I know we had nothing up front, but Odsonne Edouard has looked more of a passenger in some games this season than Patryk Klimala and Moi Elyounoussi this afternoon. The game was lost elsewhere.
Newco’s shape allowed them to dominate space whenever we had possession. They were able to swiftly double up on Jeremie Frimpong and Diego Laxalt when the ball went wide, while they were compact enough in the middle of the field to keep Celtic from penetrating their final third.
Games are won and lost on mistakes and yet again we are talking about the defensive line at set pieces. Connor Goldson’s ploy of standing offsite in the hope that a defender would break the line and play him on, was not subtle, but it was effective. It was an excellent cross from the free kick (which wasn’t a free kick, but no excuses), Duffy was an enabler and Valarie Barkas could have done better. Questions remain for both.
Culpability was less clear at the second goal, which was well worked. With so many Celtic players in the box, you would expect one to get in the way of the drilled cross, but it fell to Goldson; teams who create chances get these breaks. It was a deserved goal (again, no excuses, but the handball!).
The last time we dominated Newco was two years ago in a 1-0 win at Celtic Park when Olivier Ntcham controlled the game and scored the winner. Stephen Gerrard learned from that day as Olivier has not had a sniff against them since.
Being ineffective up front and shaky at the back are worries enough, but the biggest concern is that we were unable to do anything to change the flow of the game. An inability to control the any part of the game is more worrying than poor defending or not attacking. It is more worrying than the result.

I might raise some ire by saying this but a bit of Ronny Deila’s professional approach and Brendan Rodgers control of his playing staff are managerial qualities we could do with right now.
Liking Ntcham doesn;t mean I have to hate Scott. He’s a victim of an undefined role in the midlfield as much as everyone else.

ntcham is the best midfielder in scotland and will go on to higher levels than most of the other players in the country can ever dream of
but he was hung out in the right today because brown and calum were picked to play central
thats the managers decision

think of the players you would definitely have in their best positions in the starting 11 and then build the team around that
instead of thinking you cant leave certain players out so have to put square pegs in round holes to accomodate
Whilst I’ve been critical of our board in the past, there can be little doubt the manager has been well backed of late.
I don’t believe any change at board level will make a difference in the short term.
We need to maximise the resources at out disposal. We have the best squad in the league, IMO

Not winning the league this year will do a lot more damage than not doing the ten. We’ll go into next year with Ajer, Christie, Eddie & Ntcham moving on. We’ll likely see Laxalt, Duffy and Moi move on.
We’ll have a major rebuild with very limited funds. The hun will be two qualifying rounds away from £30 million.
Lose the league this year and the generation of domination is lost

Looks like something is seriously wrong in our camp, as today’s opponents beat us pretty easily.
It’s a big job trying to fix things but areas I would focus on are
1 Complacency. It is disappointing when you see Griif and Ajeti aren’t fit to start but players had last weekend off.
2. The manager has a very inexperienced coaching team. JK has been around a while but he has almost no experience outside Celtic, whilst Gavin Strachan came from Peterborough
3. A lot of the managers strengths come from his energy which is often a reaction to supportive fans and hostile opposition fans.
4. The tactics are non existent, a couple of times we hit opposition on the break and looked dangerous
5. The summer signings, except Ajeti aren’t contributing.. The keeper has yet to make a big save, and Duffy looks like a more experienced version of Kevin McKenna.
A couple of last ones, I am not sure the manager believes in himself, his confidence looks low.
On Friday morning I would have a new contract ready for Ajer. If he plays as he has recently he will get taken apart, but hopefully realise he is 2+years away from a first team role in Seria .

The main question for now is can Lenny go to the well with the players and ask them to go again after such a demoralising defeat. Can he get another big run out of them up to Christmas. In just a few days he will have a host of players to choose from. There is more than enough talent and experience in that dressing room to get it sorted. The buck stops with Neil. He isn’t a quitter but if he looks around the dressing room and cant get them going he needs to have chat with Peter.
Watched a bit of City v Arsenal. High tempo, energetic football.

If we lose the league — and after today we are in a bad place — what happens next?
Will the happy clappers / the board lovers / the NL apologists offer any sort of response?
Will the PL placemen / the DD supporters / the BOD astroturf feel any sort of shame?
We are second rate from the car park attendant to the coaching staff.
However for too many this was not an issue even as we collapsed as a football side.
When will we get change and what will bring the happy clappers onboard?
Today has been a long time in coming.

The board made their decision when they didn’t back Brendan after the invincible season, imo of course.
All they did was count the money that BR brought into the club instead of spending a fair chunk of it to keep us miles ahead domestically and a possible force in europe, he walked cos of the lack of backing, had he done what many on here keep saying he would struggle to work again, the football world is a closed shop and the folks who are at the top are in total control, DD is many things but stupid and gullible he is not, BR walked with the blessing of the board and a nice wee £9 mill bonus that should have been invested in another top coach, I said so at the time so it’s nothing to do with todays result.
They need the competition, end of, again IMO.

Neil should go back to basics and build the team around the best players. Eddy is the main man, he doesn’t want to play up top v 3 or 4 hammer throwers. The spark this team needs is Eddy up top with Griff or Ajeti. Let the no9 take the hits and give Eddy a free role.
