Most scouted player in years, new keeper, Balzers wreaking havoc

755

A big Celtic welcome to our new goalkeeper, Logan Bailly, who joined from Belgian side Leuven yesterday, and to Nadir Ciftci, who was confirmed a Celtic player this morning, Ronny’s third and fourth signing of the summer.  And it’s only 9 July!

Craig Gordon will be difficult to shift as Celtic’s first choice keeper but Celtic rested him regularly last season, his first back in action after three years recuperating, so Logan will expect a chance to shine and stake his claim.

Nadir Ciftci should be expecting the most difficult preseason of his career.  The weeks ahead will be an intense step up from what he was used to at Dundee United, but if he responds he stands an excellent chance of leading the line on the third Champions League qualifying round, should Celtic overcome Icelanders Stjarnan.  Next week’s second round game might come too soon.

Ciftci’s every move, kick, pass and, erm…. disputed event, has been watched by Celtic for months.  They know as much about the player as it’s possible to know without actually employing him.  They will also have had the opportunity to take references from Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.  In short, if we have another Pukki-Balde-Scepovic on our hands, we have more acute problems than simply another striker who didn’t work out.

For this reason, I’m sure Ciftci will deliver what’s expected of him.

Delighted to hear former Fifa executive committee member Chuck Blazer has been banned for life by the game’s governing body.  Blazer ‘came to a favourable arrangement’ (I think that’s the appropriate phrase on these occasions) with US prosecutors when convicted of tax evasion, money laundering and bribery.

Unfortunately, Fifa’s structure, which gives the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands and Comoros more combined voting power than Germany and Spain, encourages corrupt patronage to thrive.  The money flushing through tiny countries in order to ‘develop the game’ ensures wealthy people are created, given powerful positions, from where they can be relied upon to vote the ‘right’ way.

Still, at least no one with Blazer’s rap sheet would be allowed to exploit the patronage to hand out blazers in order to wreak havoc on a vulnerable Scottish club (laughs away to himself for weeks).

    Dear Mr Ron Bacardi

It is with regret that I must advise you that your application for the position as Keeper of the Celtic Records has been unsuccessful following background checks on your academic record.

May I wish you every success with finding a suitable position in future.

Bobby Murdoch, Michael never got punished for the elbow and if my memory serves me well, Miller reacted in a Lafferty/ Naismith/ Boydiechenko manner which didn’t impress the ref.

Michael’s performance in the 1980 final as Centre Half was his best for us.

Big Derek fae Dundee hardly got a touch of the ball as Michael was in his face very quickly.

Glad it was Miller. When he was manager at St Mirren he took training most days with his Rangers Tammy on.

When my friend who played for St Mirren at the time, and had played for Celtic, turned up one day with a Celtic Tammy on, Miller fined him. True story and he had to pay the fine. So knowing M.C. cracked him one has brightened my day.

Ron, I had a guy working beside me for 4 weeks on a work placement scheme organised by the Jobcentre.

He had good qualifications but since losing his job working in a research laboratory at Glasgow University has had to do any job going including zero hours contract jobs.

He was required to still sign on even he was placed in a work placement scheme by his ‘job coach’ at the Jobcentre he signed on at.

Every lunchtime he was on the computer applying for jobs and updating his CV so he could prove he was looking for work. He did this so his Jobseekers Allowance would not be sanctioned being reduced by 10 to 20% for a minimum of one week and at worst indefinitely.

You have your opinion about people claiming benefits which is fair enough but not all fall into the categories you mentioned.

I have seen first hand how soul destroying it can be …

I never planned on practicing law. the plan was to article at my firm, and then to get my call, and then work in the ethics field. Thought I had a great ethics job lined up, so told the firm I articled at that I didn’t want to stay …. then, at the last minute, the ethics job fell through.

At the time, ethics jobs were few and far between …. (they are much more common today), so I spent months looking for something… but didn’t have any money, so had to sign up …. eventually, I had to take a job with a law firm…

but, that period of not working/collecting benefits while I was looking was probably the hardest, most soul destroying period of my life…. the feeling of getting up each day, and having no place to go was awful. I am sure there are some bad ones that abuse the system, but I cant believe that most people would choose not to work … I cant think of anything worse for someone’s self worth than a dad (or mum) and not being able to provide for their kids, and I dont think many people genuinely choose that life.

later, I did some work with homeless people for a while … a lot of sad, often sick/broken people for sure… but everyone of them would have cut off their right arm for the chance of a decent job and a place of their own … the system fails these people more than the other way ’round.

I was out working today and didn’t see much tele. How do these Tax Credits work if you are on a Zero Hour Contract?

It might say £9 an hour, but what if you have no idea, what hours you will get?

Sorry probably a daft question… It all seems to assume a 35 hour week.

Do people have to go into the Social Welfare if they don’t get the hours and make a claim?

Ziggy, the first time I saw Norrie Fulton, going by his name and girth, I thought he was a sticky bun.

It was only after Stevie played for us , I found out the family were Celtic fans.

The day Chris Morris scored at Ibrox , in the first five minutes, I was at our reserve game at Celtic Park. Norrie was sitting a few rows behind me and let out an a huge roar when Chris scored our goal at Ibrox.

I didn’t got to the first team game as I was still traumatised after them beating us by four the previous August.

Ron, there are people claiming benefits who shouldn’t be but I don’t find them as annoying as people and companies who can afford to pay tax and do as much as possible to evade paying it.

In my opinion, they cost countries more than those claiming benefits and are among those jumping on the benefit claimants are are it mantra.

Jimmynotpaul, I hope you are well.

My brother-in-law is a long standing St Mirren season ticket holder.

He mentioned that story to me also about Alex Miller.

Miller used to stay in Garscaddeen Road in Old Drumchapel when he was a player at Ibrox, right across from the Peel pub. It was known locally as the Orange Peel if you get my drift.

  32. Dallas, people and companies who do best not to pay tax are justified, folk who abuse the benefits system are not.
