Neil Lennon era ends

1817

Neil Lennon ‘got’ Celtic.  He was a rookie appointment, and the early weeks were far from comfortable, a Hampden defeat to Ross County looked like an ominous early sign, but from the start of his first preseason he didn’t look back.

He was a hugely successful Celtic manager in Scotland and in Europe.  The Barcelona team of the last six years, possibly the greatest team in history, were at their peak when they visited Celtic Park in November 2012. Neil came up with the game plan which brought Celtic victory and raised our profile across Europe.

What he had to endure off-field during his time at Celtic was atrocious and a blight on our society.  But he overcame it.  He stuck it out when you or I may have left, and now he leaves on his own terms – an undisputed winner.

More at another time on who next, but if we get a man nearly as capable we will be doing well.

Take care, Neil.

    No apologies needed.

I asked for an example of someone using a football club as a cash cow, which was Mad Mitch’s allegation.

There obviously have been instances of crooks like Oyston and Romanov, and a soon-to-be-disgraced Knight of the realm, using clubs to hide and salt money away.

Thanks for the post, will be appreciated…

  4. Thank you NFL for everything you have done for your club, and my club. I had hoped you would stay but it was not to be. Something so Strong, Neil Lennon.

What can we do as Celtic supporters ? Renew our season tickets and get behind the new manager. My own season tickets have just been renewed tonight. Rangers were liquidated. Neil has left. Celtic continues. I’m looking forward to the new season and the CLQ’s.

Feel sorry for those of you who have flounced off and will not be renewing your season tickets. Celtic today is leap years ahead of the club I supported week in and week out in the 90s. That era was something to moan about.

I actually thought you might be about 50-60…..ballpark-ish?

May have struck out on that 1, but that was my impression of you so when you were saying you felt Davie Hay was too old and that you felt 60y.o.max……that kinda surprised me.

I don’t have it though and our ducks ain’t in a row.

Used to shoot a bit stick.

WAS very good and had ambitions to go pro.

The pool team i played with always had a wee saying and a wee dig once any of them beat me and it was……a good auld yin is better than a good young yin.

Maybe they were right after all?

    Nah.

I played auld guys that had been great players and they still were even though they could hardly walk any more.

If someone is good….they are good….regardless of age, creed, colour, gender, etc, etc, etc.

I thought Waddell’s comments were better than those of McGarvey.

Waddell described Lenny achievements as “tremendous” whereas Spiers said “good/maybe very good”.

From your resident Ross County troll…….

Neil Lennon’s resignation isn’t just a case of a new era for Celtic: it also represents a new era for Scottish football.

Neil’s reign oversaw the final days of twenty year’s worth of cheating by the “establishment” club Rangers.

Neil lost his first management year to the financially, (on tick), superior team Rangers. Fair and square on the park – which most of that Rangers team wouldn’t have been on if the bills had being paid.

He then went on to win the next three leagues – while making a decent mark in Europe at the same time. All that with the other big team essentially gone.

The other big team is now gone completely…with the phoenix club starting….slowly.

So now, where is Celtic? In Scottish football?

Please forget the dreaming of other leagues; because that’s what that – a dream.

Same as I dream of winning the lottery – I’ve more chance of dying in a plane crash apparently.

Celtic is a Scottish football club.

    Celtic are Scotland’s biggest team.

Our internatiional team is now below par with the smallest of European teams.

Celtic is now the biggest represenative of Scotland in football terms.

I wish you all the best with finding the best manager available to do…..what?

I enjoy watching football – premier league in Dingwall.

No matter how one may sneer at that – Richie Brittain screaming for more effort from the crowd and his team mates does it for me!

And don’t forget – I’m the one who has bought 2 season tickets, and will continue to buy the same every year – after our chairman voted “No to Newco”.

Doc – if we get the same type of shortlist that led to Mowbray’s appointment, then I’ll be gutted. We need some original thinking.

Still dithering about not renewing, but probably end up shifting seat from 408 (NS Upper) to the ole South Stand…if they let me in! :-)

Off topic but see that wee shitebag Islam feruz has now turned his back on Scotland international team and no longer wishes to be selected.

  22. After watching scotland tonight, I must say Matt Mcglone certainly did speak for me and the way I see things… he also gives me a very strong impression that he knows much, much more than hes letting on.

  23. It won’t be Larsson (too risky). It won’t be Moyes (too expensive and independent-minded).

It might be MacKay. And it might be Clarke (think PL would feel he can control both).

Sadly, it might also be Houston (we have a problem), and Coyle (with his Granny as assistant).

  25. McDowellcelt,

Saw that too. Sad, very sad. A real sign of how football is going… millionaires demanding transfers because they don’t get a Bugatti for their birthday…

  26. Neil announced his departure at a dreadful time.

Had it been at 7am, the delightful Michelle Hussain would have spoken in her lush voice about Celtic.

Had it been a few hours later, the delightful Suzanne Reid would have uttered some sweet nothings about the good ship Celtic.

Had it been the early evening, the charming Nina Hossain would have got us all hot and bothered when speaking about Lenny.

Instead of all that, we got a late morning growler.

    Thanks Lenny.
