Most scouted player in years, new keeper, Balzers wreaking havoc

755

A big Celtic welcome to our new goalkeeper, Logan Bailly, who joined from Belgian side Leuven yesterday, and to Nadir Ciftci, who was confirmed a Celtic player this morning, Ronny’s third and fourth signing of the summer.  And it’s only 9 July!

Craig Gordon will be difficult to shift as Celtic’s first choice keeper but Celtic rested him regularly last season, his first back in action after three years recuperating, so Logan will expect a chance to shine and stake his claim.

Nadir Ciftci should be expecting the most difficult preseason of his career.  The weeks ahead will be an intense step up from what he was used to at Dundee United, but if he responds he stands an excellent chance of leading the line on the third Champions League qualifying round, should Celtic overcome Icelanders Stjarnan.  Next week’s second round game might come too soon.

Ciftci’s every move, kick, pass and, erm…. disputed event, has been watched by Celtic for months.  They know as much about the player as it’s possible to know without actually employing him.  They will also have had the opportunity to take references from Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.  In short, if we have another Pukki-Balde-Scepovic on our hands, we have more acute problems than simply another striker who didn’t work out.

For this reason, I’m sure Ciftci will deliver what’s expected of him.

Delighted to hear former Fifa executive committee member Chuck Blazer has been banned for life by the game’s governing body.  Blazer ‘came to a favourable arrangement’ (I think that’s the appropriate phrase on these occasions) with US prosecutors when convicted of tax evasion, money laundering and bribery.

Unfortunately, Fifa’s structure, which gives the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands and Comoros more combined voting power than Germany and Spain, encourages corrupt patronage to thrive.  The money flushing through tiny countries in order to ‘develop the game’ ensures wealthy people are created, given powerful positions, from where they can be relied upon to vote the ‘right’ way.

Still, at least no one with Blazer’s rap sheet would be allowed to exploit the patronage to hand out blazers in order to wreak havoc on a vulnerable Scottish club (laughs away to himself for weeks).

Leigh seems able to score from positions and angles where other players can`t.One of reasons for my early dismissal of Ronny as a coach was his failure to play Leigh on a regular basis.

Leigh often strikes the ball low and hard to the far corner. His level of accuracy is high.

He also has great heading ability.

Hopefully we can see how he performs at a higher level.

  3. The so called Ulster Scots who indulge in supremacist symbolism, laughingly dressed up as their cultural heritage, display ignorance and intolerance towards others as some warped badge of honour.

Mostly poor and ill educated they fail to comprehend that their outdated , anachronistic and intransigent belief system only serves to hinder their own community’s progress and shames them before the wider world.

Hard to understand the psyche of people who would fly a swastika next to a Union Jack but this sort of entrenched mentality is borne out of fear and ignorance .

Loyalists see all the old certainties of God,Queen,Ulster and societal dominance over a downtrodden Catholic populace being swept away by not only demographics but multiculturalism .

Hence a ‘no surrender’ mentality prevails among both the Ulster loyalists and their Scottish Klan counterparts. What a charming alliance that is !

Unfortunately most of these bigoted views are so ingrained in the average loyalist’s brain that I don’t see any cultural sea change in their beliefs anytime soon.

Perhaps the fact that the main Establishment vehicle for both Ulster and Scottish sectarianism died circa 2012 ,in the vicinity of Edmiston Drive ,might serve to temper their bigotry . Probably not though as rumour has it that a new pseudo RFC has been spawned into existence. Same old bigots, new club !

Thankfully the influence of these Neanderthals is on the wane and they really have become an irrelevance and a laughing stock. Hopefully future generations will witness the eradication of these drum beating, sash wearing buffoons. “

Brilliant! Sadly, their influence is not on the wane and we are just about to endure the 11th Night ‘celebrations’.

Its going to be a big test! Looking forward to it. Looking at potential opponents i feel we will no doubt make at least the playoff.

We have a superior squad to last year and made it that far.

A lot of more reliable media suggesting vvd off if we qualify, with a bid of 8m being enough for the club

Young guy who lives in Southport complaining about the Orange Order trashing his town every year on the 12th, the locals detest them.

All the shops get shut down, he says scousers come to town and get hammered from first thing, says you can actually smell the urine as you approach the town as these dregs of society use the streets and shop/house doors as their toilets. Really angry he cannot drive through, or enjoy his weekend in his own home town.

Irish symbology is woven into our club emblem and there is an Irish element the club’s DNA, it’s there and for that reason there’ll always be that connection. There will be aspects of it that won’t appeal to some and that’s understandable but each of has the right to put forward our thoughts.

Guidetti is not doing his footballing reputation much good as he hawks himself around Europe. He is a good player but not a great player but some club will be daft enough to agree to his wage demands. H.H.

  18. North British oil is just one part of the economy of westerminster. Scotland has never had much more than a smidgen on of that revenue. NZ economy is very reliant on dairy, used to be sheep. The Whiskey industry in Scotland is bigger than nz milk. The price of Brent is a red herring. Either control your own destiny or let the bankers of westerminster do it to you. The choice was made and you makes your bed. Never say never . Who is guid yeti .

  19. Guidetti notched up a goal after 78 mins of European games.

Excluding the Reykjavik minnows, Leigh Griffiths has played 275 mins in Europe – no goals, no assists.

Still, if it helps to brag about a guy that does it against Motherwell, Kilmarnock et al., knock yourselves out.

Anyone who feels the Irish connection is unappealing surely can`t support Celtic.

That`s not what I was referring to,as I`m sure you know.

  24. Guidetti was our fourth placed striker in a one up front team. Flatters to deceive. Good luck to the lad but no better than Pukki or Balde. At least Cifti doesn’t have the baggage if costing much. This time next year we might have a Cifti compilation. I like Griffith , he is hungry and has an eye for goal, clearly improved as the season went on and this one he will have something to prove in Europe. Hail hail.

  25. Praise where it’s due – we needed a striker for European games, replacing Matthews (one of the worst European performers) made a lot of sense, and we obviously needed a defender after the departure of Denayer.

Celtic have done all 3 – well done, Ronny.

The question is will they settle in time for these crucial qualifiers, but that’s mostly out of Ronny’s hands.

I don’t like the current style of football, but I very much hope we qualify for at least the EL – no European football and a slough of meaningless SPFL games would be a bleak prospect.

You can see why so many play down Celtics achievement in winning the SPL.

Our other top sides struggle and fail against the lowest standard of European football.

It will be a surprise for me if Celtic qualify for the champions league.

    Even considering our favourable seeding.
