Newco born from patronage of monetary inducements

740

Let’s be clear about what is going to happen on Friday.  Monetary inducements are being made to allow a newly created company to advance its football team two divisions up the league structure.

The overwhelming majority of money to pay for these financial inducements will be taken from Celtic, who vehemently oppose all these measures.  The SPL will reduce the commercial distribution to the top club in the league and pay-off everyone else.  41 teams will benefit financially from this proposition, only Celtic will lose.

For good measure, the SPL have declined to take gate sharing off the table.  Up to 30% of your season ticket money will soon be commandeered by Kilmarnock, Motherwell and the rest, who will take their slice and share some with the lower leagues.

All the while you can scarcely find a football fan of any club who is anything other than disgusted by this shoddy behaviour; Celtic fans are by no means isolated.  Most fans of former-club, Rangers, don’t want to see a phoenix assisted by such blatant patronage, lest Newco is forever known as a team which needed rules to be changed and money taken from Celtic to give it life.

Believe me, if Newco exists for 100 years, every day they score a goal someone will say, “They are only there because the rules were changed to help them and money was taken from Celtic to pay for it”.

They will forever be known as the Establishment club with definitive evidence that they benefited from the Establishment’s help.

The once-proud era of Scottish league football is surely over, what we are witnessing is merely evidence of this fact.  ‘Sport’ as gone from our football. Fans, clubs and the national bodies must accept this reality and start to make forward plans to breathe the oxygen of genuine competition into our game.

Where is Michel Platini when football really needs some help?

Wee word of warning for fans of the NewCo FC.

If a crisis on this level ever again darkens your door, try NOT to make an enemy of a football club which counts amongst its supporters a former Prime Minister, a man who understands the notion of a “blood feud” as well as anyone in politics in this great lands, who can advise and steer on any issue … oh yes, and who has friends who sit on the Culture, Media & Sport Committee at Westminster.

Tut-tut. What a silly, silly, bunch of sods you are.

So how do you stop gate sharing when there’s an 11-1 vote?

    +++++

You don’t; if it happens, it happens. It will not change the heterogeneous nature of the SPL, we’ll still earn sums vastly greater than any other club in the league.

And the need to produce our own talent (as a league, as a whole) will diminish because just over half the league can freeload a few hundred thousand to a million a year and the buying in of the new Don Goodman and Paul Bernard will come full circle.

    Yaay, a busted flush. Again.

  4. There’s a thread on Sevco Media about Mr Charles looking for a flat in Glasgow at the moment. This comment gave me good chuckle.

  6. James, interesting part from that article, and one I’ve not seen elsewhere in MSM, although I hasten to add that it’s some time since I took great notice of such…

Such an outcome would, it’s argued, protect the new, as yet unsigned, Sky TV deal – assuming, that is, that the new Glasgow club were able to win promotion next season.

Is that it in the open now – that all this manoeuvring is dependant on ‘ensuring’ Sevco also get promoted (remember, the game will lose hunners o mullions if they’re not)?

Oh I think the wording of the motion, I think the comments from Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir are all heavily slanted in a way which suggests if this grubby deal goes through NewCo’s smooth ascension to the SPL is assumed, if it not assured.

They are quite shamelessly promoting this as if football was not going to be played in the interim. And who knows? Maybe it’s not. Maybe they are going to decide this by Snakes & Ladders after all. And why not?

That’s the only other game I can think of where you can skip everyone in front of you with such startling ease.

    Use imagination

Pre-emptive- Outline to the proposers the negative consequences of their actions; Fans actively staying away from games to avoid contributing to this scam.

Active:- Staying Away and going to a Development League match instead to fund Celtic

I’m sure there are many other courses of action and you have the wit and imagination to dream up more yourself.

  11. Wrote to the then Celtic manager, the late, great Jimmy Mc Grory, in 1963 and he personally arranged for me to get a season ticket in the Main Stand for the following season.

I was so chuffed to be one of ‘the elite’ till I realised I was on my own and all my mates were having a hooly in the old jungle!

  12. Last post for sure, then bed…

Aye James, I have a suspicion that the SFA, SPL and SFL will be under one umbrella part way through next season when the Sevco Threadbears are languishing in 5th/6th position and it becomes more apparent that promotion by right of merit is not on the cards.

“We listened to the fans” will be the press release from Hampden as they gerrymander a top-16 league with an initial 2 down, 6 up, thereby increasing the likelihood of their tainted presence in our midst.

I’d luv it, in a Keegan stylee, if that actually came to pass and Orc FC still mucked it up, finishing 7th by a point.

Exactly, easily done. How about Celtic v Celtic Bhoys at £100 quid a pop or £50 quid pre season. Tons of ways around it, free entry for anyone who turns up at the first three games. There is absolutely no way they can do it, to be honest I don’t think they will even try.
