Never change, Dave.

You can tell when a crisis is brewing at Ibrox, the emergence of a spontaneous statement is a sure giveaway.  Far from apologising for using club funds in an ultimately pointless legal defence of Sports Direct’s enforcement of a contract signed last year, chairman, Dave King, reacted to the reality that Newco will complete at least four years of his tenure trophy-less by threatening Sports Direct with further legal action.

This time the action is over a lack of accounting information on the performance of that merchandising contract from a year ago.  It is almost certain that Sports Direct are obliged to provide a sales reports and some form of audit, this would be the basis of any sales-linked bonus payments.

Dave’s court action is likely to be the most expensively purchased accounting report in history.  All this gunboat diplomacy may seem wasteful but some clubs cannot exist without a bogeyman.

Celtic are now in the League Cup Final.  Those inside the club will realise there is a lot of work to do to complete the first leg of the treble treble, but the majority who traipsed out of Hampden on Sunday will consider the matter a forgone conclusion.  They saw a green and white future; the very real prospect of another treble while the chairman with the reverse Midas Touch controls Ibrox.

Fergus McCann built a new stadium and had league trophy in a cabinet in the boardroom when he left Celtic five years after taking control.  This character will be at Ibrox four years come March and the greatest achievement in his tenure was a semi-final penalty kick competition win.

Never change, Dave.

  1. Delighted to hear about the two-game ban especially with who the next 2 opponents are. Just wondering how funny it is now Craig. ya bawbag!

  2. Now here is a conundrum based on Paul 67s article.

It is based on ” unforeseen consequences”.

What if the conclusion of Res12 was the removal of Dave King?

Would that be a good thing or a bad thing for Celtic based on Paul’s observations?

How should PL be handling it? :)

My point being you never know for certain how things will turn out.

Enjoy today, never look too far back or too far ahead, you might miss your stop.

  3. The hearing re Bawbag is Thursday, so he is free to play against Hibs. The ban if any will only come into effect from Thursday and even then I assume he could appeal it and make himself available to play against us.

Alternatively maybe we could appeal it ourselves coz the Bawbag ain’t much good.

  6. If you went to Patrick and St Johnstone for the first two rounds of the League cup and are on the HCTS you should be guaranteed a ticket.

The remainder of the tickets should go to those on the HCTS on a first come first served basis. I think there will be enough for everyone on the HCTS as not everyone took their ticket for Murrayfield. If there is not enough to go around then above should apply.

Sorry, in between meetings, so I will answer briefly (cue loud celebrations across CQNdom)

He has been too long in the job …. and seems to cosy with our majority shareholder and the league … we need to work with them… but that doesn’t mean that we need to roll over … and I see little or no evidence of Celtic fighitg, let alone winning, any of those battles….

he doesn’t seem to stand up for average fans or shareholders…

ultimately, for me, the lack of information about 5WA and Res. 12 …. those alone justify – in fact, demand – his replacement….

  8. Madmitch @ 3.26

Berating ‘the board’ is your well and oft typed mantra, at least you are consistent, you also after a European reverse , castigate the team, one by one, ala Leipzig . Doing occasional faint CQN praise when we win in the diddy leagues or cups? that set up your European displeasure, is not my cup of tea either.

I’m content that all CEO’s get paid too much for their efforts, Peter Lawwell is apparently no exception, however, I don’t have hang ups or even full blown obsessions like some, don’t use clichés like ‘bean counters’ and definitely don’t fall for the current SMSM fuelled charge of Peter Lawwell v Brendan Rodgers

( see any other Celtic manager since 2003. )

Peter Lawwell’s ‘success’ rate, not my bag, either, though there is counter argument, a plenty, given the turnover alone. I’m happy that he’s viewed as the most powerful man in Scottish Football and is despised elsewhere, for being partly responsible for the demise of original Rainjurz, overall does a good job while getting paid too much yada ,yada, yada, ( see CEO’s the world over )

I will question board matters where it affects the Celtic support, in emotional terms, but don’t bother with the sums too much, because it is manifestly evident Celtic are minted in relative terms. We have p@ssed all over Sevco since their inception in 2012, and are set up on solid ground for generations to come regardless of who if any in the meantime, gets another heated drive.

Looking at Europe in isolation to judge Celtic is unfair, when faced with Red Bulls we’re back on an uneven playing field again akin to being able to buy Paul Gascoigne, Brian Laudrup, Terry Butcher, and many others they would not have otherwise been able to afford.

We need quality players that no one else in Scotland can afford to buy getting them to play here along with one or two more Tierneys is the trick. Odsonne Edouard and Olivier Ntcham are the living proof that we’ve did it, and will do it again, we will never require to start a semi final, with half a team of failures on loan .

More interested in supporting Celtic as ‘a whole club,’ with no division apparent, just like at Murrayfield, or any actual fixture where there is a team to be supported.

    Hail Hail

  9. Peter Lawwell CEO, our CEO who has presided over kicking Res 12 into the long grass, who has had his fingers in every pie going within the game in scotland for the past ten+ years, yet he has managed to preside over nothing when it comes to cleaning up the game in scotland, if the truth be know the corruption and the cheating is getting worse, this is the CEO who so many on here in such high regard, his number one priority is to the shareholders, not the football club, the shareholders, he has failed in this regard, for this alone he should be sacked, the sfa, the spl have covered up the cheating in the game, this has been proven in a court of law, where is the condemnation of this ?, not a single sound from the club, nothing, yet many on here think Pedro is a hero cos Brendan has made the club heaps of money.

With respect, if a hun said something like that………………….

As for the PL debate, there is one man who makes the calls on our future and that is Dermot Desmond. He brought us MON to shut that lot up, then he bankrolled Brendan , to do exactly the same again. Sweet. PL wil he gone when DD decides, you can take that to the bank

  15. Believe it or not, Pedro’s first duty in law is to Shareholders, now I don’t like Desmond or any other of those fat cats but I do believe him when he says that Celtic is the only emotional Investment he has ever made.

He is getting a return from his preferential Shares OK and it is the nature of the beast that these guys will always want to turn a profit.

I would much prefer Desmond to Ashley or King for that matter.

Our Club is on a very secure financial footing and it’s very easy to pour scorn at that statement but would any of us want it any other way.

We have success domestically, but we are coming up badly short in Europe & that presents a huge dilemma.

To compete in Europe we would need to spend big & pay huge wages & even then we would still be small frys & guaranteed nothing.

In short it would be a huge gamble & could potentially set us back years if it backfired.

Really pleased to see that the SFA Compliance Officer is beginning to show her teeth. Steven McLean has been cited for his attack on Kouassi on Sunday – bet Hearts will be delighted; they must be running out of strikers.

Also pleased to read that McKinnon and Stewart have also been pulled up by the CO, following the Killie v. Hamilton game on Saturday. I was not aware of this, but the CO can, it seems, review a yellow card incident & suggest that it should be upgraded to a red. (Can’t remember whether Stewart or McKinnon was booked, but I’m pretty sure one of them was ?

Indisputable facts? That’s quite a high bar you are setting in order to criticise Pedro. Too high in my opinion, as a lot of opinions will be drawn from the readily available (but incomplete) information.

Link to Celtic’s annual report 2018 on the website- http://www.celticfc.net/pages/corporate_investornews

A point of note is that Pedro received £2,573,729 (inclusive of remuneration and bonuses). That’s a healthy 2.5% of our turnover paid to our CEO.

I reckon that in their last 5 matches at Hampden, (from October 2016 to October 2018 – 2 years), Sevco have used 45 players, lost all 5 matches, failed to score any goals & conceded just 10.

The stars are – Tavernier with 5 appearances, Windass with 4 (2 as sub) and Halliday & Candeias with 3. Another 11 players have managed 2 appearances which leaves the rump of the litter – the other 30 !!! – managing just one appearance each. Mind you, I’ve never heard of quite a few of these until I looked it up.

At here are two Peter Lawwells.

One who is charged with keeping the club viable and safe from the vagaries of football finances.

The other one has to steer the club through the minefield of a hostile football environment, where he has one voice in forty two.

As has been shown in the past, Celtic have never enjoyed the good offices of the Scottish football and the Establishment.

I’m talking about refereeing standards, going back to the drunken MC Dale, through to the Flag issue of 1952 and, more recent case of the punitive £500k rent of Hampden, at a time when Fergus was rescuing the club from liquidation and disgrace.

That is, as we all should know, the environment in which we ply our trade.

Their ball, their selectively applied research ules

This PLC v the Club split is a carbon copy of the Holding Company v the Club lie that was foisted on us by the SFA/SPL.

We are better than that, at least, we used to be.
