Most scouted player in years, new keeper, Balzers wreaking havoc

755

A big Celtic welcome to our new goalkeeper, Logan Bailly, who joined from Belgian side Leuven yesterday, and to Nadir Ciftci, who was confirmed a Celtic player this morning, Ronny’s third and fourth signing of the summer.  And it’s only 9 July!

Craig Gordon will be difficult to shift as Celtic’s first choice keeper but Celtic rested him regularly last season, his first back in action after three years recuperating, so Logan will expect a chance to shine and stake his claim.

Nadir Ciftci should be expecting the most difficult preseason of his career.  The weeks ahead will be an intense step up from what he was used to at Dundee United, but if he responds he stands an excellent chance of leading the line on the third Champions League qualifying round, should Celtic overcome Icelanders Stjarnan.  Next week’s second round game might come too soon.

Ciftci’s every move, kick, pass and, erm…. disputed event, has been watched by Celtic for months.  They know as much about the player as it’s possible to know without actually employing him.  They will also have had the opportunity to take references from Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.  In short, if we have another Pukki-Balde-Scepovic on our hands, we have more acute problems than simply another striker who didn’t work out.

For this reason, I’m sure Ciftci will deliver what’s expected of him.

Delighted to hear former Fifa executive committee member Chuck Blazer has been banned for life by the game’s governing body.  Blazer ‘came to a favourable arrangement’ (I think that’s the appropriate phrase on these occasions) with US prosecutors when convicted of tax evasion, money laundering and bribery.

Unfortunately, Fifa’s structure, which gives the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands and Comoros more combined voting power than Germany and Spain, encourages corrupt patronage to thrive.  The money flushing through tiny countries in order to ‘develop the game’ ensures wealthy people are created, given powerful positions, from where they can be relied upon to vote the ‘right’ way.

Still, at least no one with Blazer’s rap sheet would be allowed to exploit the patronage to hand out blazers in order to wreak havoc on a vulnerable Scottish club (laughs away to himself for weeks).

  1. celtic have been guilty for inconsistency in European football, don’t think anyone can deny that nor should we, while the rest have been shocking for the most part with some decent results thrown in, alone the way, St Johnston did reasonably well last year, united the year before that, but neither got to the group stages.

hibs, hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee united let themselves down by not qualifying for European football on a regular basis even though they have far greater resources than our provincial clubs. I always want Scottish teams to do well (bar one but they’re deed) in the European arena. A good run in the Europa league i.e. group stage is worth about 4 or 5 million over the next three years.

If Aberdeen got into a position to access that type of money I think we would see a more competitive league. Aberdeen, Hibs, hearts and/or Dundee united are the clubs that need to have a look at themselves and we also need to look at ourselves

    1) why do clubs with a fraction of our clubs income continually put us to shame?

    2) how do we prepare our teams better for early starts in European football?

    3) how do we make sure clubs have as much resources as possible to assist them?

    4) how do we make our domestic game more competitive and entertaining

    summer football

finish league 3 weeks earlier/ start 3 weeks sooner for 2 season (6 weeks more preparation) but remain roughly in sink with other European clubs

increase size of league playing each other 2 x per season rather than a minimum of 4

Add to points for score draw

distribute television more towards clubs that qualify for European football

create European play-off with all income going to winner of last spot available

more relegation and playoff for 4 or 3 from premier league

or just keep walking blindly into oblivion and complain about everything going against us?

Delaney’s, Desmond White’s Accountancy company’s office in Bath Street also doubled as Celtic’s offices at one point.

The entrance was between where the Blue Lagoon chippy is now and Ol Sole Mio restaurant.

I paid for and collected my ground season ticket, one year, at White’s office in Bath Street.

CM did well at CH then right enough but we were set up completely differently . Many times last season we would only have two at the back , the pace of Jason and VVD made this possible . Charlie is too slow.

So many hypocrites, pretending to be Labour voters – one reason to vote for Labour was to insure that the Tories, as they always do, attack the poor.

Of course some benefits must be changed – those who won’t work, cannot continue to ‘ponce’ on everyone else.

Those, and we all know them, who pretend to be disabled, you know the ‘kiddy-on -walking-stick brigade, should not get £30/week more than honest job seekers.

The SNP played political football with the Bedroom Tax, when they could have moved much quicker – it would habe taken only £50 million, when they were sitting on a £200 million – this from the LIARS who say they don’t get enough from Westminster, and yet don’t spend what they get.

Labour have a long and illustrious record of working for the poorest – the SNP have NEVER NEVER done ANYTHING – they can’t even spend the money they have on the people they are supposed to represent.

Saw your post earlier today when you said Ciftci kinda resembled Cantona.

I really believe signing Ciftci is going to pull so much of our play together and help it become as effective and hopefully as exciting to watch as in our Centenary Year and because of that, i have not been able to get another player out of my mind.

Its not because there is a resemblance, or even because they play the same position….i can see(perhaps its wishful thinking)him having a similar influence with us now as a certain Billy Stark did then.
