Most scouted player in years, new keeper, Balzers wreaking havoc

755

A big Celtic welcome to our new goalkeeper, Logan Bailly, who joined from Belgian side Leuven yesterday, and to Nadir Ciftci, who was confirmed a Celtic player this morning, Ronny’s third and fourth signing of the summer.  And it’s only 9 July!

Craig Gordon will be difficult to shift as Celtic’s first choice keeper but Celtic rested him regularly last season, his first back in action after three years recuperating, so Logan will expect a chance to shine and stake his claim.

Nadir Ciftci should be expecting the most difficult preseason of his career.  The weeks ahead will be an intense step up from what he was used to at Dundee United, but if he responds he stands an excellent chance of leading the line on the third Champions League qualifying round, should Celtic overcome Icelanders Stjarnan.  Next week’s second round game might come too soon.

Ciftci’s every move, kick, pass and, erm…. disputed event, has been watched by Celtic for months.  They know as much about the player as it’s possible to know without actually employing him.  They will also have had the opportunity to take references from Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong.  In short, if we have another Pukki-Balde-Scepovic on our hands, we have more acute problems than simply another striker who didn’t work out.

For this reason, I’m sure Ciftci will deliver what’s expected of him.

Delighted to hear former Fifa executive committee member Chuck Blazer has been banned for life by the game’s governing body.  Blazer ‘came to a favourable arrangement’ (I think that’s the appropriate phrase on these occasions) with US prosecutors when convicted of tax evasion, money laundering and bribery.

Unfortunately, Fifa’s structure, which gives the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands and Comoros more combined voting power than Germany and Spain, encourages corrupt patronage to thrive.  The money flushing through tiny countries in order to ‘develop the game’ ensures wealthy people are created, given powerful positions, from where they can be relied upon to vote the ‘right’ way.

Still, at least no one with Blazer’s rap sheet would be allowed to exploit the patronage to hand out blazers in order to wreak havoc on a vulnerable Scottish club (laughs away to himself for weeks).

  1. Welcome Nadir!

At last! A Celtic striker that disney look as if he’ll need a hair weave anytime soon!

  2. The Dukla Prague game was a friendly for us But Dukla played it as a revenge match for their defeat in 67 and a match that commemorated the death of one of the best Czech players that ever came out of Czechoslovakia who died a couple of weeks ago and also played against us in 67.

well if you just want to check if you are right then tell us the two players you have in mind and we can confirm it very quickly ;-)

  6. All we need now is a 6 foot plus left back who can defend and, when he is in a forward area, cross a decent ball.

Previously if a player with any kind of “issues” arrived at CP, his issues would remain.

However, with a coaching set up comprising of RD,JC, JK and J Mc.G., I believe that any lingering “issues” will be overcome.

  10. You are very close to the mark Philbhoy. It is the one glaring deficiency in our line up.

The rest of the pieces of the jig saw are in place and a glance through the panel shows a very strong squad. Apart from left back, I believe there will have to be a departures before any other signings. All the deadwood has been stripped out except for Derk, there must also be question marks over futures of Stokes, McGregor and McGeouch but I certainly wouldn’t want to lose Forrest unless we got some silly money for him.

Unfortunately without being pessimistic i fear we will never see a better or indeed as good a striker as Henrik.

    ———————

    Sadly, I agree.

The only comfort for me is that , outside the elite top 10 in Europe , most clubs will never have seen a player as good as HK in his prime play for them.

We are privileged to have seen a guy that good stay for as long as he did.

“We are privileged to have seen a guy that good stay for as long as he did.”

When the great man himself was a player at CP we paid him “the going rate”

he stayed with us as you say for a decent length of time and was here for the prime of his career.

If he was here today do you think we would pay him the going rate or would we sell him because it made good sense?

I know it’s only a number but adds to the expectation for the lad would’ve given him the 9

Saw this teaser on twitter earlier, I think I know the answer but have to check if I’m right…

A and B are two footballer who played for club X sometime after 2000.

Both then left: A went to Y and won the leeague, B went to Z and also won the league (Z & Y are rivals)

A and B then reunited at W before A returned to play for club X

A and B have both won the Champions league

    Name A B W X Y Z

    ——

    Is the answer

    A- 75mph

B- the trains pass at 5:25

    C- Crewe.
