No one wanted Celtic from Pot 4

1078

Let’s be honest with each other, there’s a bit of a leap between our European performances in recent seasons and the standards of Champions League football. My expectations for this season’s tournament hasn’t seen me check out accommodation options in Cardiff in May.

With that in mind, if we’re going to fall short, let’s do it against genuine quality opposition, some of the best players and tactically organised teams in the business. Barcelona, Manchester City (think Pep, but with more money) and Borussia Monchengladbach will bring this to Glasgow over the next few months.

Over our 15 year Champions League lifespan, Celtic surprise on the upside more often against better teams than against relative minnows. The biggest disappointments came in Scandinavia, not Iberia.

When the group stage finishes in December, we will faced enormous challenges. Players will have stretched themselves to lengths they didn’t know existed. What we know for sure, is that none of the other three teams in our group will have wanted Celtic from Pot 4. This is a hard draw for everyone.

Huge game tomorrow. Anything less than 100% and we’ll drop points. Enjoy it.

if there team is so good, why are they struggling so much against everyone? I think us conceding easily against beer over the two legs gives them confidence, In their minds eye they are the same level as Beer. Truth be tole they are nowhere near that level, Just now they aren’t at the level of killie. I would be focusing all my energy on their own team never mind comparing their squad to ours.

All the best to everyone who puts their head above the parapet on Celtic’s behalf. What a country this is. I was shown a piece, written by a rat on 24thAug, which slandered CQN and I hope that’s one of those calumnies you say are being addressed. Not expecting to hear from kill ultra anytime soon.

    —————————————————————————————————————————————

Good luck to the Celts today as we go for the top spot in the league. I’ve a feeling Kieran Tierney will be irrepressible today. Severely examined during two games respectively against Astana and Happoel – the bhoy survived then prospered. No shackles today.

Celtic are happy to meet with us, that’s worth remembering. We’ll continue to hold the Plc board to account but only because we want the best for Celtic and the supporters.

You may meet with Celtic as the Celtic trust members and that should be all you are meeting them for,

You do not speak for me and I’m a Celtic supporter, your nothing but a left wing socialist splinter group Whois main object is to get Jeanette Findley on the board at Celtic park, that’s the C T, Camouflaged By charity drives to meet your agenda, nothing wrong with charity but it shouldent be used as a rung on a ladder to success, IMO.

So once again get down of your high horse and stop your pathetic holier than thou moral high ground pish, one more time……YOU DONT REPRESENT ALL CELTIC SUPPORTERS.

I know it’s been said before, but could the opening games of the 3 big teams, us, Aberdeen and hearts have been any harder? And the new teams been any easier? Looks like backfiring!

Also, as well as the importance of getting to the group stages and all that comes with it, Tuesday was important because it keeps the feel good factor around the club. I can’t remember feeling this good about Celtic for many years

  13. Macjay – that’s him. Funny how these things come round isn’t it. I’m struggling to remember the book. I suspect it was something on ‘religious experience’.

I was discouraged from divinity at Glasgow uni (I did apply which might puzzle some who are familiar with my ‘far left’ views – my arrival at the philosophy of Marx and Engels and many others came via a somewhat circuitous route) by a less enlightened influence on my life. I regret listening to him in a small way. The path I took as a result led to me meeting the love of my life and mother of my beautiful children, so it’s not a huge regret but I do sometimes wonder what might have been.

  24. I noted that an unusual amount of additional time played in each half of Killie v Sevco game.

Is there anyone who watched it able to come up with some justification for the referee’s timekeeping.

  26. SmallHill Tim,

You are absolutely correct. I simply refuse to believe the computer randomly picked that opening quartet of games for Sevco. It looks to me like it was designed to give them a soft landing to the SPF, build up a bit of confidence, and at least be at parity for their first ever top flight game against us.

After everything that has happened in the last few years, does anyone seriously think fixing a few fixtures would be beyond the wit or motivation of those at the top of our game?

Whatever, it has seriously backfired. A quick, gloating look at FF this morning shows they realise that they have played only poor teams so far and have struggled against every one of them. For the first time, there appears to be a deal of disquiet about Warbiola and his Magic Hat.

  31. The Pope disagrees

    The case against liberation theology.

The late Pope John Paul II was frequently criticised for the severity with which he dealt with the liberation movement.

His main object was to stop the highly politicised form of liberation theology prevalent in the 1980s, which could be seen as a fusion of Christianity and Marxism. He was particularly criticised for the firmness with which he closed institutions that taught Liberation Theology and with which he removed or rebuked the movement’s activists, such as Leonardo Boff and Gustavo Gutierrez.

He believed that to turn the church into a secular political institution and to see salvation solely as the achievement of social justice was to rob faith in Jesus of its power to transform EVERY LIFE. The image of Jesus as a political revolutionary was inconsistent with the Bible and the Church’s teachings.

He didn’t mean that the Church was not going to be the voice of the oppressed, was not going to champion the poor. But it should not do it by partisan politics, or by revolutionary violence. The Church’s business was bringing about the Kingdom of God, not about creating a Marxist utopia.
