New Balance take over from Nike this summer as Celtic’s official kit partner and main sponsor. The US sportswear firm have along heritage in technical products, like running shoes, with less of a legacy in the leisurewear market than the likes of Nike, but this move, as well as a recent deal to partner Liverpool, indicates a strong commitment to become a major player in the football marketplace.
Both the Celtic and Liverpool contracts have been advertised as potentially record deals for the respective clubs, although each club declined to put a figure on the value, or the contract period in their official statements. It’s likely that a significant part of the contract fee will depend on Champions League qualification.
Unconfirmed reports put the size of the deal at £29m, cash that other clubs have securitised off to a retailer.
Last call today for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, which takes place next Friday, 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite. After the dinner we have a Q&A with Packy Bonnar, Tommy Coyne, Joe Miller and Tom Boyd. We have Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein on the 50th anniversary of him becoming manager, and song from Patricia Ferns.
The object of the night is to raise money to build another school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi. Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa Hague, will also join us. She will be auctioning an incredible prize of a signed Ronny Deila jersey, signed Kris Commons boots and match hospitality in the Players’ Lounge for the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.
Tickets will be posted out over the next few days, email me if you’re still looking, celticquicknews@gmail.com we’re closing the book tomorrow.

However I wouldnt be too critical of Lawwell for his answer
He was between a rock and a hard place
Gives the answer he gave and a lot of Celtic fans take offence
Doesnt give that answer or is seen to equivocate in any way and its going to be twisted into “Celtic a pro terrorist club” type of nonsense for SMSM headlines with a view I would imagine to scupper new sponsorship deal.
One has to try to rise above this nonsense
With the help of hindsight Lawwell possibly should have said that he wouldnt dignify such a patently nonsenical question with an answer
But he was probably taken by suprise and gave a quick answer thinking on his feet
Just sitting watching Question Time
And without getting into Politics
That guy Hamza Yousef ? Attended the “Tir Connel” fundraiser last year

absoloutely raging !! just seen the PL press conference with NB . Talk about being ambushed !! The spineless “journalists “fielding the type of questions that they would never ask that shower of bigots in Govan . Why Celtic tolerate these guys from STV , BBC etc etc . If we are gonna be doing these type of briefings we should have someone there to tell them where to get off with this type of cheap questions
Haven’t read through today’s blog.
My thoughts on today’s press launch.
Club Officials have allowed our biggest ever sponsorship agreement to turn into a circus.
The question asked, was IMHO, deliberately asked to embarrass the club.
It should have been immediately swatted away, backed up with a scowl from CE, and ‘ next question please’.
Poor stuff and points to a lack of preparation from folks within Celtic.
Papa
Well hiv a wee cola and talk Celtic then :-)
Blantyretim.
I’m coming into the Blane Valley tomorrow with Zbyszek around 2.00pm before he heads back to Warsaw,I hope you come in to say farewell, his flight is at 8.30pm so he will probably be in the Blane until 6.30.we can send him off in our usual boisterous way.
You all know your welcome to come and either meet him for the first time or like a few of us “glad to see you again Zbyszek style”The regulars better come,or else, “that’s the drink talking now”,First time I’ve used this laptop, forgive me if there are any errors.

I know that feeling, for one.
Having traveled the globe extensively, and without bias I can state I have been warmly welcomed by locals from the Middle East, Africa, South America, Asia and the US.
An example: at a shipyard in Japan I once had sushi and copious amounts of Sake rammed down my throat by an army of grinning stevedores, just for wearing the Hoops, and it was my Maloney 13 top, not who you would think!

I have never posted about what the board do, or don’t do, life is too short.
But today’s rank amateurism has annoyed me so much.
Celtic’s links, imagined or real, with Ireland and republicanism are nothing but a smokescreen for the cheerleaders for the Sevco circus.
I really can’t believe Celtic have been so, so stupid.
=============================
Celtic’s PR should be changed. I think they lack empathy with the support and an understanding of the support’s thinking.
They should have someone employed almost full time devoted to that task in order to get the right message out.
My response would have been on the lines of
Celtic have strong connections to Irish history as they were born from it. A child cannot deny its parents and no parent is free from their history.
Irish Republicanism is part of Irish history so the question is invalid in that the two cannot be separated. Few if any countries have a history were civil conflict was not a feature of their historical development, including the UK.
Now eff off.
I really can’t fault PL on this, it’s the journalist that has sammied him right up, although he took the bait, he’ll be raging too.
Good night folks.

I’m critical that he hadn’t the nous to see he was being set up – he was thrown a shovel and preceded to dig a hole for himself. If he couldn’t see it then the PR guys should have and stopped it there and then.

Stop talking sense
WITS & clashcitybhoy
Your respective posts make a great deal of sense IMHO.
We need ‘lines to take’ on everything for every Celtic employee who ever faces the press. Doesn’t mean we should ever seek to answer every stupid question.
Many of these lines can include ‘no comment’, ‘that’s got no bearing on this topic’ and (for today!)’I’m sorry but I won’t dignify that with a response’.

I agree with your assessment. In PL’s place I would welcome the opportunity to “strenuously” stress the opinion of Celtic FC and it’s support….
On Alien soil like yourself I am here,
I,ll take root and flourish,of this never fear,
And though I,ll be cross and sore oft by the foes,
You’ll find me as hardy as Thistle and Rose
If model is needed as your own pitch you’ll have it…
Does our CEO deny these words?

I tried to explain it to my wife, she was never into football, then I took her to a game, we beat Hearts 2-1 with Craig Gordon fumbling the ball into his own net. She knows exactly what the feeling is.

I believe a position defined as “Supporter Relations Director” has just opened up.

Before a press conference a good PR advisor will give a crib sheet of questions that may arise and suggested answers.
This should also include answers to questions that are “off topic”, and guidance on how to get back on topic.
This isn’t the first time I have felt that press interviews have gone off piste – although I am racking my brains for an example.
I don’t believe today reflects well on the PR team, or the CE ( who I might add, Imho , does an overall decent job)

You are correct I am sure with the point regarding protocol at press conferences but surely today was a classic case of media representative tossing in a hand grenade.
In hindsight we can all say what should have happened
But …hand grenades can have an unsettling affect on the receiver

My American missus, bless her soul, was not prepared for what she married into.
One conversation with my extended family during a visit to Belturbet put her straight. She been a diehard Tim ever since. And her being from Itialian/Mexican ancestry.

Myself and a couple of Dublin Sporting Gents will be there with our Valets and Butlers etc
In way all the shite from the media that’s come our way recently, could be argued that it’s just a reaction to how much they are HURTING :-)
Seems like to me it stings…

Thanks for reminder.
Even more reason why we should have seen it coming.
Next time a Q like that is asked , how about a response of
” that’s an unusual question, we have seen evidence in the past of journalists being prompted to ask questions by PR companies employed by other clubs. I am sure that’s not the case with your Q , and I’m sure you’ll understand why I am only going to talk about today’s match”
