Newco choose innuendo instead of action

904

Newco did not disappoint with last night’s statement, it was as incoherent, angry and contradictory as you would expect.  They claim:

“We are extremely concerned that member clubs were not provided with enough information, or time, to allow them to make fully informed decisions”.

They were allowed 28 days to ask for as much information as they wanted before voting!  Newco and most others were able to respond within two days – by choice.

“We are aware several club directors claimed they were being bullied”.

Several people we are not naming were bullied by someone we are not naming.  This is like the evidence of wrongdoing they say they have but would rather not show anyone.  To quote their founding manager, “Who are these people?”

They want to sound hard but have chosen to shut up instead of revealing anything – nice one.

“Addressing the [financial hardship of many of our clubs]was one of our primary objectives and the resolution we presented could and should have been progressed”.

“The SPFL chose to obstruct our resolution”.

“The fact that this solution was not afforded sufficient consideration defies belief”.

An independent QC was employed to examine their resolution and found it was not competent and could not be put to members.  They claim to want independent oversight but completely ignore independent oversight has happened.

“There is precedent within Scottish football that a league must not be compromised by changing the rules during the course of the competition.”

Again, a claim shrouded in innuendo, this time an unexplained precedent.  If I was a betting man, I would say they forgot the league schedule was extended in 2008 to accommodate Oldco (I regularly hear of this amnesia), and are referring to the fact that it was not extended as long as they wanted.

“The anger of our fans is understood and shared by our Board, who continue to examine all legal options available.”  Newco do so well in court, the SPFL board must be terrified.

The statement confirms they have a problem accepting rules.  An independent QC explained to Newco MD Stewart Robertson and the rest of the SPFL board why Newco’s resolution could not be pursued.  Robertson was asked if there was anything more he wanted to ask and if he felt the matter had been given sufficient consideration by the SPFL board.

It was not the SPFL board, the chief exec, a retained solicitor or any other malign foe who stopped their resolution, it was an independent QC.  These are the rules, they were independently enforced, accept them.

Remember this SPFL vote did not end the Premiership season, all it did was ensure the season will not be voided, all other options remain on the table.  It’s not much of a hill to stand and fight on in these difficult times.

  1. Former Celtic and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Pat Bonner picks the best XI he has played with and, after a bit of persuasion from his fellow Sportsound pundits on BBC Radio Scotland, put himself between the sticks.

“I want to pick a team that could maybe compete in the modern game,” Bonner told BBC Scotland.

So who else did Bonner pick in his dream XI?

Danny McGrain: I was playing in the Celtic reserves and Danny was there because he was coming back from injury. He was a huge influence. He was brilliant from a motivation point of view, but he was also strict – he told you what he thought. But just to be alongside Danny and play with him, and what a player.

Denis Irwin: Denis was a cultured full-back. He was in that Manchester United side that won the Champions League. He was a brilliant player.

Roy Aitken: Mick McCarthy could handle himself. He was a great organiser, and I could have picked him, but Roy Aitken had great strength, pace, he was unbelievably fit and strong. In the modern game you’d pick him because he would be able to get on the ball and build from the back.

Paul McGrath: Paul was an incredible player, world class. If I had to pick out the world class players I played with, Paul would be number one.

Paul McStay: He had this unbelievable ability to take the ball down in any situation. A brilliant player.

Roy Keane: Roy was a difficult guy to get to know. He had an unbelievable ability to make difficult things look simple. His most memorable game for Ireland was against Netherlands in the build-up to the 2002 World Cup. It was an incredible performance.

Liam Brady: He was magnificent, a world class player. I played against him when he was in that great Juventus team in the early 80s. He was very quiet, but a great guy and good fun.

Davie Provan: He had some bit of class. In the modern game he would be an out and out winger but he could do more than that. He could get on the ball and do things.

Frank McAvennie: What a player. Frank had it all. He could head the ball, he could run, he could score goals, he could be cheeky, he could defend, he could close people down.

Tommy Burns: Left foot, cultured, but he drove manager Billy McNeil mad because he would run all over the place and Billy would tell him to stay on the left, but when Tommy was a manager he would preach the same thing to his players.

The criteria was players whom you have played with ( same team).

To be fair he wanted to put Stay Given in goals, team mate from his time at Celtic. The panel argued that as a goalkeeper you can’t have played with another goalkeeper in a match….so it had to be Packy.

Sorry indeed to hear about the contempt. Any attempt at being contenders should include decent catering.

My sprogs and I did the hospitality deal on the 29 th . Nothing spectacular , but no complaints. Price was a bit steep . Had to do it for the tickets . :-)

  13. Sitting here bored out of my tree, run out of books and the local library is closed until September 1 at the earliest. However, just found out that a couple of the sports channels are showing classic FA Cup finals.

Yesterday was Arsenal and Hull, watching it I was wondering how at the time I didnae support the underdogs, especially since I have been led tae believe Steve Bruce has an Irish DNA, that is until I saw who the Tigers goalie was. What a horrible looking fckr he is, it then dawned on me that if he’s that great a goalie how did he only play for Beskitas and Hull in between stints at Hades, must b some amount of baggage he carries.

This morning it was Chelski and Liverpool, now at the time the better of two evils was the scousers, that is until I saw slippy on the park and a dour face Kenny on the sidelines.

I used tae worship the ground that fckr walked on but now he’s showing his true colours, a short memory as it was us that made him the multi millionaire he obviously is.

I have followed Dalglish’s career and life since he was a bhoy.

I get the impression, by my observations over this period, that, he aint bright enough to suddenly throw his opinion on this subject into the ring.

He has been put up to it.

I’d love to ask him if he really knows what this is all about.
