Moussa’s Target Practice Torags, slump must end soon

842

You and I will miss our football this weekend but the winter break came at an excellent time for Celtic. They get to rest after an arduous nine game December on the back of handing Newco a lesson on their own pitch. Having to sit for three weeks, unable to get a defeat out your system, would have been torture.

Celtic have already played 36 competitive games this season (only one against lower league opposition). That’s close to a full league programme concertinaed into a little over five months. Add in the fact that almost the entire squad is involved in some form of international football and you realise the players have been on match duty twice a week since preseason.

This is exceptional and not conducive to delivering top performances. By comparison, Aberdeen have played 30 games (two against lower league teams) and Newco have played 28 (five against lower league sides). That’s eight and 10 times we’ve played two challenging games a week more than our direct opponents – neither of whom are particularly burdened by international football.

The second half of the season will be more balanced. We only have three midweek games scheduled, including our game in hand – so you can be reasonably confident our “slump” will end soon………..

We all remember the days when someone talking about putting in a £20m offer for a Celtic player would be held in a locked room until a deal was signed. We’ve been on a long road since, but the financial stability we’ve earned through many tough years affords us the ability to keep players who have several years to run on their contracts.

As for Moussa, I hear if we can arrange for him to play against the Target Practice Torags every week, he’d extend his contract until 2027.

Really enjoying the dissonance in some places over the anticipated approval of Kouassi Eboue’s work permit. Play by the rules, work inside areas you are allowed to and pay your dues. It’s not difficult.

By now you should be aware of The Road to Lisbon project. 28 cyclists will set off from Celtic Park on 11 May, arriving in Lisbon in time for the 50th anniversary of the Lions’ triumph. It is an immense project which is expected to raise tens of thousands for Celtic FC Foundation, Solving Kids Cancer and Children in Crossfire.

An opportunity exists for corporate sponsorship of the project. If you would like more information, look here, or email, theroadtolisbonmay2017@gmail.com

Brendan goes to people (players) he can trust, personally I think Kolo Toure has been a very good signing, obviously short term because of his age, Brendan like most goes and gets people he knows & trusts …..

Ronny didn’t have that opportunity, although I wouldn’t swap Brendan for any other manager, like any other daft Celtic fan we like people to get us, I don’t want a manager who just wins I love the fact that Brendan is pretty down to earth (but winning helps :-)

How dare you omit golf, whisky and the lovely ex scottish tory leader, the one and only and my personal favorite size 22, Ms A Goldie.

    Buck up yer ideas….:_)

  4. Gerryfaethebrig,

    Definitely.

I think Brendan has been very pleased with the Quality in this Celtic squad. Every player has GIVEN everything this Season and that is fantastic.

In the main it will be first team players being brought in now, I’d imagine. And that is Superb news.

It is Good when you can reject 20Mill bids.

Tontime Tim 1224 : interesting to read your recollections re St. Pats and the catchment area producing a good team. I was at St. Joseph’s High School in Kilmarnock circa mid 50s and there was only one RC school for 4th year upwards in the whole of Ayrshire! We had players in the same team from Largs to Muirkirk and we played in the Glasgow Schools League against such as St Mungo’s , Bellahouston , Govan ( I might have booted AF and didn’t know it!) Shawlands etc…

  9. Major panic tonight

I moved house on Thursday. It was time to move to something a bit smaller as the family is mostly away from home now. But, in all the confusion, my season ticket went missing.

After an extensive search I am pleased to report that it is safety in its drawer and ready for 25th of January.

To be honest I could do with a couple more weeks with no football to attend whilst we sort out the numerous boxes still strewn throughout various rooms .

We brought 2 wardrobes with us to reassemble. Despite taking all the care that we could, both of them needed to be secured to the wall to keep stop them becoming parallelograms.

Gordon 2224: Re Bobby Evans being the only Celtic player in the Scotland team,as I have said previously on here, my Dad always said that he was the Token Tim in the Scotland team because he didn’t ‘go to the chapel’ so it was a win-win situ for the board of selectors! BTW Both my Dad and I thought he was a great player both at right half and later centre half. Not sure but may even been capped in both positions.

Success in Europe,a must for me. After a succession of 9-a-rows and finally succeeding at our fourth attempt.

Hmmm,37 out of the next 40 titles sounds great but I don’t think I can wait that long for European success!

Just about to hit ma kip but before I go can I just wish one of the posters on here all the very best his good lady retired yesterday, and they both taught me at St Ambrose, by the way it’s not me being evasive but said teacher was talking to my sister last night and was reluctant to give his moniker :-)

If they don’t want to give me that role I will settle for scouting for our women’s team.

In fact, that actually sounds even better to me.

I am not comfortable with the suggestion that I am a malcontent in these brilliant Brendan days but if you know your history my dear friend one must be cautious with this Scottish vanguard cancer with their spiritual home at Ibrox. As a Celtic supporter they should be dead and gone. I am not interested in the dead club narrative spouted on here by so many. There should be no affinity for this filth in Scotland as far as I am concerned. But yet here they are and to my extreme disappointment to my dying day I will never understand why it was allowed. You dont like the phrase strangled??? Ok I apologize and will try and ameliorate the imagery..how about decapitate. To me as a Scottish Celtic supporter it is the biggest betrayal ever. i will never get over it. the Celtic PLC sold their walfridness for the bigot buck.
