Most scouted player in years, new keeper, Balzers wreaking havoc

755

A big Celtic welcome to our new goalkeeper, Logan Bailly, who joined from Belgian side Leuven yesterday, and to Nadir Ciftci, who was confirmed a Celtic player this morning, Ronny’s third and fourth signing of the summer.  And it’s only 9 July!

Craig Gordon will be difficult to shift as Celtic’s first choice keeper but Celtic rested him regularly last season, his first back in action after three years recuperating, so Logan will expect a chance to shine and stake his claim.

Nadir Ciftci should be expecting the most difficult preseason of his career.  The weeks ahead will be an intense step up from what he was used to at Dundee United, but if he responds he stands an excellent chance of leading the line on the third Champions League qualifying round, should Celtic overcome Icelanders Stjarnan.  Next week’s second round game might come too soon.

Ciftci’s every move, kick, pass and, erm…. disputed event, has been watched by Celtic for months.  They know as much about the player as it’s possible to know without actually employing him.  They will also have had the opportunity to take references from Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.  In short, if we have another Pukki-Balde-Scepovic on our hands, we have more acute problems than simply another striker who didn’t work out.

For this reason, I’m sure Ciftci will deliver what’s expected of him.

Delighted to hear former Fifa executive committee member Chuck Blazer has been banned for life by the game’s governing body.  Blazer ‘came to a favourable arrangement’ (I think that’s the appropriate phrase on these occasions) with US prosecutors when convicted of tax evasion, money laundering and bribery.

Unfortunately, Fifa’s structure, which gives the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands and Comoros more combined voting power than Germany and Spain, encourages corrupt patronage to thrive.  The money flushing through tiny countries in order to ‘develop the game’ ensures wealthy people are created, given powerful positions, from where they can be relied upon to vote the ‘right’ way.

Still, at least no one with Blazer’s rap sheet would be allowed to exploit the patronage to hand out blazers in order to wreak havoc on a vulnerable Scottish club (laughs away to himself for weeks).

    No bother if you can’t.

Charlie is a good defensive full back. Good passer, height, delivery, decent positioning – just not got the pace to burn for an attacking full back.

He’s a good option if we are up against it and playing conservatively.

Clogher Celt: whilst you are ‘on’ ,I have a vivid,to me, recollection of my Dad taking us on our first visit to Dublin(about 51 or52) to ‘Shake hands with a Crusader for luck’ which turned out to be a skeleton in an underground vault and not only could you ‘shake hands’ you could ‘Lift up his chest ‘skin’ ‘ as well. I was 11 or 12 .Was there such a place ?

Bobby Murdoch, that’s very generous of you, as usual.

I already have the LP version of Money’s Too Tight to mention.

The LP is hibernating somewhere in our room.

My wife is always at me to get rid of stuff I have kept from my younger days and it might be bad for my health if I take in any more stuff.

Thank you for your very kind offer but I’m sure someone like South of Tunis would love to have that if he doesn’t already own it.

  5. Cosy Corner bhoy,

Sorry I haven’t heard of that, I will make a call in the morning.

It does sound like a Dublin thing, maybe Almore knows.

I will find out and let you know.

    I hope you are well.

Black label beer, as you will know, was a popular beverage throughout the “British commonwealth” and should be a surprise to neither of us that the commercial featuring the Merry ploughboy has been airbrushed from history.

Aye mate, the newfies are a lot of fun and know how to enjoy themselves but your relatives will tell you of the orangeism which unfortunately, still persists there.

The world is changing though :-)

Sydneytim, I hope you and the family are well.

I’m going to the game tomorrow with you old neigbhour in Westbourne.

I hope we are now in a better place with regard to our squad for next season’s challenges.

When Lustig is in the team, we are a better side.

I could quite believe Chris White sold tickets above face value to some of our fans.

We had the Celtic Pools shop on West Nile Street, next to the now closed Crocketts the Ironmonger. I always found it strange we couldn’t buy tickets at the Pools office but had to go round the corner to Desmond White’s company office to hand over our cash.

Good night all and sleep well.

To our Southern Hemisphere posters , enjoy the rest of the day.

See the Mulgrew love in is in full flow tonight.

If Mulgrew starts our final round CL qualifier (assuming we get that far) at CB if VVD leaves, or beside Broon in MF, we are in big trouble.

He is completely pedestrian in both thought and movement, and IMHO has no readily identifiable position in Deila’s formation.

Does nobody remember the qualifier at Helsingborg? He played at CB when in as good form as he ever has been in and got an absolute roasting.

His performance at Legia Warsaw was frankly one of the most inept displays I have ever seen from a Celtic player in 47 years man and Bhoy. He would never have worn the Hoops again had I anything to do with it. You would have wondered whether he was trying to get the manager sacked…….

I often think that some on here think that a player being “a Celtic man” entitles them to a place in the team, irrespective of ability.

Never mind a 4-year deal. Get rid. His pal Lenny can have him.

I vividly recall getting tickets from the Pools office in W Nile St in mid-late 1970s. Before then they were sold from Lumley’s in Sauchiehall St.

What a twat. Take your scripted level 5 bile elsewhere.

Your attitude towards the sick, disabled and unemployed is a disgrace. If you are a Labour Party member, it’s hardly surprising they were all but wiped out in the last election.

  15. Can’t see Charlie M playing any significant role into the future.

His stunning free kicks and corners of a couple of years back are now notable by their absence. His top speed is trundle. And he’ll turn anything up to 359 degrees just so’s not to have to use his right foot.

I must admit to knowing about as much about our new striker as I know about our new goalie. So forgive me if I don’t opine on Ciftci other than to say I hope he is better than some of our recent front signings. I’ve only seen him at our home games at CP over the past couple of seasons, and we’ve generally pumped UTD rotten.

Ronny rates him, Jackie Mac raves about him, he’s a young guy and he’s got a chance to make a mark in one of the world’s iconic football teams. I hope he grasps the chance and shines in the hoops.

Finally got my seat sorted out today after a marathon fiasco with the Celtic ticketing Stasi. Got a great seat in 405 and I asked specifically if it was within pie throwing range of Hamilton Tim. The wee lassie on the phone stuttered, paused and asked how far I could throw a pie.

Totally stumped me she did. That opened up a whole new physics debate I wasn’t prepared for.

After considering the mass of a Celtic pie, my average energy coefficient, average air density in the Greater Glasgow area and Newton’s three laws I concluded I still cant throw a pie and accurately hit HT’s napper cos I don’t know where he sits.

    Physics is exciting.

    Not knowing much about Football.

In our market we have bought a young lad from Manchester City, a young lad from Manchester United a goalkeeper from Belguim and a striker from Dundee United.

Along with everyone else, I have my doubts. One lad was at Bolton last year, why didn’t NFL sign him? I have no idea.

The lad from Dundee United when he settles will be good in Scotland. Ronny has seen him. If he can settle down into the Celtic way he could make it. I hope Armstrong and MacKay Stevens will help him.

If the other mob had signed these lads we would have never of heard the end of it.

Anyway, wishing them all the best.
