No trophy left behind

Sunday’s trip to Perth is the only away game Celtic have this month. With three home points from Livingston in the bag, we have home games against both St Mirren in the Scottish Cup and  Aberdeen – who are going through one of their more interesting periods, before the Hampden League Cup Final against our new adversaries.

By winning on Wednesday St Johnstone avoided defeat for the first time in eight games; this does not make a summer. St Mirren have everything going for them, although they will not look forward to returning to Celtic Park, the venue of their worst result of the season only two weeks ago.

One of the truisms in football is ‘it’s all about the next game’. I know this and so it’s with a bit of trepidation that I suggest we might want to plan for the three fixtures before Hampden as a group. We have a new striker, defensive mid and central defender all needing game time to get up to full fitness. I’m also sure Sead Haksabanovic could do with 60 minutes playing time. Use these games to make sure we arrive at Hampden with as strong a squad as possible.  The bitter anquish at only winning five of the last six League Cups cannot be smoothed over.  There should be no trophy left behind.

Playing in such a weak league has few advantages, but being able to build an early lead and then develop players is surely one of them.

  1. I like the Academy but i wish we could stop the plundering of our promising youngsters, or do we have to do the same.

Huge queue of drivers outside the stadium volunteering to take drama queen Giakoumakis to the airport…

The Law , rightly, prevents us from being able to force a young player, to sign a pro contract with us. We will surely lament the loss of Ben Doak though I am not sure there has been rapid progress made by any of our other deserters.

We can just appreciate the willing ness of those who say despite counter offers, such as Mathew Anderson, Ben Summers and Rocco Vata

Plus we can repeat the Moussa Dembele trick and steal from English academies that are awash with talent that has no pathway for them beyond a series of loans. We might even get that lost Irish player who finds his first team route blocked by several foreign players that cost double figures of millions of pounds each.

  4. Coldest temp i ever experienced in Glasgow was -22 in ‘95. Pipes froze but also coolant in most cars

Coldest at CP was a game vs St Mirren circa 2007. Freezing rain(not snow or sleet), weird stuff. O’Dea ar LB, Riordan playing and McGinn scored a great curler equaliser. Shite game. Dried out at my sister’s gaff and back out in town later in a wet jaicket

the wifi in the jock stein upper was good before the world cup break but has been shite since

  6. If Celtic don’t have access to a reserve league in Scotland is there any reason they cannot join another countries reserve league?

  7. I think I mentioned this before but i met Man City chief Ireland scout in Dec in the pub

We agreed that the Irish system of top youth players funnelling into senior clubs was good. They get game time and then get snapped up by English teams with a bit more maturity about them

Celtic are definitely be in this system but the English lights are shinier, according to him. Big Celtic fan

He also said Lawwell Jr is still learning his trade.

He reckons we missed a gem with the Irish fella (can’t remember his name) but we do seem to be doing much better these days anyway

He also showed me interesting Neil Lennon videos. Can’t see him getting another gig. Should do pundit ry again, he was great at that

  8. I remember reading in the Herald that loads of Rangers wonderkids went south

I remember in the mid-90s when I used to take the Celtic View print edition, there was a ‘Supporters Notes’ column. One week there was a message as follows — Any bars in or near Ulan Bator showing the game this weekend?

  10. Coneybhoy- coldest was in Bremen, short sleeved Cellic tap oan,…the one and only time ive worn a jersey at a game, the good people in the Main Stand, kept us going,by sharing their hipflasks of mulled wine,Germany is great for a game.

I showed that Ulan Bator Celtic View clipping to Tom Shields and he duly published it in his Glasgow Herald “Diary” column.

I remember we played Barcelona in March, it was 60° during the day but baltic at night especially up in that top tier in their stadium. I saw one lass who attended with only a celtic top, shorts and socks.

She was blue first stage of hyperthermia 🥶I would say, anyway some of us had double garments on and handed it to her. Wonder if she still has my jumper 🤔

    Scullybhoy,

Apart from letting Stay Given go

    Lou Macari signed Carl Muggleton.

I remember when he signed , one of my mates said

” he doesn’t sound like he’ll be any good” 😀

    Eh?

“Carl Muggleton, he sounds like he plays for Melchester Rovers with Roy Race and Alf Tupper”

    I’ve just checked on Carl’s career…..

    …he has played for 19 ( NINETEEN !!!) CLUBS

I know Carl Mugglerton’s brother. He loved playing for Celtic and his record was not bad considering the state of the club at the time.

I do keep an eye out on Karamoke’s progress or lack of it – still wish him well.
