Neil Lennon era ends

1817

Neil Lennon ‘got’ Celtic.  He was a rookie appointment, and the early weeks were far from comfortable, a Hampden defeat to Ross County looked like an ominous early sign, but from the start of his first preseason he didn’t look back.

He was a hugely successful Celtic manager in Scotland and in Europe.  The Barcelona team of the last six years, possibly the greatest team in history, were at their peak when they visited Celtic Park in November 2012. Neil came up with the game plan which brought Celtic victory and raised our profile across Europe.

What he had to endure off-field during his time at Celtic was atrocious and a blight on our society.  But he overcame it.  He stuck it out when you or I may have left, and now he leaves on his own terms – an undisputed winner.

More at another time on who next, but if we get a man nearly as capable we will be doing well.

Take care, Neil.

First of all thanks for the memories Neil. You gave me one of the best ever night’s at Celtic Park (Barca) , and one of the best afternoons, ironically on a day we lost the league, the final match of the 2010-11 season against Motherwell.

I have no idea who will have the honour of being our next manager. He will need an extraordinary strength of character. It is no coincidence that our three most successful managers in recent times have been Martin, Gordon and Neil. In their own way hugely single minded and with little care of what either the media or even the fans view is, they have been determined to make their own decisions and to live or die them. The successor will have to be equally strong.

For the job to go to someone who does not know the Scottish media world and how Scottish football and society works he will need a very good `Celtic minded` mentor.

Too soon for Jackie or Paul I fear, not sure about Malky, Lambo would do me but is still in a job. Laudrup and Weighorst I think would be great with Danny and Jk making up the team?

Sorry mate, I must have picked you up wrong. I thought you were wanting an example of an owner taking cash out of a club. I never meant to substantiate a rumour that DD was doing it to Celtic.

By the way did anyone see the interviews with the two lads rescued from the fishing boat of Aberdeenshire. They could have their own show, so canny and hilarious.
