Never step into a great man’s shoes, Nadir

798

Remember Henri Camara?  Martin O’Neill paid a significant loan fee to sign him 10 years ago, in the considerable wake of Henrik Larsson.  Henri flopped and soon lost his place in the team but the weight of responsibility thrust upon his frame was considerable.  No one could come close to filling the gap left in the Celtic team.

Nadir Ciftci would do well to consider whose shoes he’s stepping into at Celtic.  Last summer’s striker signings, John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic could hardly muster a start the second half of the season.  Leigh Griffiths, who arrived 18 months ago, got the striker’s gig most weeks, but Leigh came to Celtic with as illustrious a heritage as Nadir.

Never step into a great man’s shoes, but Nadir’s not doing that.  This is the perfect time for a striker to join Celtic, I hope he has the appetite.

I see the great and the good in the media are flogging lyrical at the prospect of a prodigy arriving from Madrid.  None of this has come from Celtic.  The player may become available at some point but I reckon it remains a hard task convincing Real his immediate future should lie in Glasgow.

If we want Odegaard and get him, he’s not keeping any of our youngsters out of the side. It’s show business, as we don’t do marquee signings anymore, unless it’s a Norwegian Spanish sensation who knows Ronny.

It’s good publicity and may not even happen, but puts Celtic’s name all over the Internet

  3. timmy 7 – I’ve lived in Denia for 10 years now but know next to nothing of Gandia despite it being only 30kms or so up the road. Since moving here we hardly go much further than Javea next door unless it is to drive to the airport. Denia has enough bars, restaurants, beaches and cafés to keep us local. I often cycle through Oliva, Gandia, Pego, Cullera etc. but normally with a bunch of cyclists so lucky to see much more than the rider in front of me.

I know it had it’s own version on Spainsh MTV of Jersey Shore so there must be a vibrant summer music/nightlife scene – but I’d be tucked up in bed before any of that stuff kicks off.

  4. Did our new keeper, Bailly, jet in or arrive via Loganair?

Any more news on Irish starlet O’degaard?

    Welcome to Celtic

    Nadir & Logan

May your days with us be blessed & trophy laden.

  6. Winning Captains

Sorry, but still the same, it held for about 15secs then drops out with message on reloading

I am opening on a separate page from the blog, when it drops out, it also troughs me out of being logged into the blog ( was doing this before as well)

    Hail Hail

  7. If and its a big if “what does the young norwegian bring to celtic” if brought on loan.

Bigger coverage for the hoops worldwide

Suppose he comes does really well,

Do you think this could increase our profile as a club that can improve the very top bracket in youth

Also do you think this could help us command a higher transfer fee for one of our players to be sold in the future..

(Its always been said “good in spfl doesnt mean good in a better league”)

As it proves the point we can even better the best!!

    Just a thot.hh

Another point about odergaard there is every chance he could become the next freddy adu or Rabiu ibrahim of this world. He has talent but has a hell of a way to go.

It wasn’t that long ago that the two above mentioned were being toured to be the next best thing and both have done buggerall and they had talent.

  9. Islam Feruz hasn’t done much lately either.

  10. Gandia?

Did our Development side not pump them 5-0 yesterday in a friendly which was apparently played in ‘searing heat’?

    Calvin Miller scored two

    HH!!

  11. So far this year the transfer moves have been good, a lot of surplus to requirement lads have been moved on, particularly Balde, Pukki & Fridjonnson. Obviously the jury is out on the guys in until we see them in action but pedigree of Boyata, Janko, Bailly & Ciftci is encouraging.

The 2 players of note we lost were Matthews & Denayer and we couldn’t do anything about Denayer as he was only a loan.

So far, I’m a satisfied Tim, waiting patiently for a left full. Surprised that there is no talk at all about any move for Derk, I’m beginning to think that Ronny sees something in him and is perhaps going to give him a chance to redeem himself.

So the keepers signed what about Cifti is big Pierre hardball in the talks ? H.H.

  13. Denia,I have recently bought a holiday home in Denia, would like to make contact with you,

See with derk what i have seen of him for celtic and previously he is a very direct winger and pacey. Before he got injured by that worm in the ross county game he was lovely and was making very good moves and skinning the opposition. I believe he could come good, given he gets over his injuries!! And can put a consistent challenge and run if games together.

  16. Good Evening!

Did you see The Evening Times actually mentioning that Rangers ‘the club’ was liquidated?

    It was removed very quickly.

    But not quickly enough!

    Hmmm….

  18. Derk as a converted wing back?

    A la Agathe?

If he can cover the opposition like he covers the physio’s bench he’d be immense!

Naw? I don’t think so either really!

The first half hour of his debut was immense till that wurim scythed him doon!

Never known any other Celtic player start so well and fade to do little.

Thanks anyway I’m an old codger myself so won’t be up much later than midnight most of the time.I was going to try Denia but landed on Gandia for a lazy week after a week in Valencia due to the ease of train travel.

Was going to hire a bike but I think the heat would kill me.Normally do 60-80 miles per week at home but only in the rain or an overcast Glasgow morning…….:-)

    Cheers.

  22. Derk

I don’t think he wants it enough.. If he wanted to play he would be demanded a move and taking paycut or looking for loan deal .

He seems happy with life. Sadly for us
