Neil Lennon ‘got’ Celtic. He was a rookie appointment, and the early weeks were far from comfortable, a Hampden defeat to Ross County looked like an ominous early sign, but from the start of his first preseason he didn’t look back.
He was a hugely successful Celtic manager in Scotland and in Europe. The Barcelona team of the last six years, possibly the greatest team in history, were at their peak when they visited Celtic Park in November 2012. Neil came up with the game plan which brought Celtic victory and raised our profile across Europe.
What he had to endure off-field during his time at Celtic was atrocious and a blight on our society. But he overcame it. He stuck it out when you or I may have left, and now he leaves on his own terms – an undisputed winner.
More at another time on who next, but if we get a man nearly as capable we will be doing well.
Take care, Neil.

I wonder if the new manager will like the players the club have already identified.
Who identified and forced the signing off Hooper, Forster and then on the other hand who did what with Balde for instance?
Some folk seem to think that the coach should work with the tools he’s given rather than being able to ask if he could get slightly different and maybe even better tools in his opinion.
Who do you listen to first? Folk like Helena Costa who Neil Lennon had never heard off or Neil Lennon.
Thanks cowiebhoy and doc, I hope ssm has this in hand as £20M +is riding on this. Last year we gambled my concern is that its a downsize exercise waiting for dead teams resurrection! Add in no buys till/if we reach group stages and sales of top players. The consequences in terms of crowds, merchandizing etc will be dire and the ssm will start to feel the heat. Do we have ambition thats the number one question?
Doc & Cowiebhoy, I hadn’t really considered that angle, rebuilding reputations. More of an issue for Moyes I think as most would agree that Tan was a bit rash in getting rid of Malky.
No mentions for Willie McStay?

I’m totally shocked
Hugely sorry to see Neil leaving.
He was a very good manager whose achievements, given the (lack of) spend and sectarian hatred, were remarkable from a manager learning his trade at a big club.
Well done Neil.
Head held high.
We’ll miss you…
Willie McStay was treated shamefully by PL when he left.
Serious question
Has Gary Parker also gone then ?
I personally hope John Park goes, one of the heads of Depts I do not rate
View from my work/buillding/local today in Dublin
Barman said ‘told you so’. I said NFL would take another year.
Doorman(Celtic and StPats fan) says Malky Mackay
My IT guy suggested Wright at StJohnstone.
Several suggested moyes(all liverpool fans)
Drunk guy in pub started on the ‘no rangers, no league’ gig. I have the spiel down to 30s now. No-one really gets scottish footie and life here except celtic fans

Beat me to it.
Lennybhoy, First apologies for not posting earlier re. the most enjoyable day in McCuills. I went to post forgot my password, then posted last night and went back to check some names returned and my comments were no longer there: gave up. Just like to say thanks for your hospitality and for introducing me to many CQners. It was special for me to put faces to posts.
You are no doubt disappointed with the announcement today. All Celtic fans are. A huge thankyou to Neil for putting up with death threats, attacks and a pathetic media.
Tomthetim. I agree with your comments about Jackie McNamara. I see John Collins in the same vein. My choice would be Steve Clark.
Just a thought, I often wondered how the Northern Hemisphere would ever compete with the Southern Hemisphere in rugby. answer was to bring New Zealand, Australian coaches. Like to see a Spanish coach!
STBF Well done with your excellent review . look forward to reading it. Always admired him and Bertie, real Celtic men.
Delaneys Dunky
As I say, I genuinely thought you came across very well.
The scum?
Living up to their image bud, living up to their image………

Ernie, you are one of the most anti Celtic, Celtic Supporters I have ever come across. Our Club is in a good place. If you really believe we can compete with the big boys in Europe, you are in fairyland. We are where we are, like it or lump it. I know I would rather lump it, but we are shackled here. I have no doubt you are an absolute cracking guy, and I would love a beer with you maybe in the future. :-))
Weefra HH praying to WeeOscar.
Paolosboots, we should keep in mind that Johansen and Griffiths were brought in last January, so if we dont recruite we will be better placed than we were last July.
I would like to see more quality brought in, but am not worried.
I don’t know quite how to say/post this but here goes….
The Token Tim, AweNaw, Mags etc,

Does the same principle apply to “left footers?”
I know this may sound frivolous and stupid but I genuinely feel like there has been a death in the family
IMHO
I hope Henke is out of the equation, and the rest of the “favourites” ??? All total failures. Over to you PL. Go on, SURPRISE US. wishfullthinkingcsc

Ye, I was thinking about yourself today and how you would take the news, as your posts never seemed to see it coming.
When Johan walked and some of the statements made, something was in the wind…to be honest, I thought Neil would have stayed another year and then moved.
We move on now and hopefully the board do well by us. Hail Hail
STV now Celtic debate coming on
# 1 criteria – someone who doesn’t take it on the chin!!! an absolute must!
Stupid woman on the telly said Neiil Lennon was at Parkhead for 4 years. Naw he wiznae. He was at Celtic for 4 years!!!

Hail Hail!
Just watched Neil Lennons managerial era on BBC, 3 min video they managed to fit 5 Celtic goals and 8 goals against us, showing every cup tie we lost (yes every cup tie with a goal against us shown in each over 4 years) and the first league title, with a very brief mention of beating Barca
Shocking shocking piece, and an awful ‘tribute’ to Lenny
Glad Neil is out of the goldfish bowl now, and he can deal with some proper press!
Thanks for everything Neil, very good manager and forever a club legend

I was ‘hoping against hope’ that he would stay ….
Anyone else feel like they’re in a kind of limbo?
I dont know wat to do with myself!!
TnT
Was born and raised in a close in Partick, next to a LOL. Was great fun in 1969? I think? When we won a cup against a horrible mob and a brick came through our windae and on top of me. This is a Glasgow bhoy’s first ever memory! Scum then, scum now, scum forever!
