Remember Henri Camara? Martin O’Neill paid a significant loan fee to sign him 10 years ago, in the considerable wake of Henrik Larsson. Henri flopped and soon lost his place in the team but the weight of responsibility thrust upon his frame was considerable. No one could come close to filling the gap left in the Celtic team.
Nadir Ciftci would do well to consider whose shoes he’s stepping into at Celtic. Last summer’s striker signings, John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic could hardly muster a start the second half of the season. Leigh Griffiths, who arrived 18 months ago, got the striker’s gig most weeks, but Leigh came to Celtic with as illustrious a heritage as Nadir.
Never step into a great man’s shoes, but Nadir’s not doing that. This is the perfect time for a striker to join Celtic, I hope he has the appetite.
I see the great and the good in the media are flogging lyrical at the prospect of a prodigy arriving from Madrid. None of this has come from Celtic. The player may become available at some point but I reckon it remains a hard task convincing Real his immediate future should lie in Glasgow.

Maria Bueno….was thinking of her earlier. She and Ken Rosewall had all my attention in the late 50s and early 60s Wimbledon. They oozed class.
Rumour has it acgr had a crush on Billie Jean King in the Seventies, he had several posters on his wall until Pedro explained she was gay.
Bmcuwp’s pin up was Martina Natralova, some say he still has posters on his wall:)
As for me, I was a Chris Evert bhoy:))

Thanks for the info.
Goodnight all. Got the Arbroath Seniors Open (Golf) tomorrow morning so early to bed 0:-)

BT- howdy mucker.
You’re gonna need a bigger filing cabinet mate! :-(
There is a lit of dissent in the air just now and strike action is around the corner. Only ones who are happy are middle management upwards. They don’t have to be on the system and are enforcing it with gay abandon (before TSOAL jumps in…naw Gay Abandon didn’t play for us!:-)
Totally pig sick of it!
So bhoys/ghirls can we have suggestions for which career BT should move into???
Yvonne Goolagong (sp)
Blantyretim at 21.46, definitely.
Gideon’s announcement would not be what you were wanting to hear on returning from your holiday a few days back.
As usual, the government tackles those with the least resources to fight back.
hrvatski … how ya doin’ jim?
I have heard others say something similar about Ms. Bueno …. but I never saw her play (dont think, even on tape) so cant say more …. and she was a bit before my time (and yours, too, I would have thought ….)
…and thanks to you, too , Justafan.
Sipsini
Billie Jean King? Look at her initials and you could find yourself in trouble on here 0:-)
( as indeed could I for mentioning it!!)
Definite ofsky now!

As you know I enjoy my job especially after my 20 years where you and Dallas Dallas are now, at least we could speak to and deal with people as human beings in those days
I would not fret over Cifcti, things take time…will be concluded tomorrow.
Keep the Faith!
Hail Hail!

Pancho Gonzales v Charlie Pasarell – 1969 – Pancho over 40, in the longest match – no tie-breaks, no ball-boy/girl slaves running back and forward with towels, Pancho wiping copious amounts of sweat from his brow with only his index finger – no demanding four/five balls and discarding three of them.
3 July 1969, school out for summer, glued to our 17 inch Ferguson black & white TV, whilst my mum and dad were at work, and my sisters uninterested – halcyon days indeed.
jungle jim hot smoked…
Check wiki Jim, he won the French open 6 times.
He was unbeatable in his time.
Ah, Sabatini – here’s a bit of fun

Joe Filippi at 21.54, there will be truth in the report, I’ve no doubt but the Herald/Evening Times group with the likes of those two I mentioned , will enjoy his transfer being dragged out.
Hopefully, Nadir’s transfer doesn’t drag on and we get him signed by Friday at the latest. I assume he won’t be training with United at the moment so we need him signed and in our training regime as quick as possible.
Forget the idea of tapping, but I find it strange that we agree a deal for a player with another club without knowing what the player’s ball park figure is.
If the player’s requirements are way beyond what was thought they would be then the club walks away. The total cost of the package minus future sales needs to be weighed against the benefits he might bring.
Personally I would never get involved with Pierre. He has a personal grievance to resolve. We are not desperate for Nadir Ciftci. If he signs then fine. If he doesn’t then fine.
I’d rather we weren’t involved with Pierre van Hoooijdonk.
Anybody else waiting on season tickets arriving?
eireann @ 22:11 on 8 July, 2015
Mine (in Paisley) arrived last Saturday.
Think most have arrived Anne
Even the investors mob received theirs today. 8)
I’m surprised there has been no comments on the budget today.
Come out Yer closets;)

get your point regarding edu.
in all fairness none of us had heard of denayer this time last year..so spotlight wasnt on him.
personally im not to bothered with regards to the young norwegian coming.was more about what other clubs from other leagues view us if it did happen
thanks anyhow.hh
justafan … .
for quite a while, until the sometime in the mid 80’s the Oz Open used to be last major of the year, at the end of the season, and it was (back then) much harder to get to (and paid less prize money) …. so, unless you were going for a slam (which rarely happened) many of the pros gave it a miss for a long time… which is why they moved it from the end of the year to the start of the year
now the Oz open is the first major of the year, so if you have aspirations of winning the slam, you have to play it .. plus, travel is easier now, and they increased the prize money
sipsini … you were one amongst many who had a thing for young Ms. Evert … the rumors were that her private life was somewhat different (actually quite different) from her public image of the nice catholic school girl/ice maiden
one of my first coaches was Tony Galea … who has since become better known as a doctor for a lot of high profile athletes (Tiger Woods, ARodseveral sprinters ) and he had ‘special medications’ for them, which landed him in hot water …

Doing fine – hope to see you when you come to Scotland
She was before my time but she is the female Charlie Tully of tennis to me. Only seen a few clips but read up about her and all testaments are that she was unsurpassed in her elegance.
She would regularly appear at Wimbledon many years after she retired and always looked so elegant.
My daughter is called after her. (Don’t tell the wife,,,she thinks the name came from a former girlfriend)
Of course, there was also Little Mo (Maureen Connolly) – brilliant but died far too young.

Honourable mention to Evonne Goolagong who was a joy to watch.
Sips,
Re the budget
If i could understand it, I’d comment
Reminds me if Grumpy in Snow White
Grumpy: Angel, ha! She’s a female! And all females is poison! They’re full of wicked wiles!
Bashful: What are wicked wiles?
Grumpy: I don’t know, but I’m agin’ ’em.
At Wimbledon you can buy a tube of used tennis balls
I was there many years ago – one tube was 50p the other tube 60p
Why the difference asks me
The 60p balls were used by Anna Kornakova !!
Wee Anna – when serving – used to put the second ball up her knickers
I paid the extra 10p !!!!!!!!

They’ve took £12B off benefits as a saving yet spend £11B to phone and internet companies to store customers correspondence, blogs comments and telecoms/texts.
Benefits being redirected to invade privacy, sounds about right.
Blantyretim, things have changed but not for the better.
Just read a tweet on Etims twitter, Damien Duff will signfor Shamrock Rovers and his wages there are getting paid to good causes rather than him.
I know he will have a made a fortune from his time in England but its still a nice touch.
Sips,
We could be Greek, Lord help them
