

Joe Miller commented in February 2014 on how Scottish football needed a Celtic-Rangers Scottish Cup Final, how it would “be the perfect thing, a boost for everybody”, how it could “give Scottish football a wee boost”

But how were we ever to know he was one of the many ex-Celtic player Sevco-phants?

By jove, we`d need a crystal ball for that!

  14. Abbot of Clonmacnois on

Tom English has succeeded in provoking Celtic fans about the Tonev case on Twitter and using the reactions to tweet some more and provoke some more. Genius right out of the Hugh Keevins school of lazy journalism that was the basis of this haven of a news source.

He reeled me in tonight with his analysis that Celtic ‘s manager and players supporting Tonev without evidence is somehow weaker than the Aberdeen manager supporting Logan without evidence and much weaker than the hearing Chair Lord Bonomy deciding Tonev is guilty in spite of no evidence because of his credentials.

Fair enough and very clever Hugh, sorry, Tom. Keep up the good work.

I’ve been looking forward to your forensic work on the eminent Lord Nimmo Smith’s guilty-but-no-sporting-advantage verdict on Rangers multi-year registration offences.

    Is it soon?

Captain Beefheart, as much as I think you’re a bit of a fud I do agree with your “back of the bus” comment.

You could have embellished it somewhat by adding: grimmond mccrummoch, the bored, happy clappers and mineshafters and yon big ginger bird wi the huge diddies.

In fact scratch her from the list she’s A Ok.

I never want to see that strange abnormal hybrid lot play at Celtic Park (or anywhere else). I have to say that I don’t know how the finances are but the crowds at games aren’t great. I know there are different factors involved but I would like to see positive views and solutions offered to address this – that did not involve those noisy feckwit neighbours who moved in to that dilapidated home from hell.
