Let’s be honest with each other, there’s a bit of a leap between our European performances in recent seasons and the standards of Champions League football. My expectations for this season’s tournament hasn’t seen me check out accommodation options in Cardiff in May.
With that in mind, if we’re going to fall short, let’s do it against genuine quality opposition, some of the best players and tactically organised teams in the business. Barcelona, Manchester City (think Pep, but with more money) and Borussia Monchengladbach will bring this to Glasgow over the next few months.
Over our 15 year Champions League lifespan, Celtic surprise on the upside more often against better teams than against relative minnows. The biggest disappointments came in Scandinavia, not Iberia.
When the group stage finishes in December, we will faced enormous challenges. Players will have stretched themselves to lengths they didn’t know existed. What we know for sure, is that none of the other three teams in our group will have wanted Celtic from Pot 4. This is a hard draw for everyone.
Huge game tomorrow. Anything less than 100% and we’ll drop points. Enjoy it.

Had the new co-efficiency rules been in place for the draw we wouldn’t have had to play the red imps and we’d be in pot 3.
Next time – great that the rest of Scottish football will no longer hamper and impede our progression.

Two SPL teams very evenly matched slug it out and a draw is about fair, yet although they’ve just come from the lower divisions SMSM assisted Sevco are desperately pretending to be something they are not, and never can be.
Filling a side with bosman players and not spending a penny, will lead to a long hard mid table season for Sevco, especially while they insist on singing from a previously banned songbook.
Ole Rainjurs couldn’t handle Celtic even when they were cheating, Sevco are onto plums, and Celtic are about to bite them on the peaches.

Personally, I think Pope Francis has a far better handle on things Latin American than John Paul 2 ever had. John Paul 2 was overly influenced by his experience of Communism in Poland. He and Benedict, indeed, were too Eurocentric. The Church, imo, through Pope Francis is properly becoming truly catholic, in the real meaning of the word. Really concerned for the poor and marginalised everywhere (and-God forgive me- not just Palestine).
