Neil Lennon era ends

1817

Neil Lennon ‘got’ Celtic.  He was a rookie appointment, and the early weeks were far from comfortable, a Hampden defeat to Ross County looked like an ominous early sign, but from the start of his first preseason he didn’t look back.

He was a hugely successful Celtic manager in Scotland and in Europe.  The Barcelona team of the last six years, possibly the greatest team in history, were at their peak when they visited Celtic Park in November 2012. Neil came up with the game plan which brought Celtic victory and raised our profile across Europe.

What he had to endure off-field during his time at Celtic was atrocious and a blight on our society.  But he overcame it.  He stuck it out when you or I may have left, and now he leaves on his own terms – an undisputed winner.

More at another time on who next, but if we get a man nearly as capable we will be doing well.

Take care, Neil.

If the crook Oyston managed to steal money out of Blackpool he must have taken it from the TV money deal and parachute money when they were relegated from the Premiership. There is no way that a club like Blackpool generates that money from gates and transfers.

Still begs the same question, I posed to MadMitch and Neg Anon over the years- “Where is the evidence of money being salted away?”

It is one thing to acknowledge that income is being unspent and hoarded. It is another to allege that money is being secreted away. MM suggested Celtic FC is DD’s cash cow. Do you think that is a plausible idea?

Anyone else shout at the TV during reporting Scotland’s report on Lennys resignation?

  3. Good luck to one of our own. NFL took them all on, cheats, liars, shoitebags and gobshoites…he stood tall and proud and overcame them all. Super Sally out must be feckin freezin in his shadow. I hope he goes forward and maintains his great reputation and successful career.

I look forward to another fantastic chapter of Celtic history…

Incidentally whatever became of Wullie McStay?

  4. I see paranoia CFC alive and kicking.

Watch those reds under the bed ernie !

Celtic are where we are. There is limited upside for anyone taking the job. Only failure in missing out on CL.

We will not get a top candidate. We are not more attractive than any mid to low level english championship outfit.

Only those lacking other options and viewing the world through hooped glasses would fancy it.

  5. Lubo's two feet on

I was shocked this morning to hear the news but looking back, this is probably the best time for him to go. If the zombies did make it back then I would hate to think what the environment would be like for Neil and his family. It was bad enough when the oldco was around. When it comes down to it, who would want to subject themselves and their family to all of that again. Just goes to show how committed he was to our club by staying on in the job a couple of years ago. He’s left the club in a better state than it was when he took the it, a success overall with some great memories.

Whether it was his ‘thunderbolt’ against Dunfermline or masterminding that night against Barcelona, he gave his all for Celtic, he is one of us.

    Farewell and God bless.

  6. Got shot down on here for my opinion that Lawell was steering Celtic on a race to the bottom.

Race down to meet ….Sevco …..just keep ahead of them……fleece the mugs…..competition is great.

    Roll up ….Roll up…..

Celtic Plc……as much Smoke and Mirrors than Sevco these days……

Something is ROTTEN at Parkhead at the minute.

Lenny won’t last a year in the EPL…..most managers don’t.

I could manage Celtic to the title…..most people on here could.

I am not exaggerating…..anyone could have this season.

Not an attractive job for anyone with credentials……

What is Owen Coyle’s granny doing these days?

Celtic need out of SPFL pronto or crowds will be circa 20k soon.

I think they deserve enormous credit. It can’t be easy living up to a reputation for being bigoted, foul mouthed anti social scumbags, but to their credit, they do it very well.

STOP SAYING CELTIC SHOULD HAVE WON MORE TREBLES WITH THE ABSENCE OF RANGERS!!!!!!!

  11. Sad that Neil has gone.

Saddened that there are so many utterly negative souls who tear down our Club and seem to hold our executives in utter contempt.

I wonder sometimes why this is.

As for our next manager…..we needed someone like Neil to take the Club out of the ditch that it was in.

What we need now, is something quite different. Not an apprentice, but someone who can use the resources we have to forge further progress in Europe. The SPFL will take care of itself for another 2 or 3 years. If, by the time we have something resembling competition on that front – we can have a team that is winning games every year in Europe……that is what our next step is.

I don’t have names to throw around. The concept, though is appealing. Maybe some seasoned European warhorse.

Whoever it is, he (or she) will get my full backing.

Don’t know whether I’m coming or going all day. Soon as Lenny departure was confirmed this afternoon I downed tools at work.

Terrified as to what’s around the corner to be honest. Our CL qualifiers are in murrayfield, a new manager in charge, absolutely no doubt in my mind that Forster will be gone along with a few others. If we qualify for champions league this year it will be nothin short of a miracle.

But the show must go on. Fingers crossed we get the right man in.
