New contracts are Champions League dividend

1114

It’s great news that Celtic have secured three first choice players, Charlie Mulgrew, Adam Matthews and James Forrest, on new long term contracts.  It allows the players to forget about long-term career issues and concentrate on team matters and the manager and scouts can worry about squad recruitment efforts in other areas.

This news is a direct consequence of Champions League group stage qualification.  Not only do Celtic have funds to increase wage budget, more importantly, aspirational football players, who want to reach the very top of the game, have a reason to be here.

The same is true of Fraser Forster’s England call up.  Scottish football has long been regarded along the lines of lower division football in England, but with Champions League football, the English national team have endorsed our football.  It will be easier to attract the next wave of recruits as a result.  One day Kris Commons [stand out Player of the Year candidate]can only hope his own national team will regard his productive displays in the same manner.

Thanks for that advice. Definitely leaning towards a Lumix. But like you I’m only really a snapper on holiday, at Christmas, etc so trying to justify treating myself.

I have a family member who is a professional photographer, and when I bought a camera for my wife last Xmas (for the same reasons you say above!), he recommended a Nikon Coolpix at around £150.

Maybe you already do this and my mobile broswer is missing it but when you announce

” new article posted” it is actually a hyperlink to the article or would that upset the odds in tthe podium sweepstake?

  6. Just thought I’d repost this from the last thread

Quote from David Moyes in the Guardian

” folk think I’m defensive but I was brought up on the best attacking team ever in terms of style and what was demanded, Glasgow Celtic”

    Thanks Dave

Looked at the spec for both cameras and it looks like the a lot of the extra cash is for the video side of it. If you are thinking about doing a lot of video them it may be worth it ( most panasonics do decent video anyway) I would probably go for the cheaper one.

    Afternoon all,

Looking for a bit of help. I have kept in my favorites for a few years a link to the article in Daily Rangur/Sunday Mail for the floating pitch/super casion/Ritz hotel. Today I was forwading the link to someone and when I clicked on it, it now takes you to todays Daily Ranger .. strange. Now I have searched the web and found the same URL as I had on many sites but all take you to todays front page.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/2008/01/06/rangers-s-secret-700m-blueprint-for-ibrox-78057-20275903/

Does anyone have it sTored in PDF or like pictue of the fabulous stadium and the narrative.

    Thanks

  10. Great that these 3 have signed contracts…… MSM saying Fergie sniffing around Big Vic. Get him signed up because we all know Fergie loves nothing more than unsettling and tapping up a player!!

  11. Did you know that overseas subscribers on the standrad definition package can watch every SPL game for around £3.70 whilst SB holders pay around £27 per home game only?

Now if your internet connection makes on line viewing poor then maybe that is a fair price. But if it is watchable or if the higher definition that is slightly more expensive per game works well then it seems to me there is a prime facie case for a better balance.

I say this purely from a personal perespective and appreciate not all subscribers can afford to pay more and leave it to individual’s sense of fairness and personal circumstances to chew over but the gap is pretty wide.

  16. Paul67,

it is excellent news indeed that the trio have signed.

Would love to see Victor and Gary, at least, also added to the above 3.

MSM already making noises re Vic and Man U/Fergie and we know that Hoops profile is already higher with his CL goals and the calls to have him at least looked at by England.

No doubt both have half an eye on the EPL anyway, so be nice to ensure we are rewarded/compensated accordingly should either or both head south of the border.

I tend to look ahead and can see a time not too far off when picture quality for tbe majority on PCs Ipads Iphones Androids will simply not be an issue.

It seems plain wrong to me as someone who likes to pay his round before accepting a drink that others should be making my round cheaper when I could afford my round.

Most Tims I come across are like that and I think there has to be a change in our thinking as a support AS A WHOLE as to how we do the best for each other as part of the total Celtic community.

  19. Hi Paul,

Spot on, by not speculating on bringing in new players with high fees and even higher salaries in the summer, Lenny has managed to secure the services long term of some of our most potent talent.

Rewarding our academy bhoys properly is a big plus for me.

Celtic are putting Scottish Football back on the Map, it would be good for the National Team to emulate this by playing to their highest potential and qualifying for the World Cup.

    Howevah

Criag Levein as we know is a law unto himself – how many players have Scotland got that can be stand-outs in a Champions League Game?

If Kris Commons doesn’t make that Scotland Team they will be out of The WC before Christmas.

    Naming Rights…

What would b acceptable names from companys with naming rights. It’s a touchy subject, but in the modern game, is a must. The apple deal would b a cracker, another could b orange arena ibrox. Any other suggestions?

The decision to leave Kris out of the squad was not taken for footballing reasons ……. Don’t know why, but fine by me ……. Don’t also know why no Scotland players even approached the Romanian player to remonstrate when he violently assaulted John Kennedy ……. That further sickened me to the Scotland team….

  22. Auldheid

    Yeah agreed,

More than happy to pay my money, and glad that i can have my input, and like you standing my hand is the done thing with me….i even enjoy buying a round for people and i always get my bids in early and make sure everyone is seen to!

I don’t have a season ticket anymore, although have toyed with the idea of getting one and leaving it with a bus.

Maybe a wee bit quiet on here to be asking the question, and may ask again when CQN has more people logged on but…..

Does anybody know how many people subscribe to Celtic tv?

  23. It is hilarious to look back at those stories about floating pitches, hotels, 70k capacity etc.

  24. does anyone have links to Tommy calling Campbell Ogilvie & Jim Spence during the week.

I was on the Huddleboard and they have a thread about the Celtic Triangle and someone posted a PDF of the brochure with the plans (a reality not fiction) and I wanted to send them onto (can we call a zombie a friend?) ok ok, one of them with the details of the floating pitch and super casino (fiction not reality)

    Much appreciated
