Midweek change for Celtic

940

Busy article today, watch out for notes at the bottom on:

Magners ticket competition for 27 December
Mary’s Meals Malawi school kitchen appeal
CQN Annual, final few posting days before…..
CQN Christmas Raffle – winners have been drawn

One of the resources Ronny Deila has been short of since taking over is training days.  Players have stamina, fitness and speed training work to do every week, while there’s rest time before and after games, so time to work on technical aspects are a premium.

Believe it or not, this is the first midweek Celtic haven’t had a game, or players away on international duty, since the second week of July.  The manager has spoken of how difficult it has been to carry out the extensive tactical changes he has introduced spending only stolen minutes working on them.  The January break will give him another opportunity to spend hours with the players on tactical work.

Apparently newco are keeping McCoist as some kind of blubber human shield for Monday’s AGM!  Nice one.  There’s nothing degrading about that, very classy in fact.  Really disappointed for Ally, I’m sure he could almost taste the £400k he’s counting on – to go quietly.  Let’s hope he puts on a show on Monday and they sort him out thereafter.

It’s almost worth buying a newco share to get along on Monday.  Almost.

It’s been a while since I’ve paid any attention to the man who’s apparently lined-up to replace McCoist next week, Billy Davies.  After his interesting second stint at Nottingham Forest ended earlier this year, The Guardian wrote:

“[Davies] has paid the price for failing to control a personality which latterly seemed to have crossed the border into downright paranoia.

“[He] could never quite escape his self-destructive insecurities.”

It’s not often you read a national newspaper liberally speculating on the mental health, or lack thereof, of an individual.

Failing to control his personality, downright paranoia, self-destructive insecurities!  He’s perfect.  Is there a job in the land this guy is more suited for than newco’s manager?

Our pals at Magners have kindly offered a pair of premium seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand at the home game on 27 December in support of our Mary’s Meals appeal.  You can win the tickets by email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com the answer to the question:

Who do Celtic play on 27 December?

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight (Thursday) so get your entry in.

If you’re entering the competition please consider donating £1 to Mary’s Meals here, where we are hoping to build a kitchen at a school in Chibwata, Dowa, Malawi, for their 909 children.

I’d a look at John Guidetti’s interview with Magners this week, he looks like he’s enjoying himself……..

We’ve drawn the CQN Christmas Raffle, winner of the Special Whisky and CQN Package is ticket number 976, from a lucky reader based in Lythm, we’ll be in touch.

The four runners up all win CQN Packages with ticket numbers 1072, 974, 1190 and 1051, check your tickets, we’ll be in touch soon.

Still time to order your 2015 CQN Annual for Christmas.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – oh, and there’s tons of photos, fresh stories and comment on the first time Inter faced the green and white hoops.

I just spoke to an experienced club administrator and member of the SFA judicial “taxi rank” apropos Ashley, TRFC and the SFA.

He said that the only sanctions that could be put on the club were a fine or points deduction.

    The latter unlikely he said.

I think the culture at Ibrox is to see out your contract.

Don’t envisage any arrivals – loans or otherwise – in January. I think Salary was told as much, and this is why he is wobbling away.

Apologies, mate. I’ve fallen victim to usurious overseas call-charges myself.

It was in a good cause, and the money wasn’t grudged to that cause.

But it sure was grudged to the money-grabbing phone company!!!!

New Year, catch that beer! Have a good one, bud. And a fine Christmas with your own.

Not got a scooby doo, once Christmas is over, I will get the accommodation sorted.

  8. Lying on the sunbed in LanZarote I come here every year at this time, and I log into cqn to read up on what’s happening. But I’m sure I travelled backwards 2/3 years. It’s the same old same old. It looks to me as though keeping the pot boiling is more important than doing s

Ditto mate, maybe just a tad early but I wish you the same and likewise every single being on earth too. People who value life anyway.

I’ll see you most likely in Reading soon.

We could start a Reading clique.

  10. Sevco don’t pay their fines so the point of fining them is……..?

Deduct them 10 points and give them a week to answer the charges against them and pay the £250k. If they don’t, the points deduction stands and will be increased if the money isn’t paid within a fixed time period.

  12. Newcastle United got £79.5M in combined tv and prize money last year. The previous year they made £10M profit on £50M prize and tv money after finishing 16th – their 3rd year of profit in a row. I don’t think it’s stretching it too much to suggest that with a £23M spend in transfers – their profit might be close to £20M for last season and Mike Ashley could have paid back about 1/3 of his £129M interest free loan. It looks like on those figures he’s got them running at break even for finishing last.

If Mike Ashley is intent on making money from a football team, then Newcastle presents a far better opportunity for doing so.

I can do the numbers again if you want, but Ashley would need to go £30M in the hole before even sniffing CL money from RIFC. It also involves a model where you can’t break even from SPL money alone, looking at Newcastle that doesn’t seem to be his method. I’ll state it again, my view is that he either runs at break even with minimal input and takes his few million merch profits each year or he’s not interested in them as a team he just wants hold of the assets to control them when somebody else comes in.

    “Shame on them.”

The point being – it’s not just Celtic that are happy taking dodgy money.

In reality, there is not one major club that turns down iffy money. That’s the world we live in.

Indeed ——–The Resurrection Shufflers are proof of how diseased the game in Scotland is allowed to be.

  17. Tinytim

But it is my strong opinion that Ashley is not here to play games.

He will brush aside the token SFA resistance to his control.

When he gets a buyer for Newcastle ,he will increase his control, and they will be as well funded ( if not better) than Celtic.

It is wishful to think otherwise.

    ###############

At last someone on the same song sheet as myself . I posted when Ashley joined up with them it was a sad day for celtic fans . This guy is worth 3.7 billion , and unlike the money men at celtic park , is prepared to spend , and he won’t need to spend a fraction of what he pumps into Newcastle to rule the roost up here , he will meet no resistance . No one accrues that sort of wealth unless they know how to run a business . In time when it finally dawns on them , all the laughing from the celtic bhoys on here will stop . There is a club for Ashley to get involved with , because they were allowed to get away with all their corruption , with the help of football HQ in scotland . And the other clubs , and they’re fans celtic very much included who apart from pumping they’re gums did NOWT. As I’ve said often I hope I’m wrong , but I don’t think I am . TIN HAT ON .

I would as well. But we are not football clubs.

Major football clubs have no scruples at all. Money has completely ruined football. That is unlikely to ever change.
