Neil’s back, Anthony’s off

454

Best wishes to Neil Lennon is his new role as Hibernian manager. Without wanting to be impolite about Alan Stubbs, Hibs have traded-up in getting a manager of international repute and experience at the highest level of the game.

Neil is a talented coach who got unlikely results across his Celtic career. He’ll bring Hibs up next season and establish a platform to rebuild the club.

Best wishes too to fellow Irishman Anthony Stokes, who left the club yesterday six years after joining from Hibs. The best of Anthony was there for all to see at the Scottish Cup final. He’s still only 27 and, should he find the appetite, he should still have a few good years in the game. His Celtic ‘thing’ finished years ago.

Celtic legend, Charlie Gallagher, will be signing copies of his autobiography at Waterstons, East Kilbride, this Saturday (11th) from 2pm, and 2pm the following Saturday (18th) at Waterstones, Braehead. Get along to see him!

Good luck to all involved in the Green Brigade Anti-discrimination tournament at James McGrory Park on Saturday. If you’re not in East Kilbride, get along.

Well done for lodging your complaint , my friend . I am about to hit her with my tuppence worth . Every Celt on here and the other blogs should be bombarding the guardians editor , with regards this . Let them know the measure of feeling their decision has caused . And let them know we’re not going away .

    Praecepta,

Macjays interpretation can be taken as correct, however not by his usual reds under the bed target, this was far more sinister and dangerous than political enrtyism this was the death of democracy.

I have to laugh at macjays reds under the bed paranoia especially when you just need to look around the world and see how it’s developed under extreme capitalism, his constant references to Stalin and the 20M murdered, when the empire he is so proud of are/were responsible to 240M murders in the name of freedom and civilisation, an utter clown that should be viewed with contempt for the dangerous lies he spreads.

Sounding more like a govt press office than the Guardian, the paper will not explain further why they pulled the advert.

  12. Any Celtic fans ive spoken to about RES12 look at me in amazement……what we got here they think !!!!……ive yet to meet a fan who knows an itsi bitsi teeny weeny thing about RES12 and these guys are diehards……so from the initial go the fans should have been made aware from the offset what was happening. Now trying to get fans from other clubs kinda makes it more difficult …what with this Celtic and sevco thing. Start spreading the news to fans of other clubs.

  13. I don’t believe that there is any conspiracy surrounding the Guardian’s decision.

Obviously the ad did not fit its profile and should not have been accepted initially. The Guardian has not been bullied by the Masons, nor the SFA, or anyone else for that matter- it is fanciful and risible to believe it has.

Let’s hope that the ad is not now “hawked’ around until someone, somewhere takes it on – that would be embarrassing for all concerned.

Yes of course the issue is important – so also are the EBT tax scandal, the LNS judgement, the illegal side-letters, and player registrations. However the correct way of dealing with these things is the legal route, not a group of well-meaning, and undoubtedly motivated supporters.

The key to a successful and widely accepted outcome is a positive decision of the Supreme Court – all things will flow from that verdict.

I agree it was right for the Resolutioners to ‘flag-up’, this issue – they have been successful in putting it firmly on the agenda. I also support their tee-shirt thing.

Let’s ‘keep our powder dry’, and continue to build a complete case, whilst waiting for the SC outcome.

50,000 Season Ticket holders do not think Res12 is sufficently important to interfere with their ‘deal’ with Celtic – success on the park and quality in the dugout is, as always, the prime mover in their love and wonderful support of our club.

Good luck to Stokesy and Lenny in their new ventures – they will always be spoken as Celts.

  14. “His Celtic ‘thing’ finished years ago” Cough – splutter WTF??. Anto’s Celtic thing ended because our (thankfully EX) out of his depth manager wouldn’t have recognised a proper footballer if he were to fall over one. Our loss is going to be some other teams gain. Lets just hope that his replacement is as talented a footballer as he is.

  19. Listen, if stokes was such a great player, he would be playing elsewhere.

Emotion aside, he was no use, we are looking for someone better.

  20. Oglach, well said. Stokesy deserves a much better write up than this!! Ironically, Paul discusses Lennon and stokes in the same update today. If it wasn’t for stokes wonder goals against killie, Neil’s career would have been totally and utterly different. I think Celtic lacked guile last season and Delia stubbornness starved the fans of stokes quality. Sure, he needs to work on the stamina part of his game but certainly has impact capability.

    Fouls OFF the field

A foul off the field of play will be penailsed with a free kick on the boundary line nearest to where the foul occurred (penalty kick if in offender’s penalty area).

So, when would the penalty area ever be off the field?????

The way I read it Mark Warburton was responding to a missed call from Phil Mac. Didn’t know who he was calling, maybe he thought it was from Reading FC or some other Championship team, and got right back.

  26. Oglach,

Agree—Stokes did more damage in the cup final against Sevco than we managed in the entire semi final. It might not have been in the hoops but it was one of the few highlights last season.

Stokes goes with our best wishes and what might have been —- a bit like Tony Watt.

Under Brendan he would have toed the line and scored 20 plus—-but CL would have struggled. C’est la vie.

  28. Topkat @ 3:50 & Mats Nilloc @ 3:51…

I think it is true to say that many Celtic supporters are unaware of Resolution 12 although I do sense the level of awareness is on the increase.

I also believe that supporters of other Scottish clubs are mostly ignorant of Resolution 12.

Given there is an advertising fund to be spent I wonder what the response would be if a request was made to some or all of these clubs to carry the Resolution 12 advert in their match programme on the opening day of the season.

It would certainly be see the responses.

    Just a thought.

  29. Correction…

It would certainly be….. Interesting to…… see the responses.

Anthony’s an above average footballer with below average consistency. He got the chance to do something all of us would give almost anything for:play for Celtic. And he got that chance after knocking us back previously.

He had his time and will always be regarded as one of our own, just like Lenny.Good luck to both of them.

    Arms importation

The Police Ombudsman’s investigation looked at attempts by Loyalists to import weapons into Northern Ireland in 1985 and the role played by the UDA member and former Army agent, Brian Nelson.

It has confirmed for the first time that a senior member of the UDA, who was also providing information to RUC Special Branch, played a central role in directing Nelson’s efforts, along with “security force oversight”.
