Newco born from patronage of monetary inducements

740

Let’s be clear about what is going to happen on Friday.  Monetary inducements are being made to allow a newly created company to advance its football team two divisions up the league structure.

The overwhelming majority of money to pay for these financial inducements will be taken from Celtic, who vehemently oppose all these measures.  The SPL will reduce the commercial distribution to the top club in the league and pay-off everyone else.  41 teams will benefit financially from this proposition, only Celtic will lose.

For good measure, the SPL have declined to take gate sharing off the table.  Up to 30% of your season ticket money will soon be commandeered by Kilmarnock, Motherwell and the rest, who will take their slice and share some with the lower leagues.

All the while you can scarcely find a football fan of any club who is anything other than disgusted by this shoddy behaviour; Celtic fans are by no means isolated.  Most fans of former-club, Rangers, don’t want to see a phoenix assisted by such blatant patronage, lest Newco is forever known as a team which needed rules to be changed and money taken from Celtic to give it life.

Believe me, if Newco exists for 100 years, every day they score a goal someone will say, “They are only there because the rules were changed to help them and money was taken from Celtic to pay for it”.

They will forever be known as the Establishment club with definitive evidence that they benefited from the Establishment’s help.

The once-proud era of Scottish league football is surely over, what we are witnessing is merely evidence of this fact.  ‘Sport’ as gone from our football. Fans, clubs and the national bodies must accept this reality and start to make forward plans to breathe the oxygen of genuine competition into our game.

Where is Michel Platini when football really needs some help?

  5. As for loose change actually enjoyed it. Do not know if it was a neo con plot to go to war in the middle east. But if you had asked me back in 2003 if the huns would one day be begging to get in to Div one I would have laughed in your face.

I spent a while tonight writing a response to a post on the Rangers Media website titled “Reconciliation Or Revenge?”, however it will not let me post. Couldn’t let it go to waste though… Maybe someone else can post it for me?

    *****************************

How can you possibly believe this madness? You claim to be a victim, that your club is being punished. That there is a disproportionate outpouring of hatred towards your club. What you fail to grasp are the basics of this situation.

RFC committed financial atrocities and self destructed. I hasten to point out again. SELF destructed.

At no point has an outside force caused this downfall.

You are in denial of this simple fact and the sooner you come to terms with it the sooner you can look to heal from the self inflicted and mortal wounds that destroyed the club you loved.

Your esteemed leaders chose a financial path based on cheating. And I know you’ll claim that the results of your appeal have not been published as yet, but lets for a minute look logically at that. Understand that your club would never have needed to appeal had there been no questionable tax practises in the first place. Are you really at ease and comfortable with the tax strategy that has lead to the liquidation of your ancient club? Do you really think it was okay to seek to fund footballers massive wages by failing to pay tax in the standard way? Millionaires were made of these footballers while you watched on in awe at their skills, all the while blinded by the lies told to you by David Murray that he was funding this success through genuine means. Are you not worried about the good that could have been done with this tax? How much good could have been done? It’s a piddling figure in comparison to the entire tax purse however a pound in the right place at the right time can save lives. By following this tax strategy Murray began a chain reaction. Cause and effect. There were times, time and again, when the spending could have been curbed. That the strategy could have been ceased. But the chain continued.

The biggest mistake Murray made is the fact that he did not predict a future where there would be variables outwith his control or influence. He believed in his own and absolute power. He did not count on a visit from the ‘foreign’ Police that exposed the private part of his books. He did not think that the dual contracts that made his use of fake EBT payments fail the acid test of being legal EBT’s. As we have all learned, to be an EBT in reality there must be no paper trail. Murray never thought for a second that the side letters would ever become public knowledge. He had no strategy to exit the situation well if he got caught being a bad boy that did not include his control over the media. He did not expect that a new form of media would rise to give a voice to the layman journalist. He did not expect that a light would be shone on his dirty deeds and that everyone would see that the emperor had no clothes.

Murray floundered and chose the wrong path a second time when he was handed the Big Tax Bill and chose to take his club down the wrong path again. He chose an appeal. The Big Tax Appeal (or big tax case if you prefer) was born. He could have just taken the hit, then and there; could have stood fast and said “hands up” lets sell a load of players, shrink the club in the short term and pay back the money that Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs were able to show was owed. A few years to clear a debt to society and spin the situation as a positive. Blame the bad advice on someone else, say that the strategy was a mistake and build fan confidence up by making a statement along the lines of.

“We have been advised by HMRC that we have not paid our tax accurately. It is a large sum and it will be tough to cut our cloth and pay; but it is payable. To pay this back will cause footballing problems. We may not win the title for some years to come. But our love for club and country leaves us no choice. Stick with us through the lean times that are sure to come and we will rise again!”

But nay, the second choice he made that continued a chain reaction that has killed the club you love. He chose to stick to his guns. To (indirectly via his well controlled press pack) deny there even was a tax case. To deflect from the truth and muddy the waters and to begin the process of selling the club. To rid himself of a distressed asset. And boy, did he find it hard to sell. The word was on the street. The buyers were few and far between and the only way to offload the club was to sell to a questionable character with a shady past.

Whyte then did nothing out of the ordinary. As even a cursory glance at his business past would confirm he treated RFC in the exact same way he’d treated a lond line of other companies he’d been involved with. A tangled web of lies and deceit was woven with a simple aim of stopping paying the bills and at the same time stripping the assets he’d purchased of as much worth as he could strip before one of the many people owed money by RFC pulled the trigger and tried to put the club in administration. If you blame Whyte for doing this then you are a fool. How can you blame a vampire for being blood thirsty. He is a parasite and to expect him to behave as a healer was utter folly.

Whyte managed to pull another fast one by installing, against all odds, his preferred Administrators and we all know about the ongoing accusations of corruption in their handling of the process.

Next up is Green, another player in the piece with a questionable past, he must also has his angle, his strategy, his way of getting a fortune out of a set of assets and by setting up a newco. Will his plan to line his pockets succeed or fail? Time will tell.

    The reaction of you and your fellow fans is utterly misguided. The SPL clubs have not ejected your club from the league. Your club lost it’s place by starting a chain of events entirely of the club’s own volition. At no point has an outside source forced RFC into this position. Now the club is in the final throes of administration awaiting a report to the court and the subsequent liquidation (which, trust me, will open up a can of worms. The current controversies are just the tip of the iceberg) And while all this happens a Green’s Newco is asking to be admitted to the league structure at the highest level possible without having to attain that position by sporting merit. There are those in the halls of power who are aiding and abetting when surely it would be more painless to just make the obvious decision and ask the member clubs to vote on only one simple thing. The proposal for the vote should read;

“Do the member clubs agree to waive the rule that states any new applicant to the SFL must have at least 3 years of accounts, and if so we will allow Mr. Green’s Newco entry to the lowest league.”

There is no punishment at play here. It is not a punishment to expect a new applicant to start at the bottom.

Can’t you begin to admit that you have not been punished? Can’t you realise that there is a difference between punishment and a simple chain reaction?

Someday you may even be able to look back at your own posts and wonder how you could be so deluded. The chain reaction started by a bad decision. The consequences are not a punishment.

It’s easy to be emotionally distraught and to have your judgement clouded when something you love is dying. I can’t even pretend to know how bad it must feel. I offer no sympathy however and I know you ask for none.

All I hope for is that someday you will see the reality of this situation, that you will realise that the ends do not justify the means.

Lastly; you quote Friedrich Nietzsche. As clearly stated in the Wikipedia entry on that philosopher

“Central to his philosophy is the idea of “life-affirmation”, which involves an honest questioning of all doctrines that drain life’s expansive energies, however socially prevalent and radical those views might be.”

A football club comes with a culture that one is indoctrinated into, you believe in the dogmatic, you can question the conventions that lead you to the misguided beliefs you have expunged in your article.

The rest are not out to get you, they are, like all of us are, always in a state of moral dilemma. All are doing their best. All are perverted to their own self interests in the opinion of an outsider.

Try to understand the motivations and accept them for what they are. Try to accept the situation your club brought upon itself and try to look for a positive outcome.

P.S. Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.

  7. it seems that the sfl clubs have less to loss that the spl clubs with regards income, so why would they even risk marginalising their fans by voting yes to newco and TH is letting everyone know it!!! it is win win for them, every team in every division will host them twice in the league, possible play-off participation, the ramsden cup, league cup etc… possible revenue increase from sponsorship, t.v interest, catering, gates, raffle etc… and they keep their contracted payment from the spl.

    Q. how can slf/sfa/spl argued the spl needs rangers and their to big to fail, and on the other hand argued it would not be good to have them start life in the 3rd division? if its so good for respective spl clubs to have thems in the highest league then it must be equally good, for respective sfl clubs, to have them in the lower divisions, no?

taking off the green glasses, i would be demanding newco start in 3rd division if i was a chairman of 3rd division club, jesus ayr have a 10,000 capacity stadium, what do you think two visits from newco would do for their finances?

    My pleasure mate. That deserves posted under the CQN byline. I posted myself on that one earlier, with the following;

“I would stipulate that Bluepeter9 is also ten times the man you are. You think he is better than all the other fans out there, who have talked about “sporting integrity.” I say he is one of us, one of the people who knows what that phrase actually means.

Bernard Rubble, who posted before me, put forward a hilarious riposte to your Nietzsche quote. I actually laughed out loud reading it. I laughed out loud even more reading it at the bottom of your article; a stunningly brilliant example of Google Quote without even the slightest understanding of context if ever I have seen one. You have no clue – none – in which context that phrase was used, have you? Of course not. No more than you understand Francis Bacon and who he was.

He also said “The place of justice is a hallowed place”, but I guess that quote wasn’t to your liking.

Bluepeter9 has twigged to the source of your club’s ills, and because he loves something rather than hates something else (the abiding characteristic of many of your fans) he also understands that the way to change your situation is to change your behaviour. He wants to build bridges – and that makes him part of the wider family of Scottish football, who are labouring mightily for a solution to this situation which is true to the wider nature of the game. He seeks to make friends, whilst you and others continue to be obsessed by the search for enemies.

Floundering communities have long been plagued by problems like these.

A war for the soul of New Rangers is inevitable here. For the sake of the club which emerges, and for the wider good of football in this country, those of us who love the game can only pray it is won by people like Bluepeter9, who care enough about it to reach out and rebuild trust.

Your own attitude belongs in the age of darkness we just came out of.”

That comment has since been removed. I love going on there and sowing dissension, responding to their lunacy.

It’s not as if they’ve done anything which might cause anyone to hate them.

    I mean, it’s not like they’ve:

    1. Cheated every other club in the country for over 20 years (and a good deal longer).

    2. Had an official club policy expressly forbidding anything to do with Catholics.

    3. Swindled tax payers out of millions.

    4. Swindled other clubs out of many thousands due to them.

    5. Swindled 100s of creditors out of money by running up tabs that they knew they were never going to pay.

    6. Controlled the football authorities to show them favour at every opportunity.

    7. Physically assaulted other fans simply for not being one of “the peepul”.

    8. Poured forth vile abuse by singing unlawful, hate-filled anti-Catholic songs.

    9. Used their masonic network to protect their members should they ever get caught by some Tim sympathiser police/lawyer.

    10. Controlled the media to either a) play down the wrong doings of their members or b) blame Celtic for all their woes.

    11. Used death threats and other forms of intimidation to persuade others of how ‘nice’ they are.

    12. Perpetuated a 300+ year old campaign of institutionalised bigotry against all things Catholic.

    13. Trampled over every rule whenever it has suited them.

    14. Denied all of the above.

    15. Never shown an ounce of remorse for all of the above.

    16. Would quite happily destroy all of Scottish football simply because their corrupt house has fallen in on top of them.

I just don’t understand why anyone could hate such a nice group of people.

  25. Aye Margaret, but were they “ra peepul”?
