Mulgrew’s magnificent delivery

1279

I watched Scotland play a more accomplished Wales last night.  No one in blue played particularly well but when Charlie Mulgrew prepared to take a corner from the right in first half stoppage time we knew Wales were in danger.

The pace, low trajectory and movement Charlie gets on the ball negates the natural advantage the defending team has.  The goal had little to do with the young lad who got on the end of the cross, just as Celtic’s remarkable success from corners has little to do with their ability to attack the ball.

The Wee Oscar 4 Life team have asked me to pass on this message:

Wee Oscar 4 Life are delighted to be offering you the chance to win a fantastic and very unique auction prize.

We have been donated a very special bottle of 8 year old Bowmore, which has come straight from the cask. The Whisky is 59.4%, unlike a normal malt whisky which is cut to 40% proof.

The whisky was distilled on 13 March 2001, and bottled on 26 June 2009.  It has been donated by a very kind CQNer. However, not content with already donating 3 bottles from his share of the cask to raise funds for Wee Oscar , we now have his prized possession:

Bottle no 1 of 251.  A very special prize in aid of a very special wee bhoy.

That stuffs for the real drammers ( if such a word exists ) no for a powder puff like me. I tend to drink the liquid face cream, the exiled tim was talking about.

No, no one can be Marxist and Catholic in the same time. Communism, Marxism … come from evil.

    ========================================

A person can certainly share some of Marx’s analysis of the causes of economic injustice and be a Catholic. In fact even the right wing Benedict identified Market Capitalism as a cause of poverty and violence.

Most people who call Marxism evil have never read Marx.

Some people who claimed to be Marxist committed horrific acts, but they were no more Marxist than you. If they were they would not have done what they did.

I am a Catholic. I share much of Marx analysis of the cause of poverty, starvation, deprivation and degredation in this world. You won’t solve it with charity. You’ll solve it by doing what the first Christians did as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles – distributing wealth according to need. St Luke I believe wrote Acts. I wonder would he disagree with Marx’s maxim – from each according to ability, to each according to need?

Marx was a man. He was not perfect. His ideas are not perfect. But his analysis of how Capital operates and the constant crises it creates and the human mysery that comes from it has turned out to be pretty accurate. His analysis of how history would work out perhaps less so, but time will tell on that one.

  3. I have been looking for the sleekit whisperers dive on youtube. I think it was against Aberdeen in a cup game and I think it was at huunpden but I can’t find it anywhere. It seems to have been erased from history, a bit like his old team.

  4. The face cream or the Bowmore?

    Neither.

I like a malt, well the non peaty, smokey ones.

    Not an afficionado,

Had a few nice bottles over Christmas and looking forward to more after Lent.

  7. Probably going to regret this, but true Marxism is based on Christianity.

Which begs the question, why bother with Marxism when one can try and follow the Sermon on the Mount.

Perhaps Marxism was corrupted, in order to make it work, but the Christian message didn’t need to be corrupted.

    Instead, human nature intervened.

Like the way you think…. but if you want to really see their heads explode…. try this..

.If Christianity and marxism can be reconciled (liberation theology), and marx and derrida reconciled (read Michael Ryan on that one)…. how about a post-structuralist christianity? Had thought about that for my doctoral thesis…. pissed of the catholics, the marxists AND and the po-mo’s… lots of fun.

Sorry ernie, three does not (necessarily) follow two, though I agree it is possible. But the opposite could also be true. I am no fan of Alex Salmond, but he has managed to set a date for a referendum. He was also gracious, diplomatic and statesmanlike in welcoming Benedict, and in his reaction to the recent resignation of Cardinal O’Brien, who incidentally I always thought was Scottish. There were three main strands of opposition to Thatcherism in Scotland, the Church of Scotland, the Roman Catholic Church and the Labour Party which provided 25% of the opposition MPs. The yes campaign needs broad support from members of and supporters of these three institutions, one of which has forgotten its’ history. I said on here at the time, possibly in response to yourself, that when the SNP won in Shettleson in 2011, something had changed in Scotland. Enough to win the argument over Independence, no, but enough to at least ask the question.
