Newco choose innuendo instead of action

904

Newco did not disappoint with last night’s statement, it was as incoherent, angry and contradictory as you would expect.  They claim:

“We are extremely concerned that member clubs were not provided with enough information, or time, to allow them to make fully informed decisions”.

They were allowed 28 days to ask for as much information as they wanted before voting!  Newco and most others were able to respond within two days – by choice.

“We are aware several club directors claimed they were being bullied”.

Several people we are not naming were bullied by someone we are not naming.  This is like the evidence of wrongdoing they say they have but would rather not show anyone.  To quote their founding manager, “Who are these people?”

They want to sound hard but have chosen to shut up instead of revealing anything – nice one.

“Addressing the [financial hardship of many of our clubs]was one of our primary objectives and the resolution we presented could and should have been progressed”.

“The SPFL chose to obstruct our resolution”.

“The fact that this solution was not afforded sufficient consideration defies belief”.

An independent QC was employed to examine their resolution and found it was not competent and could not be put to members.  They claim to want independent oversight but completely ignore independent oversight has happened.

“There is precedent within Scottish football that a league must not be compromised by changing the rules during the course of the competition.”

Again, a claim shrouded in innuendo, this time an unexplained precedent.  If I was a betting man, I would say they forgot the league schedule was extended in 2008 to accommodate Oldco (I regularly hear of this amnesia), and are referring to the fact that it was not extended as long as they wanted.

“The anger of our fans is understood and shared by our Board, who continue to examine all legal options available.”  Newco do so well in court, the SPFL board must be terrified.

The statement confirms they have a problem accepting rules.  An independent QC explained to Newco MD Stewart Robertson and the rest of the SPFL board why Newco’s resolution could not be pursued.  Robertson was asked if there was anything more he wanted to ask and if he felt the matter had been given sufficient consideration by the SPFL board.

It was not the SPFL board, the chief exec, a retained solicitor or any other malign foe who stopped their resolution, it was an independent QC.  These are the rules, they were independently enforced, accept them.

Remember this SPFL vote did not end the Premiership season, all it did was ensure the season will not be voided, all other options remain on the table.  It’s not much of a hill to stand and fight on in these difficult times.

Think Michael Sheen might have some kind of football background. Brilliant depiction of the great boss.

I’ve often thought that our own story would make a fantastic movie, though you couldn’t cover one hundred years plus in one film, so Celtic (Part One) 1887-1939). Need a good screenplay but no shortage of characters to play.

  3. remember also, many of these celebs were forced to flee the country because of the terrible tax regime.

I often heard that there was a feeling among our own stars, the good ones, that the early celtic story would become a movie, someone has a script somewhere.

I think Michael Sheen was offered trials by Arsenal, but his dad refused, also involved in the Homeless World Cup, a top actor, and a guy with a social conscience.

For some reason I thought it might have been Brian Clough, and I was at the game back in the early summer of 1973. Terrific game, great tribute to Big Jack, and to Don Revie’s great Leeds team.

And so, it was the Don.

Glad to see that you have got big Gerry in the robes, and not in the hoops.

He can play a bit but I remember him blazing about twenty yards wide after being set up by no less that our Henrik. Think that one was organised by Stan Petrov…

I read last week that Francis got into a bit of trouble, after accepting a whisky from one of the Scottish priests, to which he commented “The real holy water…”. Think that has been edited out, which is a pity.

I inherited a whole load of really fascinating photos and letters from a relative in my family who had been a student priest in Rome. The letters were to his parents, my great grandparents and they were so beautifully written. They also include the letters informing us of his untimely death in his early 20s. I contacted the Catholic church after the death of my parents and offered them all the stuff which they were delighted to accept. Came across fascinating press footage about another relative who was a canon and have photos from his funeral in Coatbridge which had multiple thousand of people in attendance. So sad I can’t get more detail on any of it.

    Thanks !

I took copies of everything and I think the church were happy to put the letters in their museum. Another puzzle we have is that along with all the photos and letters is an actual key to the city of Buffalo and I’ve no idea where that fits in with it all. My family name is Clyne. Please do not call me Patsy or Calvin!

  26. It’s now become apparent that people within the UK Government are looking for a scape goat for the appauling way they have handled the Covid-19 crisis.

It looks like our absent PM is the chosen one. However was he alone in his dogmatic policy and the herd immunity policy. One things for sure in a long speech on Brexit the PM made on 03-Feb-2020, he mentioned the Corona virus and the opportunity it may afford the UK, an advantage that a go it aline policy will give us Economically… read it and weep…

    Boris Johnson – 03022020

And in that context, we are starting to hear some bizarre autarkic rhetoric, when barriers are going up, and when there is a risk that new diseases such as coronavirus will trigger a panic and a desire for market segregation that go beyond what is medically rational to the point of doing real and unnecessary economic damage, then at that moment humanity needs some government somewhere that is willing at least to make the case powerfully for freedom of exchange, some country ready to take off its Clark Kent spectacles and leap into the phone booth and emerge with its cloak flowing as the supercharged champion, of the right of the populations of the earth to buy and sell freely among each other.

And here in Greenwich in the first week of February 2020, I can tell you in all humility that the UK is ready for that role.”
