  1. My friends in Celtic,

The blog needs unorthodox posters that think outside the ” normal” box. But big, sulky mark McGhee for manager is a pushing credibility a touch too far.

We are indeed fortunate to have a clever manager, who gets us and can think outside of the ” normal ” football box. And he is lucky which is his biggest asset , that you frankly have or do not have.

A couple of thoughts if I may :-

I am really looking forward to the Man City game. A game we cannot really lose, no matter the score.

I am sooooooo impressed by the external presentation of our stadium. The Celtic way is truely magnificent, especially at this time of year. The contrast to years ago is simply breathtaking. Subsequently, my Christmas ask to PL et al is to encourage as many of our supporters to join in the match day experience as possible.

Use some of our surplus cash to slash, yes completely slash ticket prices at home ( We have no control of away fixtures ). Use the German model on pricing and open our club to all. Not just the relatively affluent who can afford ST’s ( individual match tickets ) at present.

Yes I am aware that ST’s have been reduced or frozen but be bold. Ability to pay must be our prime concern. To recoup some income, increase, yes increase hospitality packages and executive ticketing. ( Many companies recoup this expense anyway )

By doing this, which is financially feasible, given the money we will receive this season , we really open our club to all our supporters.

With our manager, our team, our progress, our aspirations ,our infrastructure our next priority must be to enhance the match day experience for the masses and aim for complete sell outs for the foreseeable future.

I was trying to check back my earliest memory of watching Celtic. The first one I remember being at was Cathkin park December 62, Thirds 2 Celtic 0. Do you or any of the other 40s babies recall this match? I think it was the day a tragedy was avoided when the Celtic fans, leaving early, were met with closed gates, and luckily an exit gave way. I remember the torrential rain and the packed crowd which would’ve been about 35k.

I am a tad too young for that,my first game was 2-1 v Aberdeen in Oct 67.

Aye,I was too young for summat else anaw!

But on the subject of closed its,I recall Love St,about 83.

Those are very steep terraces, and even steeper on the way down. The terraces also funnel into the exits. That creates a crush of bodies, but fortunately they have huge exit gates.

On this occasion,it was locked. And it was bedlam, cos the people above were merrily walking down the stairs, not realising there was no way out,and people were getting crushed.

    Cops nowhere to be seen.

I dunno how they did it,but some guys at the front burst the padlock. Had they not done so,disnae bear thinking about.

Even worse than the NE end turnstiles at the 85 final. Only time I’ve gone into a game and walked out the other end-I had my lass with me at the time and she was petrified. She never went back either.

Had to watch it in The International!

  6. BRTH et al,

Fair play for your comments. The concern is I suppose that for possibly very valid reason the lack of clarity from the PLC can be seen as a lack of commitment and leaves a dangerous vacuum where all kinds of supposition can develop.

Anyway, thanks for your hard work.

John Boyle O’Reilly ,Fenian escapee from Fremantle Prison, in 1869 became a famous poet, writer and newspaper editor in the US. He was a good friend of Michael Davitt. In 1888 published a book called ‘The Ethics of Boxing and Manly Sport.’ It was well known at the time.

I often wonder if the founding fathers of our club were aware of it. I suspect they were.

Slashing single ticket prices for the 2nd half of the season really would be a good thing to do , if it allows our less well off supporters to attend a match sometime.

The free tickets to season book holders initiative , for the Hamilton and Partick game is good, it helps.

I listened into John Paul on the Homebhoys podcast.

Informative, without saying a lot , and I would say very balanced between the needs of the support and the practicalities of running the business.

I was disappointed however there will be no half season books as JPT states “we are sold out”.

This obviously is not the case as we have average attendance of 55,000 ish. So 5,000 available seats each home game, apart from ring fencing a “2nd rangers allocation”.

So we did have the opportunity to have half season tickets , sell them minus the sevco game.

    Its only 10 fixtures.

Not like us to miss an oppor-chancity

  8. Great to see Stuart Armstrong have a five star performance on Saturday and run the game if he can keep up that level of performance maybe our need for a central midfielder will go down a notch in the January window.

I hold my hand up Stuart and apologise to you, a few months ago I had written you off.

In that,I pretty much agree. I think they made a very bad decision four-plus years ago,and know that they have significant culpability.

But I do think that Res 12 has given them an opportunity to cut the balls off the SFA. And in fairness, they also seem to-perhaps reluctantly-be stepping up to the plate.

  10. 2. BROGAN ROGAN TREVINO AND HOGAN on 5TH DECEMBER 2016 7:30 AM

    Good Morning Kil Ultra.

I agree completely that whatever your point of view it should be taken off line and I repeat that I have offered you an e-mail address on several occasions to write to me with whatever it is you have to say. By all means drop me a line.

I have no intention of contacting Peter Lawwell to request sight of any letter. Nor do I suspect that Mr Lawwell is going to show anyone a letter which is marked as private and confidential. Imagine he did that, would he not be criticised right left and centre for breaking a trust and breaching a confidence. He will rightly take the view that if something is marked confidential to him then it should stay confidential.

I doubt very much he will make the content known to me in such circumstances. I repeat he has not contacted me or had anyone else contact me regarding the content of any letter.

BRTH. That’s easily solved. If you want, I’ll email his office and ask them to give you a copy. There is no data protection, confidential or other privacy issues; there are no other names mentioned in the letter.

With regard to Michael Nicholson, can I reiterate that many years ago he was on the other side of a court case where his firm represented a client. He is only one of thousands of lawyers my own firm dealt with in similar situations over a period of at least two decades. I have corresponded with many many solicitors, advocates, accountants, surveyors etc over a prolonged period but I don’t know them all well or have any great knowledge of them personally. I am not conscious of meeting him during that period but it is certainly possible, however he is not someone whom at that time I knew well, socialised with or would instantly recognise even.

I had no idea he had left Harper McLeod to become the Company Secretary of Celtic PLC (I didn’t even know he was a Celtic fan) until we met at Celtic Park and I would have had no dealings or communications with him for well over a decade at the time of his appointment. Accordingly, I have no idea what is being suggested about my ever having known of him as it was completely unconnected to any matters to do with Res 12 or my being asked by others to go with Morrissey to that first meeting.

You’re saying that during the eight months of your diligent work for Celtic Charities, acknowledged by a name-check on two successive Celtic plc Annual Reports, you weren’t aware that Michael Nicholson was the Celtic Secretary.

I have never worked for Celtic in any paid or unpaid capacity, nor am I aware of being name checked in any annual reports to do with the foundation. If I have been it will only have been as a volunteer who helps raise funds.

You have been name-checked at least twice. I’m puzzled why you don’t know that. Maybe it’s because you do so much good work that such acknowledgements are of minor importance.

Any business dealings between the foundation and the PLC are conducted by foundation staff and the PLC and does not involve me or any of the others who help out at avrious events.

I have no knowledge of any position which would conflict with the interests of Celtic PLC or its shareholders, especially those who support Res 12.

KU, I can only tell you about what shares I hold and have held, I don’t know about the others and I genuinely don’t see it as my business. The Company Secretary can, and I believe, did check who holds shares and verified that the resolution was backed by the appropriate number of bona fide shareholders.

    That is his job.

‘That is his job’!!! I’m still waiting for a reply to a letter I sent on October 29. A request for shareholder information I was forced to make because the answer, yes or no to a simple question was not forthcoming. And still isn’t. And I’m being asked to trust you(s), ffs.

Beyond that, I can’t really say very much and I am as much in the dark as I was before.

What I can say is that I do not represent you as an individual and never have done. I don’t know your name, your status as a shareholder or anything about you. I have never claimed to represent any individual shareholder not even any group of shareholders for that matter.

I was asked to bring whatever intelligence I had in support of Res 12 and to find a way to advance the aims of the resolution once it had been agreed to adjourn it from the original AGM, and to help find a way to hold the SFA/UEFA to account.

That is it. End of story.

If you want to put anything else to me, ask any questions, put any counter point of view, criticise the way anything has been handled, praise any aspect or say anything else at all by all means drop me a line or even arrange a meeting the next time you are in Glasgow.

Many thanks for the invitation to Donegal, but I am long overdue a visit to friends and relatives in Churchill and Letterkenny, and the next time I am over it will be to see them as opposed to going to any meeting to talk about Celtic, the SFA or anything else related to football.

Dunno if that takes us any further or not.

You wouldn’t call in even, if I said I lived in Letterkenny or Churchill?? Or you’re assuming that I don’t. Or, in fact, you know fine well where I live.

Oh, well. I had a difficult negotiation with my wife to agree to the invitation-she lives here too. So, at least she’ll be happy you wont be taking it up.

BRTH- I think it’s best if we call it a day. I’ve given you the wherewithal to get my email and address details from any one of the following – Auldheid, Canamalar, Peter Lawwell, Michael Nicholson, James Forrest (who I’ve still to talk to), TSFM moderator, and Uncle Tom Cobley and all.

  11. On non-Celtic events, I posted yesterday about Kris Boyd slagging Ian Cathro’s credentials for the Hearts job as it really annoyed me. Boyd’s argument is so flawed I’m am astounded he could put it into words without realising his mistake.

Anyway, I’ve since found out that Jamie Fullarton was on BBC Scotland at the weekend absolutely panning Cathro, effectively saying he can barely be classed as a coach. This would be the Jamie Fullarton whose defining moment in Scottish football was dislocating his ankle for Dundee United. I checked Fullarton’s credentials as a coach – 69 days in charge of Notts County…That’s it.

So what’s their beef with Cathro? Well clearly the luddites of Scottish football feel threatened by the new breed of coach (new bread when referencing Sevco) who devotes himself to analysing every single detail of matches and, just as importantly, training sessions. Yes, laptops – the horror! – are used to provide you team with the analysis, statistics and information you need. Celtic have two coaches that have this type of background: Glen Driscoll and Chris Davies. Students of the game who employ modern techniques (maybe McGhee’s doesn’t like that type of coach either). The naysayers know that in such an environment they have no place – they just don’t have the brainpower.

If Hearts get Cathro they will be showing willingness to drag their club out of the “kick and rush” dark ages of Scottish football. This is the way forward and has been for some time now, I mean, even Sevco had Stevie the IT guy….

Cheers. I don’t care what Celtic supporting credentials KU has, he has been looking for information like Res12 funders (as well as checking out me with the SFM host who disabused him of the idea I was in anyones pocket) that simply could be used to undermine Res12 or endanger those pursuing it.

On that basis I’ve always been wary of him but within those constraints tried to deal with his questions.

‘as well as checking out me with the SFM host’

Auldheid. Again, you have deliberately tweaked what happened there to suit your own argument. The context of the correspondence I had with the SFM host was when he acknowledged receipt of money I had sent towards its appeal fund. He thanked me and in the course of a long, enjoyable discourse about all things football, he stoutly defended your part in the Res 12 …you’re lucky still have such loyal friends.

    ====%==========

I’m telling you how it came across to me and it seemed to me that my loyal friend went to some length to emphasise that you were wrong about me.

I’m not lucky to have such friends I make them from being as honest with them as I can be. In short they trust me and I trust them. You should try it.

    ========

Your coming across as sweet reason doesn’t wash with me. I don’t forget, it was you who invited me to meet your anonymous donor (Res12 funder), and threatened that he would re-arrange my face, only withdrawing your invitation after I had readily agreed to travel from Donegal and meet with this irate philanthropist.i

    =======

Yes I remember that. I let my anger at your stupidity get the better of me. To ask such a question when Res12 was starting to attract undesireable attention seemed to me to be threatening. Reap what you sow.

When I did mention the matter to him he echoed my feelings.

I am sweet reason normally, but you can take the boy out of the Calton but never the Calton out of the boy.

You have mounted attacks against the persona involved in Res12 for reasons that still mystify. Yet when those attacks are defended you take that as an attack.

If you stop attacking there will be no need to defend will there?

So let’s take this off blog. You have my E mail address.

  27. So,….imagine that,…Res:12 gets right doon tae the wire and then,….

leaks come out about Cellic PLC’s complicity by knowing all along that the fix was in to keep the huns alive, so, the old-firm-orientated Cellic PLC looked the other way and, this was about to be confirmed and made public, right.

So, how many squirrels do ye think that the PLC would release to attempt to get aff the hook ?

I’d say Steven Gerrard would be one squirrel released.

Maybe they’d push the boat oot for – Xavi or, Iniesta(sp) ?

Thing is,….what happens if, Jabba releases information about Cellic PLC complicity just before the ne’erday game in an attempt to wreck Res:11 ?

I can verify in a conversation with Morrissey 2 years ago that he had asked BRTH for his help on Res 12.
