Never step into a great man’s shoes, Nadir

798

Remember Henri Camara?  Martin O’Neill paid a significant loan fee to sign him 10 years ago, in the considerable wake of Henrik Larsson.  Henri flopped and soon lost his place in the team but the weight of responsibility thrust upon his frame was considerable.  No one could come close to filling the gap left in the Celtic team.

Nadir Ciftci would do well to consider whose shoes he’s stepping into at Celtic.  Last summer’s striker signings, John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic could hardly muster a start the second half of the season.  Leigh Griffiths, who arrived 18 months ago, got the striker’s gig most weeks, but Leigh came to Celtic with as illustrious a heritage as Nadir.

Never step into a great man’s shoes, but Nadir’s not doing that.  This is the perfect time for a striker to join Celtic, I hope he has the appetite.

I see the great and the good in the media are flogging lyrical at the prospect of a prodigy arriving from Madrid.  None of this has come from Celtic.  The player may become available at some point but I reckon it remains a hard task convincing Real his immediate future should lie in Glasgow.

Well done to Andy Murray in getting to the semi-finals again. The last three winners are in the last four, so I guess they got the seeding just about right, apart from Gasquet that is. Federer can still beat anybody over three sets but he can’t beat everybody over four or five. Amazing to think that ten years after Andy first played at Wimbledon that Roger is still there. Seems to me Andy Murray has had to play a variety of players this time round, and has figured out a way to beat every one of them. They’re no strangers of course, even in London, but I think Andy will figure out a way to get to the final. Hope so anyway,

  4. The budget was more of the same. If you gross more than £50,000 pa, you will be okay. If you gross around £30,000 , have 2 kids and truly try to get on , you will probably be worse off. That is pretty much what has happened over the last ten years in my opinion.

I hope your wife and you have a great time.

Hopefully by the time you return, we will be in the next champions league qualifying round and nice sunny conditions will be a regular feature in your morning weather reports.

Those who advocated better together are probably too embarrassed to comment on the budget.

Others like myself have always known that Tories are simply Tories who look after their own.

Having said that, I am stunned to hear a Tory advocating a high wage economy.

I have a feeling that somewhere down the line that will be translated into less tax leaving you more of the wages to spend as you please.

The cuts in the budget are aimed at the young ie Hb. Then there is the changes to Working Tax Credit, which largely was overlooked and overshadowed by the Headline about £9.00 living wage……in bloody 2020!!!

The change to WTC will wipe out eligibility for many of the lowest paid.

The freeze on benefits is shameful, the rhetoric used to camouflage it was disgraceful. Basically we can’t afford it….

Last night you may have seen the admission that power suppliers have been ripping us all off? They quantified it at £60 per household…. Hold your breath waiting on a rebate.

The high wage economy is for high earners from what I’ve garnered from the budget.

  13. Andy Murray’s achievements are comparable to Celtic’s in the 67 – 74 era.

Since 2008 Andy’s been beaten in 2 Quarter Finals and 3 semi’s. He’s reached the final twice, winning once.

He’s probably more likely to reach a Wimbledon final before we reach another European final ;-)

The implementation of Universal Credit and schemes like these bastardized “apprenticeships” will lead to a drop in wages and expectations in our kids.

This can only damage out economy and the crucial housing market.

Westminster government are selfish and myopic. The last outfit thought it appropriate to raise retirement age….only to flounder as our youth’s job prospects withered.
