Midweek change for Celtic

Busy article today, watch out for notes at the bottom on:

Magners ticket competition for 27 December
Mary’s Meals Malawi school kitchen appeal
CQN Annual, final few posting days before…..
CQN Christmas Raffle – winners have been drawn

One of the resources Ronny Deila has been short of since taking over is training days.  Players have stamina, fitness and speed training work to do every week, while there’s rest time before and after games, so time to work on technical aspects are a premium.

Believe it or not, this is the first midweek Celtic haven’t had a game, or players away on international duty, since the second week of July.  The manager has spoken of how difficult it has been to carry out the extensive tactical changes he has introduced spending only stolen minutes working on them.  The January break will give him another opportunity to spend hours with the players on tactical work.

Apparently newco are keeping McCoist as some kind of blubber human shield for Monday’s AGM!  Nice one.  There’s nothing degrading about that, very classy in fact.  Really disappointed for Ally, I’m sure he could almost taste the £400k he’s counting on – to go quietly.  Let’s hope he puts on a show on Monday and they sort him out thereafter.

It’s almost worth buying a newco share to get along on Monday.  Almost.

It’s been a while since I’ve paid any attention to the man who’s apparently lined-up to replace McCoist next week, Billy Davies.  After his interesting second stint at Nottingham Forest ended earlier this year, The Guardian wrote:

“[Davies] has paid the price for failing to control a personality which latterly seemed to have crossed the border into downright paranoia.

“[He] could never quite escape his self-destructive insecurities.”

It’s not often you read a national newspaper liberally speculating on the mental health, or lack thereof, of an individual.

Failing to control his personality, downright paranoia, self-destructive insecurities!  He’s perfect.  Is there a job in the land this guy is more suited for than newco’s manager?

Our pals at Magners have kindly offered a pair of premium seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand at the home game on 27 December in support of our Mary’s Meals appeal.  You can win the tickets by email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com the answer to the question:

Who do Celtic play on 27 December?

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight (Thursday) so get your entry in.

If you’re entering the competition please consider donating £1 to Mary’s Meals here, where we are hoping to build a kitchen at a school in Chibwata, Dowa, Malawi, for their 909 children.

I’d a look at John Guidetti’s interview with Magners this week, he looks like he’s enjoying himself……..

We’ve drawn the CQN Christmas Raffle, winner of the Special Whisky and CQN Package is ticket number 976, from a lucky reader based in Lythm, we’ll be in touch.

The four runners up all win CQN Packages with ticket numbers 1072, 974, 1190 and 1051, check your tickets, we’ll be in touch soon.

Still time to order your 2015 CQN Annual for Christmas.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – oh, and there’s tons of photos, fresh stories and comment on the first time Inter faced the green and white hoops.

I haven’t personally spoken with any ex Celtic ( or for that matter current ) player that’s played against them, but I can understand their mindset, having been involved in the games and the league battles with them, they see it differently from me and you. I know an ex players son and he says his da is also of the opinion that he canny wait for them to get in the top tier.

I would not take timing as an indicator of inconsistency. At any point in time it might appear so. At the end of the day the apparent inconsistency will not matter.

It’s the end of the day that is frustrating and I understand that. I’m as frustrating by the pace of Res12 as you are but have you tried pushing a glacier?

Infinite patience produces immediate results. That puts time and timing in its place.

You did not answer both my and Winning Captain’s main question.

How is he expected to see into the future?

Instead, you just repeated the ridiculous charge.

  5. Auldheid..see thats deep…about the concept of cheating..and how as they see it…do they know its cheating, and just chance their arm…or do they know its cheating and dont care…or do they think its not cheating , as in it is their right…..

From the same fella who made the patience comment.

“You get treated in life the way you teach people to treat you.”

The huns have known that for years,it’s why they have got away with things for so long.

  7. owen,

I don’t think anyone is portraying the Celtic board as being a bad apple, more a case of sitting on the fence when it comes to sevco?

    Back to the darts. HH

  8. Bloody Norah, I took the Dug oot, and debate opens up

Joe Miller, was challenged at the Greenock Night oot by our very own Lionsroar67, on his comments and views about Craigy Whyte and Charles Greens team, as put out in media

Joe gave a very good response, which we may not agree with, but Joe responded with Truth and Honesty about how he gets to keep his gig on Clyde (not hard to work oot), pointedly stating they are given notice of any legal challenges if saying something, if I mind right

On Leigh Griffiths playing for Development team tonight, this topic was also spoken about very frankly by Wullie McStay, and how the SFA have made a major mess of this set up, and are having to back track without admitting to it

Development squad being held back, and now 5 over age players can play in such, to bring the younger players on and support their development

    Now

Is Doc, got a hot line to Marc Guidi – we spoke on way home from game at weekend, about how the SPFL should down weekend after last Champions League or Europa league group games, so mid Dec, re-starting for Feb, a 6 week shutdown

League should be started in July, getting our clubs ready for all European qualifiers, so altering season, with winter break, and more games in better weather

Anyway, I heard Marc Guidi mention same on Clyde (it’s on car radio as I drive home from work)

    Thoughts on this ?

    Hail Hail

DD used the term ‘great history’.

I’d have liked him to expand on that.

Would that great history include fostering sectarianism for a century, and every deplorable spin-off which has affected Scottish society in the process?

Or perhaps the modern era when the mocking of one million famine victims was their club fans’ banter.

Perhaps DD had also overlooked the fact that his club and investment was cheated out of a major wad, anywhere between 20 and 50m by that, erm, ‘fantastic football club’.

  10. Tsoal

I seen it a while ago and for the life of me dont know where , sorry being a technophobe is pish , needing everybody else’s help.

It looks like Roy chubbies love chid auditioning for the X factor , a big X at that .;))

  11. The glorious balance sheet

I am sorry but that just doesn’t stand up. Joe made some comment tonight we worked with him three or four weeks ago. How can you rope CQN into that?

  12. pedrocaravanachio67

I’ve spoken to two current players who have expressed the opinion that they miss ‘Rangers’.

I’ve heard several ex Celts, including Aiden McGeady who suffered vitriolic abuse from their supporters, say that Scottish football misses them.

I too can understand where they’re coming from, as professional sportsmen, while completely disagreeing with their opinions.

  13. pedrocaravanachio67 on

    HT

Yip, I think we’re agreeing here.

Anyway, you lettin the weans bring games in ramorra ;-)

  14. BGX

I think they see no wrong in doing what they did.

I’m reminded of the Pharisees of the bible. Know all the rules but nothing of the ethics the rules are based on.

It’s like explaining charity to a Merchant Banker a la Monty Python.

Then you have two traditions at play. One where wrongdoing can be addressed by contrition and absolution – making it easier to admit guilt, and the other where ( I’ve been told) absolution is not a part.

In such a scenario what can you do but deny any wrongdoing took place?

To tribalise it you get Tims saying admit you did wrong, show contrition and we can forgive you and you get Proddys saying there is no forgiveness/absolution so we deny any wrong doing took place.

    Clash of traditions.

  15. Joe Miller is happy to do a Q&A on CQN. The glorious balance sheet – if you tell me when you are available I can arrange. Or if you can see into the future you’ll already know when it happened and what he said!

  16. Pedro

Oh aye, FIFA here we go!!!!!

I’m lying I’m happier with Connect 4 and a box of soft centres :-)

    Auldheid 2220-

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate all of the work that you and others have put into Resolution 12 but it is hard to comprehend why it takes our club so long to investigate alleged malpractice that cost our club millions of pounds. Would Sony be so slow in investigating alleged malpractice from Microsoft that cost it money? I doubt it.

    Tom McLaughlin 2222-

Joe Miller`s views on Rangers were not formed tonight nor were they articulated on SSB for the first time tonight.

“Ridiculous charge”? – I haven`t been levelling any charges. What I have said – it is inconsistent that a site that decries lazy journalism, that maintains Rangers cheated, that rightly criticises the MSM, uses ex-players who are regulars on the MSM circuit who “miss Rangers” to sell books.

No charges, for I am not a policeman. Just an observation from a Celtic fan who spent a fortune attending bent football matches, trying to get his head around why the return of such bent football matches appears to be so cherished among former players and the PLC board (cf Dermot Desmond`s comments on Rangers as cited on here tonight).

You can take off your cloak of indignation now.

  21. The Glorious Balance Sheet

It is indeed hard to comprehend and I’m hoping that one of the outcomes of Res12 will be an answer to that question and it will be asked.

Res12 has two core aims. Accountability and transparency. Getting SFA to respond will meet the first. Getting Celtic to respond the second.

Setting Free The Bears………………….Those were some very fine goat photo’s you posted earlier. I didn’t see any price details or information on how much “mileage” they had on the clock etc…….and that’s good.

We have an organisation up here that was set up when the new huns were sneaked into division III and were playing Brechin, Motrose, Forfar and Arbroath. The AGPL, or Angus Goat Protection League ensured that when the hun hoard were in our area no goat was bothered by the goat bothering brotherhood.

Please desist from encouraging such bothering of our local ruminants.

    Thanks in advance.

I don’t think Guidi actually mentioned summer football, what he actually said was, it would be good to go to games where people wore short sleeves…..I took it, that he was angling for freebies from Ashley for Newcastle tickets !!

Gouged my eyes out wi the last one…

  25. Marrakesh Express on

I guarantee that not one present or ex hun player, ex manager, director or owner would be allowed to say via any media source that ‘Celtic are missed’ and ‘we need them back’ or ‘they are a great club’.

No way, after cheating their club out of trophies and millions, we’d be consigned to the gutter for eternity, and by order.

The statements from some of our own, eg Bonner, McAvennie and Sutton, smacks too much of back of the bus for me.

  26. Auldheid & HT

The problem it also made sense to Doc, that was the worrying thing – roaster :-)

6 week winter shutdown from mid Dec to Feb, players getting 3 weeks off, then 3 weeks training again prior to season re-starting ( Yes I know weather in Feb is still Dodgy )

Then finish season mid May, players off for a 3 weeks to a month, and back mid June for 2 or 3 weeks fitness and back playing

Incidentally a club like Celtic could be taking players wifes & Kids on pre season June trip ? Players shouldn’t require much intense fitness work to get back to speed

    Hail Hail
