No one wanted Celtic from Pot 4

1078

Let’s be honest with each other, there’s a bit of a leap between our European performances in recent seasons and the standards of Champions League football. My expectations for this season’s tournament hasn’t seen me check out accommodation options in Cardiff in May.

With that in mind, if we’re going to fall short, let’s do it against genuine quality opposition, some of the best players and tactically organised teams in the business. Barcelona, Manchester City (think Pep, but with more money) and Borussia Monchengladbach will bring this to Glasgow over the next few months.

Over our 15 year Champions League lifespan, Celtic surprise on the upside more often against better teams than against relative minnows. The biggest disappointments came in Scandinavia, not Iberia.

When the group stage finishes in December, we will faced enormous challenges. Players will have stretched themselves to lengths they didn’t know existed. What we know for sure, is that none of the other three teams in our group will have wanted Celtic from Pot 4. This is a hard draw for everyone.

Huge game tomorrow. Anything less than 100% and we’ll drop points. Enjoy it.

  1. Oh dear.

Couple of points just for balance.

The Trust have never, ever claimed to speak for, or represent, anyone other than the membership of the Trust.

I’ve never heard politics being discussed at a Trust meeting. Ever. We discuss Celtic.

The Trust played no part in the flag display at the recent European game and were not involved in the fundraising which has subsequently taken place. However, we support the efforts of the GB fully on this issue.

Yes Tony we have met. My recollection is, not surprisingly, very different from your’s.

Everybody going enjoy your day BR’s 1st home league game, feels like he’s been here for years, hope he stays for many more real years

Matt Stewart of this parish has posted a photo on Celtic Underground twitter of the queue outside our ticket office at 9.20 this morning.

Looked like a few hundred possibly in it.

The ticket package for our european games went on sale this morning.

It would be good if some in the quue were buying the last remaining tickets for today’s game.

  4. Celtic in Parkhead for a Saturday 3;00pm kick off against our biggest rival, doesn’t really get any better.

With the backdrop of CL football safely in the background and packages the buzzword , we’ll face three fantastic sides and the prospect of these Euro Nights are in Celtic’s right.

Aberdeen are a good side and capable of causing problems, though that Tuesday game should be forgotten by the time we cross the white line.

Expect us to make one or two changes with Mikel Lustig reverting to right back and Erik Sviatchenko slotting in at centre back, and potential change in Patrick Roberts wide right.

I’d prefer Tom Rogic in the spare middle field jersey to give us

The late Pope John Paul II was frequently criticised for the severity with which he dealt with the liberation movement.

His main object was to stop the highly politicised form of liberation theology prevalent in the 1980s, which could be seen as a fusion of Christianity and Marxism.

TD67 never seen Hamilton get on any high horse on here. he recently voiced his opinion on why he is part of the CelticTrust. You were doing alright yer self with your own opinion until you started to take the player. Keep it civil mate, the blog is great when it is about opinions. What is your opinion on the problem of the homeless in Glasgow, and I don’t mean how many more pubs will close.

My opinion is AGAIN my opinion, I don’t speak for anyone else, and my point is neither should the CT, and the play the ball not the man, has the CT paw marks all over it I’v heard it just another PC out.

My thoughts on the homeless? Are what they are, and I don’t need any slaps on the back or publicity on it, my charities are what I can afford or help, I do what I can for as many as I can afford and I’m being polite in saying they are none of your business HH.

Im always amazed at the vendetta against Celtic fans on CQN.

All made up bs, with no proof whatsoever….fantasy.

If anybody wants to accuse Celtic fans of anything(TD67)…..Lets see the evidence.

Accusations without any foundation….in other words, Lies.

  9. Had a wee look in at the killie game last night . Only problem I can see coming from them is the hammer throwers in their side , they have guys there who would cause damage to our young bhoys . You may not agree but I feel that when a game gets a bit rough ,rogic and McGregor vanish . Add in the MIBS allowing it to happen ,and it could be a wee leveller . Still time in this window to address that problem , as our midfield in IMHO needs beefed up .

  10. It’s been sooooooooo long since I have looked forward to a routine league game.

Might even toast BR in the new pub named after him. Even the big yellow thingie in the sky is playing.

Hail, Hail . To the journey.

One booking for every 18 fouls before yesterday’s game for the newco.

A penalty denied for killie and a 100 minute game .

    —–

I’m sure it will even up through the season, Killie will at some point get a very soft penalty… I wonder who they will be playing that day…

  12. Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,

    Celtic, Celtic on to victory,

They’re the finest team in Scotland, I’m sure you will agree,

We’ll never give up till we’ve won the cup and the Scottish football league

They come from bonnie Scotland, they come from county Cork,

They come from dear old Donegal and even from New York,

From every street in Glasgow they proudly make their way,

To a place called dear old Paradise and this is what they say.

Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,

    Celtic, Celtic on to victory,

They’re the finest team in Scotland, I’m sure you will agree,

We’ll never give up till we’ve won the cup and the Scottish football league.

There’s Fallon, Young and Gemmell who proudly wear the green,

There’s Clark, McNeill and Kennedy the best there;s ever been,

Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes,

And sixty thousand Celtic fans who proudly shout the news.

Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,

    Celtic, Celtic on to victory,

  13. TD67 thanks for your polite response, I am fully supportive of you having an opinion and freedom to express it on here. Same as any other poster. Nothing I can do if you choose to attack other posters but you know your opinions stand up for themselves. Any attacks on others by you just tells us about you, and any attacks on you by others does the same about others. Anyway mate hopefully Celtic will be top of the league in a few hours and plenty more ztp on the phones on Monday. hail hail.

  20. Just completed my local road 5k from my house. It’s my most local but toughest route. Half mile downhill, then 2 miles gradual uphill before a nice wee finish. Delighted with my time but am gubbed now.

Time for some cooking then off to Celtic Park, still looking for a spare ticket if anyone can sell me one?
